Thanks Nairolf. One more question before I do the upgrade…
If I upgrade now using the FTP method, from version 6.6 to v7.4, will we lose all the various settings we have already made? There are hundreds of settings in the Newspaper theme and it took us weeks to get them all right. I would hate to have to start all over again.

About that message from Visual Composer: completely get rid of them, very soon tagDiv are going to do something to inform new users about that.
You and all of us we are using a copy from Visual Composer, with every update tagDiv also updated the plugin to the current version but in some case this plugin is updated more often, that’s why you receive that notification.
Don’t worry, in the next update of theme you’ll have that version.
Never use Envato Toolkit or other tool, search in this forum how make update through FTP
Issue with your site permissions.
Best way is to learn to use FTP, where you can go to your actual theme folder and delete old theme and upload new one.
Sadly this is how your site and WordPress seem to work, and varies by install and permissions issues for hosting setup.
FTP is best way, as you “know” what is actually there and what is not if the WordPress functions are not doing it right.

You can use a ftp client tool like filezila to upload the modified file in your-wp-install/wp-content/themes/Newspaper, this is the root folder of the theme in wordpress.

In primul rand, acest tip de plugin nu este testat cu tema noastra si nu putem oferi nici un suport pentru folosirea lui cu tema. Pentru cache, plugin-ul pe care noi il recomandam este WP Super Cache deoarece a fost testat cu tema si pare sa functioneze fara nici o problema. Acest tip de problema, apare in general din cauza memoriei cache care nu este goala. Inainte de toate, incearca sa instalezi plugin-ul recomandat de cache si sterge inca odata toata aceasta memorie. De asemenea, intreaba host-ul daca cumva ai cache si pe serverul dedicat deoarece si de aici poate veni aceasta problema. In caz afirmativ, solicita-le sa il goleasca. De asemenea, asigura-te ca ai instalat corect tema, prin metoda FTP si incearca din nou sa vezi rezultatele. Locate Newspaper-tf folder on your computer and unzip js_composer.zip file: http://screencast.com/t/1tHBWGzmWU
Next try to login on the server via ftp, navigate to your-wp-install/wp-content/plugins and delete js_composer folder if there exist one then upload js_composer folder. After this process is completed go to dashboard and activate the plugin, it should work fine now.

To access the server via ftp you fill need a ftp-client interface like filezilla for example: https://filezilla-project.org/ Also follow the host’s documentation for more details about how can you access the ftp and c-panel if you have it available.
You ca also upload the theme in your wordpress from dashboard. Please refer to our documentation in this regard: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/

Please try to make a clean WP install from scratch with the latest version of Newspaper (7.4) according to our documentation here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/install-via-ftp/ We only recommend doing the install/update via FTP because this is the surest method in this regard.

Make your update always through FTP

- Deactivate and remove the VC plugin from WP dashboard
- Install WP-Optimize plugin and delete the transient
- Go to the folder plugins in your theme, unzip the js-composer. You’ll obtain a js_composer folder
- Log in to FTP and upload this folder (js_composer) into the plugins folder
- Log in WordPress, go to the plugins and activate again VC
- Delete your cache
P.D.: take care, sometime when unzip/unrar compress files is generate folder into folder. I mean you’ll see a folder and inside that folder you have again another folder with the same name. Always use the folder that is inside for upload to FTP.

I have inspected your website and I saw that you are using the 7.3 version of the theme. Please update it to the latest version of the theme via FTP because this is the surest method in this regard. Do you have made some customizations in your Child Theme? Please notice that, most likely, this type of error come from your additional customizations which you have in Child Theme. Try to adjust all of them to the latest version of Child Theme which comes bundled with the theme. Try to update the theme according with our documentation and make sure you do a clean update. By this I mean that you have to delete the old version of the theme and upload a fresh copy in WordPress or directly on the server via ftp: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/ – https://forum.tagdiv.com/install-via-ftp/
During the update process deactivate all plugins, except Visual Composer and after the update clear all caches, purge the cdn if you’e using then test the site again.

There is no need for ftp, the issue is most likely related by how queries are made for your custom taxonomy. Unfortunately I can’t debug or provide support in this regard as this task involve many investigations and also some tests in order to be completed.
We can’t offer customization services at the moment so if you still need guidance on this or you’re not aware of the steps you need to take in this regard please consider hiring a developer or a freelancer to do this for you.

Where is your website link? How can I inspect your side if you do not provide this? Sorry! If you want to receive a more accurate response, you will have to provide your website. First of all, please ensure that you have right installed the theme, via FTP method in order to achieve best results. Also, if you are using some untested plugins, please leave just Visual Composer to active, clear all your caches and install only the plugins that come bundled with the theme and rule out any conflicting plugins.
