If you can’t log in — go to your wp-content/ folder via FTP or filemanager on your hosting panel, and change name of plugins folder to xplugins, which will reset and decactivate them so you can at least login

You might check your hosting provider to see if there are any special requirements such as custom permissions.

You can see your “version” by going to the “dashboard” in WP, and/or going to the second menu item on left of WP … “updates” (drop down under “dashboard”) — it will tell you if you need to update or not.

Normally to update automatically, you will need to either
a) enter in your FTP password and IP (common when you installed it yourself)
b) click update – if the program was installed by hosting panel

if (b) applies to you an it won’t work, you might need to put in support ticket with your host.

Latest version of WordPress is 4.2.1 — most host panels will auto-update it if the host panel installed it in first place (e.g., if you didn’t manually install it yourself).

The news ticker is now on the site so you can see the problem for yourself.

I updated the theme through FTP yes.

I have also tried deactivating all plugins and the issue is still happening…

Envato Toolkit didn’t display update so used FTP.

Please accept my humble and heartfelt apologies. Had to upload theme update and js_composer update using ftp.

Then I thought I would raise the problem with Hostgator again and this is what they said:

The php.ini has it set, but the domain hasn’t been pointed to that .ini file. Bear with me just a moment.
(8:16 am) [Robin R.] So you know, I included this code in the .htaccess file, to point the site to use the custom php.ini that was set up in the same directory:

suPHP_ConfigPath ./php.ini
<Files php.ini>
order allow,deny
deny from all
</Files>
</IfModule>

So as you can see the first time I contacted Hostgator although they increased the upload file size allowed they forgot to include the code in the .htaccess file to point the domain to the custom php.ini file with the 1000mb max file size.

Maybe this will help others who encounter the same problem.

Not my theme, buddy. I don’t work here, just giving advice.

Upload works for me, just fine. Maybe you got a bad download.

If the error message is coming from your server, maybe double check the settings.

If Envato plugin not working, that’s not an issue with the theme, but a problem with Envato’s crappy plugin.

Oh well… I’m sure you will figure it out. FTP best way to update all WordPress themes as it avoids the exact issue you’re having with YOUR web server config.

I’m certain that I’m using the zip file with just the theme files. I just tried again and once again got the following error “The uploaded file exceeds the upload_max_filesize directive in php.ini”.

It is not acceptable to me to have to unzip the Newspaper.zip file then upload all the files by ftp. There must be something wrong with the Newspaper.zip file that prevents it uploading correctly and causing this error.

My two previous themes (Bolid and Unpress) allowed me to use Envato’s automatic update successfully too so why on earth can’t I do this with your theme.

That has never worked right for us, as “permissions” on your hosting account may not be writable for that plugin to work — it’s never worked right for us, and not a problem with the theme.

I find it’s better to do update via FTP, as you can also make backup of your files (download old files to your HD), at same time.

Make sure you’re using the zip file with just the theme files and not “all files.”

Or, unzip the file on your HD, then upload the files via FTP, and make backup of your old site content at same time for safe keeping in case you need to “roll back.”

i made thats… i created content2 td_module_blog.php . But when i send to new function.php at ftp, my gallery dont work

We here have NEVER had good luck with the envato plugin; it seems to work for others; and for us, we just choose to do the FTP method since we can make backups of important files at same time.

The current version is the one you can download from your themeforest “downloads” account page.

Yeah, I’m going to try moving to 1.71B today on one of our sites and see what happens. 🙂

If you know what you’re doing there is a quick and dirty way to upgrade, but this requires having FTP window open with the files to upload, and your filemanager on your web hosting platform open to delete the old files with one click. I call this the “in place” dirty upgrade method.

Best way to do it, for safety, is the method found in my “sticky” post top of forum on moving from one theme to another; same process.

I will update that sticky to include my “dirty” upgrade method … but this is kind of advanced in its own way and site will effectively be dead for 5-8 minutes while doing it whereas the long method nobody sees the changes just different theme temporarily.

Also, sidebar widgets “might” or might not reset one or more items, so good to take screen shot or write down anything special or unusual you did with sidebar widget placement. This last issue is inherent to WP, not the theme; although it keeps getting better.
