The theme becomes active only when it’s uploaded on your server via FTP or via WordPress as it’s indicated in our install guide: https://forum.tagdiv.com/newsmag-how-to-update-the-theme/ However to keep your customizations you can use the patch provided with the theme. This patch contains only the modified files from one version to another, so you can simply upload only those files on your server via FTP.
Before making any changes please make sure that you do a full backup of your current theme installation and WordPress: http://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups

We are sorry for the inconvenience caused but it should not have been such a big thing. If you follow the steps for updating then it really should have taken a couple of days to recreate a few elements on your website. A few month’s worth of work from 3 different developers is a bit of an overkill not to mention the price you paid for their services. Updating is simple enough by deleting the old theme, installing the new one and running the update script as suggested in our documentation: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/
We tried to maintain compatibility between the 2 versions as much as we could.

Another possibility for you would be to use Revolution Slider.

I have checked your website and I saw your big white space. Unfortunately, this space does not come from our theme. As you can see in the below screenshot, you have a lot of unknown classes that might come from plugins used by you -> http://screencast.com/t/y2XXZq9m and also, you have some js.errors.
Please try to disable all the active plugins, except Visual Composer, clear all your caches and install only the plugins that come bundled with our theme and try it again. It is necessary to follow this advice because these problems might be caused by these untested plugins.

Note that the Speed Booster plugin disable itself when an incompatible plugin it’s installed. We added this measure to avoid conflicts with the plugins that won’t allow to move their CSS/js resources at page bottom. Unfortunately this error could come from a big number of problems. It is a general error and we cannot pin point it to a specific thing. I believe it happens due to your server configuration which is not responding, it could be due to a delay or it could also be a temporary issue so you can try this a few times and if you still get this error please contact your host provider and let him know about this, ask them to unblock our demo in order to retrieve the theme data. It could also happen due to your wp install or other plugins might also cause this so you could also test this on a fresh wp install and let us know if you still get the same result. Also make sure that your permission for the upload folder are set correct. You can check this by trying to upload an image in media library. If the process succeeds then the permission are ok. If not you can use the c-panel to change permissions (set them to 777) or if you do not have access to the cpanel, please contact your hosting provider.

Because you’re using a very old version of the theme the update process could be a bit tricky.
First make sure you do a full backup to the database and your current wp install: https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups in case something goes wrong you can allays get back to the previous version. Also consider the steps I’ve provide below:
– setup a maintenance mode and you can use a plugin for that.
– empty all caches/purge files if you also use CDN host then disable any services of this type until you switch to the new theme
– disable all plugins
– install the theme then install the required plugins: https://forum.tagdiv.com/newsmag-how-to-update-the-theme/
– switch back the rest of the plugins and make sure that they work fine with the theme, you can check this by enabling the plugins one by one then test the site.
Regarding your customizations these will be lost during the update process so you have to re-add them again in theme files or in child theme. Also make sure that the customizations are still compatible with the new theme because many files are changed and also many functions so there is a chance to appear some conflicts.
You also will need to redo your pages because in a previous version the shortcodes for blocks has been changed so they won’t work anymore. Just edit the page with Visual Composer, delete the existent blocks then re-add them again. Such that the new shortcodes will be generated and the page should be displayed fine.

I have already seen a similar post in the forum but for a different theme “newsmag” so to be sure that I brought up the discussion for newspaper theme as well I am writing a new post.
I have click-fraud monitoring plugin that helps against click bombing on adsense ads by hiding them beyond certain number of clicks. It was working with my last theme.
But with newspaper theme as we have to put codes in theme panel somehow the div wrap that is necessary for CFMonitor to work isn’t applied even if the codes are wrapped in <div> tags in theme panel options.
I have already written to plugin developer and awaiting his response. But I would be glad if theme developer also chime in and give the solution as plugin was working before installing the theme.

I read your response which doesn’t really make up as a support 🙂 I can understand the suggestion of writing to plugin author (I have done that part already btw) but to clear out the confusion… the plugin is working fine with other default themes and it was fine with my last theme.
So after newspapertheme installation I request a support or any idea/workaround from you guys as well in addition to plugin author. Lets not racket it to plugin developer… I really hope he is not going to say the same “check with theme developer”
Do the testing… let us know what to do with it and what could be the probable solution.

I’m not sure what tool you used to move the render blocks to the footer.
Please try to use this guide: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-make-the-site-faster/ and use the tagdiv speedbooster plugin to move render blocks to footer. Keep in mind that the speedbooster plugin has a compatibility function that makes it shut down if the correct plugins are not installed. You can deactivate this option and force speedbooster to run with all plugins by removing this code: http://screencast.com/t/RZLIOPUNdqh
You will have to manually move some of the render blocks.

I had 3 different developers work on this for a few months and all but one gave up. They said this was impossibly hard to work with and it was pretty much like installing a new theme. I paid $300+ use and countless hours in trying to get it done. 🙁

The only way to update the theme without loosing the file customizations it’s by using the patch: http://screencast.com/t/WtZ7djusX The patch contains all modified file from one version to another so you can manually replace the old files with the new oneness from the patch. Before doing any changes make sure you do a full backup to the database and your current wp-install, just in case something goes wrong you can always get back to the previous install.

The envato toolkit usually works but it sometimes creates problems. You can use the toolkit but if there will be errors/problems upon install, the best method is ftp as it does not depend on third party software.

I have followed your instructions (FTP new theme 6.4.4, deleted and re-installed the social counter plugin, created FB app).
Now, it appears to be working on our post pages (where the social counter is a widget), but not on the homepage (where the social counter is a block added to the page). Any suggestions?

It’s not OK for you to blame TagDiv for not updating your theme sooner. They can’t update your site for you, only you can install theme updates.
I think they know it’s a huge issue, hence why they rushed out some fixes/solutions!

You should not download pirate versions of theme you download for “free off some website,” as that is not a licensed working version of theme …
You should fully remove that, then install the licensed version of theme. You can’t install two themes with same name at same time (see WP help at wordpress.org on how to install themes properly).
You can save settings from the custom CSS box, and export some theme settings, but since the version you had initially wasn’t “legal,” who knows what was in it, whether it was working right, had malware, etc. In theory, unless you edited core files, you should be able to delete old theme, install legal one, and you don’t lose any dbase settings, or the transient settings that WP holds onto.
Note also most theme devs don’t give support for stolen themes, only purchased ones.
I don’t work here, just some feedback as long time user.
You should also use SECURI’s free malware scanner to test your site for any malware added from the pir8 version you started with.
Unless you changed the name of the theme in style.css and the theme folder name, you can’t install two versions of same theme and switch —
you would backup old files, custom css, dbase; delete old theme folder, upload new one, and then login to check anything like sidebar widgets and homepage.

I was interested in installing newspaper theme, so for a demo i downloaded it from some other free website and installed it , i adjusted its look the way i wanted in my website. Now that i have purchased the newspaper6 theme and i wanted to install it, while activation in the wordpress theme install page it gave me an error Directory already exist, error installing theme.
I want to install it in a way that it does not change the current look , menus, categories and blocks of my website.
