Hello,

I installed the theme couple of days ago and started building it. Now WP admin bar is appearing above the top menu and I dont know why..

I did not code anything and i cleared system cache but still it does the same.

Please look at it.

My editor always defaults to text/HTML view on the post page, which is what I prefer. Supposedly the “visual editor” is the default, but not for my installs for some reason – regardless of theme.

So, not really a theme issue … however there is a hook you can add to your functions.php to set the specific editor you want as default, e.g.,

add_filter( 'wp_default_editor', create_function('', 'return "html";') );

WHEW!!! Glad you folk got it sorted. I always do the updates via FTP now… it always works, while the WP panel installer is sometimes hit/miss.

I really need to restart my web dev blog ….. (!)

(I know, folks keep asking …. been super busy ….)

To import a “stack” go to bottom of the main theme panel page, and then go to the import styles, then choose the style you want like “sports.”

Don’t import demo content. Just import the style — this basically loads the custom CSS styles to over-ride the standard CSS for the theme. And you can switch or go back if you don’t like how it looks. 🙂

See part (2) of the theme docs here:

Hi,

We had some issue with the social counter plugin on previous theme versions but we have them fixed so if you are not using the latest theme version which is 4.6.1. I suggest you update your theme and also install the social counter from the /plugins folder.
If you still have issues with this please make sure you sue the social counter right: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-manage-the-social-counter/ and also try it without any other plugins active and make sure you empty cache.
If nothing helps please provide a link to a page which contains the social counter with this issue so I can check this.
Let me know how it goes!

Thanks

🙂
try installing just the

Newspaper-tf/plugins/js_composer.zip

or, what works best is to unzip that folder, then FTP the entire folder to

/yoursite/wp-content/plugins/js_composer

If you’re trying to use the Envato tools plugin, punch yourself right now and stop (kidding). That has never worked right for us anywhere, anytime, even in an eggnog fueled dream haze (also kidding). 🙂

Also note you need to turn off any caching and CDN shenanigans before installing plugins, and you also need to fully eradicate any pre-existing js_composer folder, and *not* upload over the existing folder.

Maybe that helps somebody…. again, this is WordPress 101 folks.

Sorry if I sound like a crank. Worked most of the holiday and starting to sound like a bozo, I suppose.

Chris, I agree, I would pay $20 to TagDiv to install Visual Composer, since it is proving to be the thorn in many sides.

As for blame, it is not a blame game, it is more of a “can we get this fixed please”.

BTW thank you for your advice that states “You don’t install plugins by uploading the entire theme, fyi”, maybe this something that should be said so you are aware, unless your point is that they made it and I missed it.

In any case I wait for their assistance for your matter.

Have a nice evening : )

You don’t install plugins by uploading the entire theme, fyi
Installing Plugin from uploaded file: themeforest-5489609-newspaper-wordpress_theme.zip

You install plugins by installing the actual plugin zip files found in the Newspaper theme folder under /plugins/ or in the similar folder found from download the “all files” option from ThemeForest.

So, if you upload the zip file and install each plugin one by one, it works.

If you unpack and upload the plugins individually by FTP (the best way to do it), guess what – it works.

It’s really up to you to learn how to manage your own WordPress site, and properly learn to install packages, zip files, or learn to upload individual folders via FTP.

“RTFM” on the WordPress.org codex to learn how WP works in detail.

But, really up to you if you want to blame the theme devs for not teaching you how WP works. Which is kind of crazy, in my opinion.

TagDiv should probably start offering a $20 install option for those who are unable to properly install Visual Composer.

Dear tagDiv-team,

I’m afraid I still can’t get visual composer to work. When I try to activate it it keeps loading but that’s it. I had a fresh WP 4.1 installation and followd the guide from Chris. I’d really appreciate some help so that I can get my site started.

Thank you very much in advance,
Kai

Dear tagDiv/Newspaper 4 staff
(and all those going through the same unexpected problems)

So why is it that if I bought Newspaper 4 yesterday… I am still stumbling upon the same problem??

We have tried everything and regardless of reading this last thread and others the problem has not yet been resolved.

The problem is once we have followed instructions and uploaded the Newspaper 4 on to wordpress, it seems that the WPBakery Visual Composer plugin does not load. When attempted the following comes up:

Installing Plugin from uploaded file: themeforest-5489609-newspaper-wordpress_theme.zip
Unpacking the package…
Installing the plugin…
The package could not be installed. No valid plugins were found.
Plugin install failed.

To find a solution we turned to the forum. We that discovered others were having the same problem. We hoped that because of this we would quickly find a solution. We attempted all the suggestions posted in this thread and nothing. The same results.

When your sales pitch is promising a 15 minute install, and it takes us a stressful 24 hours and still no joy I feel like that unless you can assist we are left with 2 options- (1) refunding the $58 due to the promised product not being delivered. We have paid but we have received a dud (2) someone from the Newspaper 4 team installs and sets up the theme at no cost.

We look forward to you either providing a solution to this unresolved problem, refunding our money or installing the theme for us.

A swift response expected and appreciated.

Basically nobody should be trying to access your theme directly via that URL… might be a hacker, hence the 500 error.

This also happens “once” when switching themes or updating theme.

For example I updated my theme on the 29th of Dec. got one 500 error. None since.

Technically it’s a WordPress issue, not a theme issue; since what happens when installing or updating theme, is that for a few minutes something is trying to be cached from the location of theme when it might not be there.

If you get a ton of errors, it’s somebody trying to access your theme folder, which is not normal … it’s like somebody trying to access your wp-includes folder; not a normal link anywhere on the site.

Lucian,

I’m still waiting for a fix for this. Since you have found this feature to work ok on a fresh install just wondering if I should reinstall my theme to fix the issue.

What do you think and if you do think it’s worth a try how can I make sure after the fresh install that everything is the same as before?

Thanks

Derek

Hi,

Please also try switching to a WordPress default theme and then reactivate the plugin to check if this happen because of the theme.
Have you moved your site or edited your database as this error comes from a missing table which was previous created and now it’s missing.
To fix this you can try to re-install WordPress then re-install the plugin.

Thanks

Hi,

This issue appears because of the Visual Composer plugin when updating to WordPress 4.1. We have included the fixed version of the plugin within the latest theme version so please make sure you download and install the latest theme version and also update the Visual Composer plugin from the /plugins folder using this guide: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-visual-composer-plugin-wpbakery/

Thanks

Hello,

I am getting a 500 error in my Google webmaster tools for this URL:

https://www.designworld.se/wp-content/themes/Newsmag/

I have turned on PHP error messages for the hosting and it gives me this error:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function get_header() in /customers/c/f/2/designworld.se/httpd.www/wp-content/themes/Newsmag/index.php on line 6

I have also been in contact with the hosting support and they say it’s the theme causing the problem..

Can you help me solve this?

Hi Lucian,

I’m still getting the error message after deactivating all plugins and reinstall revslider (twice). I use the wp latest version 4.1 and revslider version 4.6.5 from Newspaper theme version 4.6.1.

Thank you.

Hi,

Please make sure that you remove the plugin then reinstall it from the /plugins folder included into theme files that you’ve downloaded from themeforest and also make sure you check this without any plugins active.
Please let me know if you still have this errors after doing this.

Thanks

Did you
1) clear all cache on server and CDN as applicable before doing update
2) did you change theme before update to default
3) did you turn off all plugins prior to update
4) did you fully delete old plugin folder
5) did you fully delete old js_cmposer folder (for VC plugin)
6) did you then install new version of theme, and plugin(s)
7) then turn on ONLY new visual composer, then new theme
8) check visual composer works
9) then turn on your other plugins?

If updated correctly, it works perfectly.
