Update 2:
I have narrowed my issue down to the theme I just uploaded because it only happens with that theme… I have uploaded a fresh copy of Newspaper 6.x and now the error 500 seems to be gone. I must have made a mistake in a function added to functions.php.
So as long as 6.5.1>6.6.3 can be accomplished by a complete re-upload then I am good (please confirm :P).
Update:
I did a quick test renaming the current newspaper directory to newspaper5 and then uploading the latest version as newspaper. All looked well until I disabled the WPBakery Visual Composer plugin. Then the website showed error 500.
I was able to get the website back by renaming the original newspaper5 back to newspaper.
But I guess I am kind of stuck on 6.5.1 now!
I am actually using WordPress 4.3.1 with theme version 6.5.1.
Reason I kept with 6.5 was this line:
“[ Version 6.6.1 ]

I have had some really bad experiences with joomla+facebook api which had a requirement of self signed certificates.
Anyway Tutorial looks decent thought so I guess I will try it. But I am wondering about how to update from 6.x though.
The Envato website only has the latest archive which only contains incremental patch_6.6.2_6.6.3. Do I need to do full delete and re-upload of the theme?

Unfortunately this file will probably get changed in the future but i doubt this specific code/function will be altered so just keeping this function in a separate text file as back-up and simply replacing the function after an update should do the trick.

I do not know what you mean with the update. The theme is currently at version 6.6.3 and you still have version 4.6.3. We release updates on a regular basis. We will update our theme to be compatible with php 7 but you will need to update your theme in order to use php 7 when the time comes.

Please try to reinstall the theme via ftp and make sure you replace all the files from your old theme. This issue was fixed in the current version so it seems something went wrong with your update or you did not replace all the files. If you installed the theme correctly and replaced all the files and the problem is still there, please send an email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide wp-admin so we can take a look.

Hello, so i run this theme on Ngix, when i try to translate it haves 0 effect, it just dont translate nothing from English to any languege. There is Error pulled out of log. Help?

We are trying to add more social networks to our theme with future updates and the list includes viber. Until we can provide such an option you can maybe use a plugin to help out. Maybe something like:

The new version of visual composer is tested to work 100% with our theme. Please try to disable all your plugins except visual composer, clear cache and reset cdn if you use it. Update your version of vc and check again.
If the problem is still there after you disable all plugins, please send an email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide wp-admin so we can take a look at the issue.(if needed we can provide cia email the version of VC requested)

For more safety, we recommend you to do a backup before you start to do the upgrade. Please download the patch 6.5->6.6.2 which contain the modified files from 6.5 to 6.6.2 and then you should do the normal update from 6.6.2 to 6.6.3. The modified files from patch you have to replace to your old files.

The recommended version of PHP for our theme is version 5.4 In later versions, functions may become deprecated and create problems. Please use this version until we can confirm the functionality with later versions of PHP (in future updates).

Thanks for this wonderful theme. I would like to see the viber share for articles in the next update.
I think this would be useful. As Viber now has option to create public chats and share content, I think that I need this for site too.

Andrei, thanks so much for your response! However, I’ve updated my theme accordingly, with your VC update instructions. Also, if you look at the VC page on Code Canyon (the official sales page), many people seem to be leaving comments these past two weeks about template save issues, as well as other issues. I believe the issue is there with WP Bakery side, but any word on when it might be fixed?
