We do recommend using our page builder in the current version but this is not mandatory. Visual composer is still available and can be used.
As for VC the update is worth it but it will not have the impact you are looking for most likely but it’s worth a shot.
I strongly recommend updating the theme, php version, plugins etc. as updates are recommended for optimal performance and stability.

Maybe more options will be added in future theme updates, but I could not say for sure when this will happen.
If you would like to have additional options, that is only possible with a plugin. Try some registration plugins or membership plugins and use the one you think it’s best for your purpose.

Hello, how do I upgrade the SocialCounter plugin? My WP site doesn’t say there is an update so I thought I had the latest version but I have version 3.1 and it says here that the latest version is 4.1…
I installed xcache (php opcode).
Also I filtered internal dummy connections so they don’t reach wordpress (.htaccess)
Since these two changes, the behavior of server has been improoved dramatically.
My aim is to update PHP to version 5.6, but I read that is not possible on Centos.
Also, I am not really sure about it as our portal is live with about 20000 users / day.
I guess it will happen one day, after the next WP update …
Since v4.12 is the last version of Visual composer before version 5.0, does it worth to update? Or I will have to update theme and PHP version too ?

Apart that, if you update theme, then you have to use page builder instead of VC.
So what’s the point of updating VC at the first place?

Hi, problem was you td-composer. It was interfering with visual composer. Would you maybe be so kind and check overall website lodaing speed? It is a bit slower after update to all latest versions of wordpress and your latest theme. Regards
Rogger as an avid fan of both Newsmag and Newspaper over the last 3-4 years I can assure you plenty of new features and hard work does go into Newsmag too – as an example the platform update from v2 to v3 was massive. You need to understand that for TagDiv to do massive updates, there’s a huge amount of testing that needs to be done.
Incidentally I prefer Newsmag- although my newspaper site is a little out of date and I haven’t had the time to slowly manually bring it up to the latest version… Too many updates! Heh

When you update the theme this customization will be lost. You will have to make it again, or make a backup to the file. This file is not supported to be modified through the child theme at the moment, unfortunately.

The latest version of VC which is tested and recommended is 5.1.1 but it has not been tested in newspaper 7. You can however update the theme to the latest version and update VC along with it, disable tagdiv composer and change the php version.

The main reasons for a high cpu usage has always been Visual composer. That is why in our current theme version we launched our own page builder/front-end editor which is much lighter on the cpu. Lots of complex elements in visual composer quickly increase the cpu usage. Try to update your theme to the latest version but keep in mind you will have to re-create your pages using the new page builder as keeping both plugins active at the same time will not work properly, neither will editing a page with the new page builder which was previously created with visual composer.
Also you after you update you can increse the php version to 7.1 and check the proper memory allocation: https://forum.tagdiv.com/system-status-parameters-guide/

There could be a plugin that is interfering with this function. Try as a test to deactivate all your plugins except the ones that are provided in the theme package, and clear any caching installed.
Then set a featured video for a post, and see if the image is created properly.

Is there any specific reccomendation / tip to follow when launching the update from Newspaper 7 to 8 ?
I am using 7.8.1 right now.
Are the theme panel settings correctly migrated in their entirety? Is there anything do I have to setup again once the theme is upgraded?
Do I have to regen thumbnails?
Is Newspaper 8 not compatibile with wide known plugins such as Really Simple SSL ? Siteground cache? CF7 ? Memberpress ? WordPress Download Manager Pro? Yoast SEO?

In the current version we have introduced our own page builder which will not work along side visual composer. Please do not use both page builders at the same time. Please choose one or the other. If you choose the tagdiv composer (recommended choice) you will have to re-create your pages in the tagdiv composer. that means creating a new page and adding new elements to it, not editing your old pages.

If you want to use visual composer, keep in mind we do not plan to add any new elements to it. Any future updates and development will be based on the tagdiv composer. Visual composer will still get updates but it will not receive any new element.

I’am not sure, it seems since I’ve updated my WordPress to newest version (or because of any other reason) my visual composer doesn’t work any more. I mean backend editor? So I cannot edit pages. It looks like it is trying to load up content but without result.I can still operate classic mode. Plugins looks updated. Any suggestions, please? best JP

It seems the thumbnail for block 13 is misleading. As it shows 4 elements on 2 columns but block 13 never showed content on 2 columns. Here is how it will show up: https://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/block-13/

How did you update visual composer. Please only use a version released by us, and not from the plugin author. We need to test each version and make the proper adjustments first. Also, please note that in the current version we introduces our own page builder in the package and the plugin installs itself. if you want to use our page builder, please disable visual composer if not please disable the tagdiv composer. I updated both NP and VC to the latest version. But now my homepage margins are totally off. The VC rows have totally different left and right margins than text or divs not in rows (and this never happened before). Also, I have a separator line on the homepage – the code is [vc_separator color="custom" style="dashed" border_width="4" accent_color="#5aa1e3"] – but it appears light gray and not blue also with a lot of additional spacing. 2 updates ago the line broke, but was fixed in the prior to V8 update. Also, Block Header #1 doesn’t show on this update. So basically a lot of screwy things with this update. Thanks.
