I did it, added the closing tag and a double quote to all 4 places (in both files in my child theme; the files have rights 644), tested in Chrome and Firefox incognito mode – no change…
I realized that I had the files in folder newspaper-child/parts/ and moved them to the folder newspaper-child/parts/header/
What changed – the logo on all shop pages finally got a new url assigned, but it leads to 404 page.
The url looks like this http://www.domain.com///
Hello daviannguyen,
It seems your images are stuck in opacity 0. This usually happens on a js error caused by plugins or customization or other external optimization tools.
Please disable all plugins except visual composer, clear cache and reset CDN files if you use it. Please also check any custom code you might have added to the theme panel or the theme files. If you use a child theme, please switch to the main theme to make sure it does not affect the proper functioning of the theme.
Thank you!
Hello Allen,
Please keep in mind that what you want to do is a BIG update and the theme will be broken because it is totally another theme, sorry!
In order to achieve the best results after you will install the latest update you have to follow some rigorous steps like this -> you have to delete both of your themes, child theme, and main theme. All your customizations from your Newspaper 4 theme will do not work because all the files from this were changed in Newspaper 8.1 and as the main theme and also you lose all changes.
The Newspaper 8.1 is a whole new theme so an update from 4 to 8.1 may cause the same issues as switching to another theme (but we did try to maintain compatibility where ever possible).
Always make a full backup of your current installation – https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups and then do a clean update, meaning that we recommend that you delete the old version of the theme before uploading the new one – https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/ update also the plugins that come bundled with the theme files from the /plugins folder. In the “how to update” guide is specified that you will have to run the script that will import from database your settings.
The shortcodes have been changed so old ones will not work anymore. Please note that old files customization or custom CSS will not work with the new version and you will have to adjust or re-add them. Bottom line is that newspaper 8.1 is a whole new theme built from scratch.
Unfortunately, you will have to clear your agenda and spare a bit of time to adjust all your settings to the new version of the theme.
Hope this helps and let us know how it goes!
Thank you for the message!
Hi Bogdan and Simion,
I followed the steps exactly as described by Simion, but for some reason now nothing changes.
Here are both files:
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/6ok6oj1sh5s7vur/AAAS4ZSdT9TOW-EvEqD65Bysa?dl=0
Unfortunately the url of the logo doesn’t change.
I tried to use them in the child and in the main theme – no result.
I would appreciate you if you take a minute and have a look, maybe I have a typo somewhere…
I really enormously appreciate your constant support with solving all our issues so far, thank you!
Hi,
@tujipe145 Please provide more details about the issue you are having with the contact form plugin, and maybe some useful screenshots so we can see it. The error displayed in the cases from above, was related to the child theme specifically.
Thanks
Also make sure you update your child theme as well.
Thanks.
Hello,
This could be a side effect of using both page builders. Please do not use both the visual composer and the tagdiv composer plugin.
If this is not the case, please also try to
This could be a plugin conflict so please disable all plugins except the page builder, clear cache and reset cdn files if you use it. Please also check any custom code you might have added to the theme panel or the theme files. If you use a child theme, please switch to the main theme to make sure it does not affect the proper functionality of the theme.
Thank you!

Hello,
There seems to be some css blocking the one from the theme on your end.
Please disable all plugins except the page builder, clear cache and reset cdn files if you use it. Please also check any custom code you might have added to the theme panel or the theme files. If the issue is still there, please contact us on our email address at contact@tagdiv.com and provide a link to your site and wp-admin (login information and admin rights) so we can login and investigate. Please also include a link to this conversation.
Thank you!
My web-hosting support was able to help me resolve the WP login problem, so I again have access to the WP dashboard. They also told me that my site was using a “child” of the Newspaper 4 theme (I don’t know what that means) before the upgrade to Newspaper 8 and that might be why the home page is not loading correctly and why our logo does not appear in headers. Is that an issue for which I may receive support from you guys?
Also, now when I try to activate the Newspaper 8 theme, I get this message:
wp booster error:
Please update your [tagDiv social counter] Plugin!
Fatal error: Call to undefined function mb_detect_encoding() in /home/forkum/public_html/wp-includes/functions.php on line 3086

No, turns out I just hadn’t updated my child theme in a while.

Hello,
Since this represents customization we will not be able to help you with the exact code you need to implement to make the modification correct. Sorry but we do not have a customization department. Simion provided the exact files you need to edit and mentioned how to do it.
Try to first make a back-up of those files and try to edit them in the main theme not in the child theme. Maybe your child theme is jot set up properly. Make sure you clear all caching after you modify the files.
If you do not know the correct syntax to modify the code we recommend hiring a freelancer from sites like studio.envato.com.
Thank you!
Hi – I’ve deleted & reinstalled woocommerce – rebuilt pages FTP’d up the theme again – switch off the child theme etc. etc. So – I applied a different theme and it shows the cart as ‘normal’ – which to my mind would point the problem to be within Newspaper itself?
Hello,
Please do not use an old child theme with the new version of the theme
Please read this guide to learn about the child theme functionality: https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/setting-up-child-theme/
Keeping both the tagdiv composer and visual composer plugins active at the same time will cause layout problems especially with the single image elements
Please only use one or the other, not both at the same time
Thank you!
Hi,
Make the modification in all 4 cases in both files as instructed and it should work. This is a product page and I have made the mentioned modifications in the child theme as well
– https://www.screencast.com/t/HjQlbqSdBy
The logo redirects to the shop page. Clear all caching after making the modifications.
Thanks
Hi,
Maybe the theme did not update properly. Please try and reinstall the theme by FTP
– https://forum.tagdiv.com/install-via-ftp/
Then deactivate all plugins except theme plugins. If a child theme is used, switch to the main theme. Do not add any custom code to the theme files, or modify it in any way. Then check if the post settings work properly.
If the problem is still there please send us an email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide admin login information so we can take a look.
Also paste a link to this topic in your email.
Thanks
I was receiving that error too when using the “Text with Title” box. I fixed my issue by copying “editor-style.css” to the child theme from the parent theme.
After updating from version 7 to the latest version 8.x, our site doesn’t look right – it’s missing most of the images and thus is mostly white background. We are using a Newspaper child theme – should all the code in the child theme be compatible with the new version of Newspaper?
I had saved the old Newspaper folder before upgrading, so I deleted the new folder and put the old one back (but keeping all of the updated plugins intact), and now all seems to be back to normal. But I’d still like to upgrade to the latest version.
Any suggestions?
Also, are there any issues in keeping both Visual Composer and TD Composer activated?
Thanks!
First some information that you need. I am using Newspaper 8.0 and the tagDiv Mobile Theme plugin. My website address is https://evscconnect.com.
I have a website that is a private intranet where users gain access by logging in using the wp-login.php page. Everything on the site is working great except for when users login on their phones. I am using a function in my child theme to replace the WordPress logo and styles with my own custom styles. The function works fine on desktops and tablets. However, when I view the login page on a phone, I get the default WordPress login page.
Here is the function I am using.
function my_logincustomCSSfile() {
wp_enqueue_style('login-styles', get_stylesheet_directory_uri() . '/login/login_styles.css');
}
add_action('login_enqueue_scripts', 'my_logincustomCSSfile');
Is there another piece of code that I need to add to allow my logo and custom styles for the wp-login.php page to appear on phones? Or am I missing something in the Newspaper Theme Panel?
Thanks,
Jerrad
It’s not working on my side. I have both files in my child theme. I edited both files as follows:
But nothing changes. The logo on woocommerce, cart and check out pages still points to the home page of the site, not to the shop home page (www.domain.com/магазин/)
Hi,
Make a backup to your database just to be safe. Please update the theme by FTP like this
– https://forum.tagdiv.com/install-via-ftp/
Update the included plugins as well. Please note that much has changed from that version in the theme and Visual composer. In Newspaper 8 the tagDiv composer as introduced as well.
I believe it would be best to try and recreate the pages with the new tagDiv composer if possible after the update
– https://forum.tagdiv.com/tagdiv-composer-tutorial/
Custom codes or the same modifications may not work in the new theme. The child theme too, if there is one. Deactivate all plugins except theme plugins except theme plugins to rule out any conflicts.
Check the theme system status and make modifications to the parameters mentioned in this guide if necessary
– https://forum.tagdiv.com/system-status-parameters-guide/
Thanks
Hello Berbi,
Yes, all the additional customizations which were added to your child theme will be there after theme update. Just in case, you should make a full backup to your database before them updating to be safe regarding your data.
Thanks for your understanding!
Hello,
Please check your widgets area and remove all elements under footer 1, 2 and 3: https://www.screencast.com/t/5fRvVTaPT
There is most likely a piece of code there that does not function properly.
It could also be a plugin conflict so please disable all plugins except the page builder, clear cache and reset cdn files if you use it. Please also check any custom code you might have added to the theme panel or the theme files. If you use a child theme, please switch to the main theme to make sure it does not affect the proper functionality of the theme.
Thank you!
Hi,
If you search through the forum, be careful with the bold tags inside the url. The forum will highlight your found word with a bold tag even if it’s a url. In this case you will have to copy and paste the url into your browser, not click on it directly.
The author is created here: https://www.screencast.com/t/4XBpUvkwUWhB
The file will work from the child them. Every file that can be modified through the child theme is presented here: https://forum.tagdiv.com/the-child-theme-support-tutorial/
Thank you!
