Hi,

Please check this guide – https://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress
To fix the images url (and other urls) use the following plugin – https://wordpress.org/plugins/velvet-blues-update-urls/
A plugin may also be used but i cannot recommend one because i didn’t do any tests, sorry.

Thank you!

Hi,

I’m poised to start the theme update from 4 to 6, I have already updated Visual Composer to the latest version. With regards to the social counter and Speed Booster, I assume I wait until the 6 theme is uploaded and the update script is run.

My concern is that when I update the Speed Booster plugin it will overwrite the edits I made, is this correct?

It was a while ago, and I have a terrible memory, so I’m unsure what I would need to do to retain my edits?

I’ve also got a child theme, after the update, I assume I paste my child theme edits into the new child theme files located in the /code folder and overwrite the old one on the server?

I have the following code in my current child theme:

—————-
if (!defined(‘TD_THEME_WP_BOOSTER’)) {
include TEMPLATEPATH . ‘/includes/td_wordpres_booster.php’;
}
—————-

Would this need to be added to the new child?

Kind Regards

Simon

Hi,
Thanks for reporting this, we will fix this in the next update, until that you can fix it using this CSS, add it in Theme Panel -> Custom CSS section:

.header-search-wrap .td_module_wrap .td-post-category {
z-index: 2;
position: relative;
}

.header-search-wrap .td_module_wrap .td-post-category:after {
display: none;

Hi and sorry for all the issues encountered.
The version 6 is more like a new theme, not just a regular update and require some steps to update from an old version 4.xx to latest 6.xx

Here is all the necessary steps: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/ and also on your Welcome screen you have the script that will fix your pages: http://screencast.com/t/8qWYKv9W

Please let me know if you manage the fixes.

Can you provide your site URL to take a look?

Hi @GadgetViper

If you want you can update to latest version 6.3.1. Also you need to regenerate your thumbnails, now your images are full on your homepage and need to be cropped. Use AJAX Thumbnail Rebuild plugin to solve this.

I updated the visual composer plugin but didn’t fix the problem. I tried to change the setting but didn’t work either.

They usually showed the front part of the post automatically, but now I decided to add the excerpt manually for every post. It kind of bothers me, but I can limit the length of the excerpt as I like, so it is fine with me for now.

Anyway thanks for your help!

Hi

the Post Masonry Grid is a visual composer block and we generally don’t interfere with the function of the default blocks. Please try to update your visual composer plugin with the latest that comes with our theme. That may fix the issue. If the issue still persists, get back to me and we will open a ticket to the plugin author.

I think since I installed WP Super Cache the date on the top bar of the header is not correct. This occurs on every page.

Hi,

We’re going to include the update list inside the main log file, it’s going to be something like [v4] ….
Until now we didn’t do any updates, there were no security issues.

Thank you!

Hi,

I’ve checked your site and noticed you use an old theme version (3.6) while the latest available is version 6.3 and the social counter plugin is 3.0
Not sure what why the fb counter doesn’t updates but I suggest you update the theme and use the latest version of the plugin which works fine.

To update the theme please make sure that you follow this update guide and note that because you update from a such an old theme version you will need to reconfigure it but considering that in the latest version you will have lots of new features which you would want to use this wouldn’t be an issue.

You know that is old information. I never saw that. Nor is your documentation folder worth putting in the zip folder. It should include a document with instructions on how to upgrade.

I seem to remember after an extensive search through your forum instructions on simply replacing files.

I started this update when 6 came out and now just getting back to fixing the mess it has created.

So now that it is totally Fed up how can I fix it?

I don’t to lose all the pages I entered so far.

By the way there was nothing in the theme with instructions like that image.

Thanks

Hi,

For those you have to run the import settings script, as instructed in the theme update guide: http://screencast.com/t/8zDQtPqV3https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/

Thanks

I am able to update plugins and wordpress through the back end no problems, just not the theme, through that plugin, for some reason…..

If someone could tell me what folders it needs created to update, I figure that would be a work around for now.

Hi,

If you update from Newspaper 4 then note that Newspaper 6 is practically a new theme, the code structure was modified and the old custom modifications(or custom css) have to be rewritten.

If you refer to the latest update then yes, you have to save the custom code modifications (or backup the current theme) on you local hard disk, install the latest version and reapply the code modifications. The css added in Theme Panel -> Custom CSS is not affected because it’s saved in the database and you only update the theme files.

The best practice is to backup the side before updating (usually there’s a backup option in the cpanel/host administration area). If you use a cdn or a cache plugin clear the cache (purge cdn files).

Thank you!
