This option is not possible using Newspaper Theme. This is achievable but it requires custom coding which is not covered by the support due to our support policy: https://forum.tagdiv.com/newspaper-theme-support/ You will need to look for the file and change it.

I am not sure what is the relation between Newspaper Theme and Page speed in the matter of rendering the featured image. Also The answer of page speed does not mention anything about tagDiv plugins or theme.
