Dear tagDiv Team,
My TD Composer is getting hung up loading when I try to edit on my freshly (!) installed page. The error it’s is throwing is:

I’ve already deleted the theme (I have no child themes), uploaded it again via FTP, deleted all the tagDiv plugins, reinstalled them, deactivated in the meantime all other plugins on the site and added “ define(‘CONCATENATE_SCRIPTS’, true ); ” in the wp-config.php and I haven’t had a caching plugin on this site up to now, but the error persists for all the (even completely new) pages.
On top of that the search function and all the images on the front-pages aren’t working.
My server setup is looking fine as you can see here: https://imgur.com/a/9SO39
I would really appreciate your help here! Thanks a lot in advance,
Florian from Vienna
Upgraded Newspaper 8.6 to 8.7.1 over the weekend on my primary political news site (www.capitolhillblue.com). Put the site on Ultimatum (previous drag and drop theme) while deleted 8.6 and the plug-ins. First try to install via “add theme” kept giving timeouts and requests to retry. Finally gave up and installed via FTP on dedicated server running CentOS (8-processor, 64Core, 32GB of memory) with Apache/PhP 7.2.
Installed newer version of T/D Composed and everything appears in place and running fine. First impressions show faster page loading and accesses but some slower access to wp-admin functions. Status function shows PhP version 7.2.2, 128M post_max_size, 120 mad_execution_time, 3000 max_input_vars, 256MB WP Memory Limit and green status lights.
So far, everything appears to be working.
Then I tried upgrading my copy of Newspaper 8.6 on my local news site (www.blueridgemuse.com) running on Siteground. Upgrade of the software appeared to run OK but deleteing the old T/D Composer and upgrading showed the installation going through fine but then the white screen on any access that involved WP-Admin functions. Nothing worked. The only way to get the WP-Admin back was by deleting the T/D Composer, which restored admin operations but with no composer functions. After switching the versions of PhP from 5.6 up to 7.1 (latest offered by SiteGround) with no results I deleted version 8.7.1 and reinstalled 8.6 and the plugins for that version and everything returned to normal.
After reading some of the problems here, it appears a problem with some web hosting operations but not others. The SiteGround setup is at their “Go Geek” level with a dedicated IP and extra services. The system status for the Version 8.6 version that runs that site shows PhP Version 7.0.27, 128M post_max_size, 120 max_execution_time, 3000 max_input_vars and 128MB WP Memory Limit.
Version 8.6 works OK for now on the SiteGround site but I hope the problems with compatibility can be resolved in the future. Providing this information to see if any of the info might help.

I followed these steps:
Step by step: How to install via FTP
Step 1 – Log into your FTP client to access your host web server.
Step 2 – Browse to find the Newspaper.zip file on your computer (located in Newspaper-tf folder) and unzip it.
Step 3 – Upload the folder Newspaper to wp-content/themes/ folder.
Step 4 – Activate the newly installed theme by going to Appearance > Themes and clicking the Activate button.
Step 5 – After you activate Newspaper you will see a notification message to activate the required plugins in the Plugins section of your dashboard. Visual Composer plugin is required —- > no message, crashes.
Step 6 – Click on Install Button on each plugin to start installing them. After you’ve installed them, Activate them.
Also read this section A. Update the theme via FTP:
You should update the theme via FTP way because this is the surest method in this case, according to developers documentation from here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/install-via-ftp/
Hello eduonix,
First of all, ensure that you are using the latest version of the theme installed via FTP way, update all the plugins from your theme panel (ensure that you are using the plugin version which come bundled with the theme packet), clear all the caches and check the results. Remove all of the untested plugins if you are using something like this, clear all of them and check the results.
Hope this helps and let us know how it goes!
Thanks for your understanding!
Hello genugistgenug,
Make sure that your TD COmposer version is 2.1, which come bundled with the latest version of the theme. If do not, please try to make a new clean install from scratch via another subdomain for testing via FTP way, clear all the caches and check the results.
Thanks for your understanding!
Hi,
That is quite an old theme version, much has changed in the theme since then. However you can make the update and there should be no problem. Follow this guide
– https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/
Update by FTP if possible, this is the most recommended method in the matter. After the update deactivate the tagDiv composer, this composer may cause issues to pages built with Visual composer. It will be activated by default when the theme is installed or updated.
The tagDiv composer is considered the main theme page builder now, Visual composer will still be included in the package and updated along theme updates
– https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-visual-composer-plugin/
There will be a new theme update released this week, to fix some of the issues with the latest version. You could wait for this release and update after it is live.
Thank you!
That means the folder already exists, plugin has been installed before or attempted to do so. Connect to the server by FTP and remove the respective plugin folder from the WordPress plugins folder and install it again. A guide here
– http://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/step-by-step-guide-to-install-a-wordpress-plugin-for-beginners/
Hi,
Please send us an email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide admin login information and FTP access as well, we will take a look. Also include a link to this topic in the email.
Thanks
Hello The Rooter,
Ensure that you are using the latest version of the theme and plugin (v2.1) installed via FTP way, clear all the caches and check the results. Try to make a new clean install from scratch via FTP way and check the results.
Thanks for your understanding!
Seems you are missing the mentioned theme panel option, that would be here
– https://www.screencast.com/t/jWpre5zVp0l
This setting was not removed in the current theme option, so this could mean the theme has not been updated properly.
You could try to re-install the theme by FTP then check if the option appears as intended
– https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/
So that error appears after you updated the theme. I have not seen that error before, please try to re-install the theme by FTP
– https://forum.tagdiv.com/install-via-ftp/
Deactivate all other plugins if possible, leave only theme plugins active. You could also contact the hosting provider and mention the database issue to them as well. They might now why this is happening.
Thank you!
Hi, I bought the 8.7 newspaper theme today again (it is my 7st installation and purchasing), but this time, I have big problems.
After Activating the theme, I only get a blank screen.
I have to rename the theme via FTP to work with another.
I deactivated the plugins TDComposer bzw. renamed it via FTP, than I can work on, but after installing this plugin from the Theme or via Upload in the plugins area – however – even a BLANK SCREEN.
So – what can I do?
I can´t find the 8.5 or 8.6 to download to try maybe this version….
It is on http://www.genugistgenug.org
Hello munvik,
Make sure that you are using the latest version of the TD COmposer which is v2.1 and the latest version of the theme installed via FTP way. Clear all the caches and check the results. The plugin has been fully tested and should work as expected.
Thanks.
Hi,
First please check the theme system status parameters
– https://forum.tagdiv.com/system-status-parameters-guide/
Then deactivate all other plugins except theme plugins and test again to see if the error message is still displayed when using the composer.
If it is, send us an email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide admin login information and FTP access, we will investigate further. Also include a link to this topic in the email.
Thanks
I also just know basic things from working with several WordPress themes, so most things about the theme are also technical for me. Now. let me try to answer your questions:
1. Some people were getting errors with their theme after updating to 8.7 and being told to install td composer first was in a bid to try and correct those problems. You can later deactivate td composer if you want to use visual composer. Though the theme developers recommend td composer coz it has elements developed specifically for the theme, with major (and minor) improvements coming in future. You don’t have to install visual composer after td composer if your theme works smoothly if you update visual composer (and bot page builders should not be used together to avoid conflicts).
2. Which cache plugin are you referring to? There is no specific order to install or update the theme specific plugins. If they do not update automatically after updating the theme, just deactivate and delete them and install them afresh from Newspaper>Plugins section or via ftp from the plugins folder of the Newspaper-rtf folder (the one you download from theme forest with al the files inside).
3. If you have chosen td composer, just know you will have to recreate any pages you made with visual composer afresh. The best advice I can give you, first, to know some basics about the newspaper theme coz it is the theme you are currently using, and second is is to always sure you back up your site (at least daily for the database and weekly for the whole site, and I recommend updraft coz it supports remote storage to google drive, Dropbox and others, and also back up the site before updating the theme). I would recommend this site http://www.wpbeginner.com if you want to learn anything about WordPress as a beginner coz it was very useful to me in the beginning (and still is, I, in fact, visit it at least once a week).
Hope that helps you out, and the tagdiv team can add on it.
Hi, I have the same issue. I have just purchased Newspaper Theme and installed it via FTP.
Everything worked smoothly, but after I installed td-composer the backend gone blank and the only solution is to disable td-composer via FTP. I’ve tried to do the same as NightwolfBlood, with no success. I don’t have a previous version to revert to. What can I do?
With version 8.6 everything works perfectly, but when updating everything, this includes the template and the plugins I can not access the admin page, a blank page appears, I removed all the plugins leaving only the td-composer, but the error continues, only if I disable the td-composer plugin via FTP. I had to restore my backup to go back to version 8.6. Do you know how to help me? Sorry for my bad English.
See these guides 1. https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-theme/ 2. https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/ 3. https://forum.tagdiv.com/install-via-ftp/
Option 3 is the best and more recommended option for updating the theme to ensure everything works smoothly with no errors. It is recommended to back up your site so that if anything goes wrong, you can roll back to the previous theme. As for your question, see this http://www.wpbeginner.com/wp-themes/how-to-update-a-wordpress-theme-without-losing-customization/ (I don’t work here).
Since I can’t get the theme to update I just tried reinstalling the entire theme as a new theme. I deleted Newspaper theme from wordpress. Then I re-downloaded all the files from your website. I followed all of the directions on your website and re-installed the theme from scratch through FTP as if I were installing it for the first time.
However again it crashed the entire website. This happens whether I try to update or if I delete everything and re-install as brand new. This is the message that is displayed on my website

Can you please help I am extremely frustrated with the upgrade to version 8.7 . I have never had these problems with past upgrades. Please let me know what to do. Please Help!
My first go at upgrading to 8.7 was a disaster. I punted and went back to 8.6.
I then rebuilt the website up from scratch exactly the way I want without starting with a demo. I used Visual Composer as Tag Composer constantly locked my screen or would not perform. I started with a blank sheet, added rows, columns and widgets and set the loops for articles up and I was successful in creating a robust site with Slider Revolution at the top, pressed right up to the MAIN MENU, having to trick it by entering -48px for the Margin, Newsletters call to actions, Social Media interfaces and a whole lot more.
I then used DUPLICATOR, as I had done in the past, and everything was migrated without a hitch. Previously when I used DUPLICATOR and built the site up using one of the Demos, the replicated site never carried over from the original site. Building a site up from scratch apparently set everything I needed in such a way that DUPLICATING it became a snap.I did not have to do an EXPORT and then IMPORT of Theme settings.
THEN . . . having replicated the site over to another, I gave the 8.6 to 8.7.1 upgrade another try.
To upgrade Visual Composer and Tag Composer, you must first Deactivate and delete them. If you follow the sequence provided in the documentation, it states to delete the Newspaper theme first, then FTP 8.7.1 over under the Themes Folder AND THEN upgrade your plugins.
If you follow that sequence, the Admin Dashboard is completely shutdown and goes blank white. You lose all access to being able to visually do anything. I blew out the site again, and reinstalled again with DUPLICATOR.
The sequence I followed that worked was:
I deleted Visual Composer first and updated it.
I deleted Social and updated it.
I then deleted Tag Composer, updated it, then got a boat load of ever messages of incompatibility with 8.6 and the Social Counter.
I then blew out the old Newspaper theme and replaced it with 8.7.1.
Then and only then did everything work flawlessly.
I installed the AMP plugin expecting a robust configuration tool. The only thing I was able to do was set some colors. Have I completely missed something? I was using AMP for WP and it allowed me to set an image in the header. the only reason I migrated to 8.7.1 was that I thought I would get some robust AMP configuration capability. AMP for WordPress was selling a NEWSPAPER compatible Theme for AMP but I thought with TagDiv I would get a more bug free, robust integration.
Documentation really is very thin. The tutorial on AMP was thin and I struggled to find out if I just needed to drop the Analytics code in or drop in actual code as described in the pop up help on the Theme Panel. I finally just dropped the Analytics code, brought up Google Analytics Dashboard and tested and it worked.
I could not find any specific documentation on the Multi Purpose Plugin. I installed it, played around with settings, and notice no difference on the site, so I deleted it.
The Newsletter Plugin – I have not been able to find any documentation on this at all. I have previously installed Holler Box and it meets my needs, so I deleted this plugin as well.
SO . . . . I AM STILL TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT I GAINED BY UPGRADING TO 8.7.1.
As I read I am finding TagDiv is stating there are bugs with AMP and there will be an emergency patch. I have no idea what those bugs are. I am getting results on the Google Dashboard.
My issue is the AMP Post has no customization. What am I missing? Do I create a template? Do I need to Reinstall AMP fo WP so I can have a logo in the Header? I thought the whole point of Upgrading to 8.7.1 was so that AMP was fully supported.
Since you are advising to download the full package for the upgrade (which
I assume you mean the drop down that says “all files and documentation”)
Then what is the purpose of the other option in the drop-down that says “Installable WordPress file only” (In my notes from previous upgrades had written down and it worked in the past upgrades to use “Installable WordPress file only”.)
So going forward should I only be using the download choice that says “all files and documentation” and use this uploaded to FTP for the upgrade?
