Hi,
@RobertVerwaal Unfortunately you will have to do this manually from theme panel for the available options and use custom css for the rest that don’t have an option. You can also do this by editing the style.css file and replace all font families with your desired font.
@Branstone Only if you have made the customization/changes directly into to the theme’s files, your theme settings will not be affected when you update the theme. If you do have modification to the code you should make a copy of the files changed by you, updated the theme and make those changes again if the files where changed.
Thanks
Hi,
Seems like there is an plugin for this: https://wordpress.org/plugins/imagemagick-engine/ You should use it with caution though as it seems it hasn’t been updated in the last 2 years. I haven’t tested it so I can’t guarantee it will work, you should try though and share your result. Please also consider a backup before you use it.
You can also try to search a solution fr this online.
Thanks
Glad you managed to do it, we will also consider it for future updates!
Thanks for the message!
Hi,
Have you tried to make a backup of your current theme installation and re-upload the theme files via FTP like this: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme/
The error indicates that this file is missing so access your FTP account and make sure that you have this file there: http://screencast.com/t/dKlgFlHdmjH
Also replied here: https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/search-goes-to-blank-page/#post-28589
Hope this helps!
Thanks
Hi again,
So you mean to tell me that every Theme update changes the whole theme settings???
How come it can’t keep the old settings there? I don’t even remember all the changes I did to the theme, there’s a lot!
Is there any “easy” way to save the settings and then after update restore it?
Thanks!
Hi,
Thanks @Steven! I have tested the latest theme version and haven’t had any issues of this type.
@Jorge/@SALZBURG12 Please make sure you empty all cache/purge files then deactivate all plugins leaving just Visual Composer active then check again and also clear your browser cache (use Ctrl+Shift+R to re-download the page ignoring cache content) if this dose not helps please update the theme copying the theme’s files manually via FTP using this guide: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme/ because the envato toolkit seems to case some issue when used for update and could not update the it right.
@Mark Clifford The css flash usually happens when using the speed booster plugin. Just checked your site and seems that it doesn’t happen anymore have you managed to solve it? Please let me know!
The 4.5d version of the theme from theme panel was added by mistake it should state 4.6 so it’s not an issue.
@Jalo I have tested this again using winmerge and that file hasn’t been changed in the latest theme versions, maybe you had an older theme version as the last time this file was changed is 4.1
@skykid Sorry for the inconvenience. More feature will be added, unfortunately I can’t give you any exact details about this but I can let you know that will happen in next updates.
Thanks
Hi,
@mnguyen87 Glad you have managed to get it done. Please note that when you update your theme using the envato toolkit you will not lose your settings and customizations only if you have made modifications to theme files, in that case you need to remake your changes as the files will get overwritten and the changes will be lost.
On the other hand we do not recommend the update through the envato plugin as some issues where reported recently and better would be to do it manually via FTP.
Regarding the “4.5d version” of the latest theme please note that it’s not an issue we have added that by mistake.
@Branstone We do not recommend the plugin as I stated above because seems that can cause other issues. Please make sure you update like this: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme/ and after you update make sure you empty all cache and purge files.
Thanks
Ok, everything is default, the sidebar is default (”Newspaper Default”) and also the position of it is default everywhere (on the right, as in the demo, and ”default” for every category in the theme’s settings, under the ”CUSTOM SIDEBAR + POSITION” setting everything is default).
Thanks for the solution, but a little sad it doesn’t work, with everything on default and also with the ”My menu” name for it. Also updated the theme, and redone all the settings above, and it still doesn’t work.
Or maybe I haven’t entered correctly the .css values? It was supposed to enter it in the theme settings under Theme Panel / Misc / Custom css / Your custom css, right?
Thanks again 🙂
Simply amazing, Lucian! It works like a charm.
I think is a good SEO functionality.
Maybe you could consider to add it in the next update of the theme: if the user add manually an ALT tag, it has priority. But if the user forgets to add it, the theme could add automatically the name of the image file to the ALT tag. It’s better than nothing, isn’t it?
Once again, thank you for your incredible support.
Mònica.
Hi,
Thanks for you suggestion. I will add this on our todo list and we will consider it for future updates.
Thanks for the message!

Hi,
You can download the updated theme from themeforest and check the change-log to see what changes have been made: http://screencast.com/t/aJ1JMkcqg
You can also find the changes on theme forest: http://screencast.com/t/ff68DUZ5QcTt
http://themeforest.net/item/newspaper/5489609
When update it you won’t loose your settings or functionality only if you have modified files and you don’t need to update it only if you want too.
You can also make a back-up of your current theme installation so that you can revert back to it if something goes wrong then use this guide and update it: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme/
It’s not a new theme it is just an update of it which we have done to fix some reported issues. You can also use the patch if you are updating from version 4.5.
Thanks
Hi,
Please make sure you do it like I suggested because we had some reports that the plugin isn’t working properly when using the toolkit to update it as errors may occur and files may be skipped so please make sure you do it manually like this: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme/ and always make sure you make a back-up of your current theme installation so you can revert back to it in case something goes wrong.
Thanks
Hi guys,
I just tried to update the theme through Filezilla and it messed up the whole site.
All the colors disappeared, some widgets were moved down, etc.
I put back the old theme files and it’s fine now.
What’s the issue? Would it be safer to update via the Envato plugin?
Thanks!
Hi Christoper,
Thanks for the quick reply!
Well I misplaced my message, I was referring to the Newspaper update, not the new Newsmag theme…
Will put it up on the right place now…:-)
Thanks!
Well, this is a NEW theme, on version 1.0 … it is not an update to Newspaper. So you need to treat as changing to different theme, unless I totally misunderstood what you were saying there 🙂
So,
1) switch to default WP theme
2) turn off all plugins; delete ALL plugins used for Newspaper theme
and delete any prior issue of Visual Composer – completely
3) clear cache, update CDN if needed
4) install theme
5) install plugins
6) activate new visual composer with all other plugins OFF
7) activate theme from wordpress > appearance
So, you need to install the theme then activate the new theme following the theme docs.

Well… thanks… but I really want something simpler than that and don’t want to have to go through gyrations every time we update… but I appreciate your sharing. For the moment, I just want to get true italics and maybe some weights… it ought not to be that difficult… hoping anyway.
Thanks for the reply.
1.- I disabled the plugin Speed Buster and reload the page now the problem is solved. It is not solved when I calibrate the speed of PageSpeed page. I attached screenshots:

Anyway, how much time estimate to fix it with update? I have thought about publishing the web on Monday.
2.- Another question: I’m testing the theme in http://www.oncanarias.es but it will be hosted on another site (it is a web of daily information and can not test). Is there a problem with the license? I read that you can only use a domain. How could notice in which domain I will use real way?
3.- And the last question, on the other server we have activated the ‘op cache’ in a Ngix server, I read that could have problems with the theme. What kind of problems?
Thank you,
Miguel
Normally we convert ALL fonts to Open Sans (with Newspaper, anyway); so typically we would open the style.css, search/replace all fonts to what we want, then edit the functions.php … but now would edit the td_fonts.php to REMOVE all the google fonts not being used; this ensures they don’t “print” in the head/foot of the posts online.
I have not yet done this for the fonts.
For our sites we have to do the following each update
1) update the hook for the post views to “views” from existing field
2) edit the search file to remove breadcrumbs (I don’t need those on indexes for each story)
3) edit functions.php to put various elements for us at bottom, such as changing default compression for images/thumbs, adding note to poke hackers trying the lost password function, turn off XMLRPC elements in header, remove Yoast from menu bar in admin, hide header elements like versions, hide use of visual composer, etc. — many common “optimizations” for WordPress sites.
4) edit header to remove the section for video thumbnails and this stupid thing
<link rel="pingback" href="<?php bloginfo( 'pingback_url' ); ?>" />
5) optimize the fonts, by doing the aforementioned house cleaning on style css file, and removing the extra google font calls.
Your mileage may vary 🙂
Alright, I’ll wait for them and thanks for chiming in. I did get the email with your original edit stating you don’t use the child theme but edit the theme files directly. When updates come through you do what?
Jeff
nevermind I updated via ftp and everything is ok, but my version says 4.5d like the other thread. I will continue to check the other thread for a fix.
how do i delete this post? lol.
Hello,
This is my first theme that I have purchased and I love it. I have it fully customized to my liking. I was wondering If i updated to the newest version, does it overwrite all my settings I currently have setup. I’ve read up on installing the wordpress toolkit to update the theme but I am worried I have to edit the theme from scratch again.
I have backed everything up already but I thought I would ask just for future reference
I used the patch you provided for 4.0.2 to 4.5 and it gave me errors so I reinstalled the full theme. It looks like it updated but im unable to access /wp-admin. When trying to go there, I receive:
Warning: require_once(wp_booster/td_review.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/klsbo/public_html/wp-admin/includes/td_wordpres_booster.php on line 71
Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required 'wp_booster/td_review.php' (include_path='.:/usr/lib/php:/usr/local/lib/php') in /home/klsbo/public_html/wp-admin/includes/td_wordpres_booster.php on line 71
I provided you with all the information via email (FTP and wp-admin) and got the response to rename the wp-content/plugins, try again and rename it back and no luck. Also to purge Cloudflare, but my site is not on Clouflare.
Going on the 4th day today with no admin and it’s really critical. Please help.
Thanks.
Hi,
As AdSense now recommend to all editors to replace 320×50 banners by 320×100 for mobile users (they sent a message to invite editors to do it), I just suggest you, for next updates to consider this information.
In fact, I suggest to change “height:50px” by “height:100px” in this code:
if ( td_screen_width < 768 ) {
/* Phones */
document.write('<ins class="adsbygoogle" style="display:inline-block;width:320px;height:50px" data-ad-client="XXXX" data-ad-slot="XXXX"></ins>');
(adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});
}
Just for your information, it would be nice to have it in the next update of your Newspaper theme.
