Our website, The Berkeley Observer (berkeleyobserver.com), partners with Newsbreak for syndication. The platform pulls our stories from our RSS feed.

The problem is that when Newsbreak pulls in our articles, it NEVER includes the featured image/main image from The Berkeley Observer website to accompany the headline.

As a result, our articles appear on the Newsbreak site without an image and just the headline, which is not very appealing to readers.

Because Newsbreak hasn’t been using the first image of the story (our featured image), we have been FORCED to insert a second generic image into the article to avoid our Newsbreak feed from showing only a headline. We would rather NOT do that because we could use that image placeholder for an ad spot – and more than anything we really don’t like throwing in a second random image half the time.

This is what Newsbreak support told me when I brought the issue up with them:

“NewsBreak ingests content exactly as it appears in the RSS feed provided by the publisher. If the featured image is not being consistently pulled in, it is usually related to how the image is defined within the RSS feed itself.”

Can you guys offer an easy solution to this problem? I just want our featured image for our stories on The Berkeley Observer website to also be the SAME featured image pulled into Newsbreak.

Hi, after updating to the latest version of Newspaper, my site started having issues where some articles or sections are not displaying properly. The layout appears broken — the featured image shows as a large black “?” placeholder, the text size is incorrect, images appear smaller than they should, and the sidebar is misaligned (sometimes centered). Overall, the page looks completely broken. This only happens on certain articles.

I rolled back to the previous Newspaper version and everything seems to work fine again.

Do you have any idea what might be causing this?

Also, when I first installed the latest version, the plugins didn’t install correctly (tagDiv Composer and tagDiv Cloud Library). That’s the first time this has happened. After the failed install, I updated them manually from the Plugins section and they appear to be working fine.

One more thing: when I view the site while logged in, everything looks perfect. The issue only appears for regular visitors (logged-out users).

I’m using one of the Pre-designed Templates from the tagDiv Cloud Library, specifically Section 3 – Office Nexus.

As you can see from the link provided below, the template includes placeholder images. When I replace the existing images with my own, I can’t get them to position the same way as the originals.

I made sure my replacement image has the same width and height as the original, however when it appears in the template it shows up noticeably smaller.

Could you confirm the exact width and height of the images used in the template, and if there is anything else I might be missing when replacing them?

It’s likely something simple that I’m overlooking.

I would appreciate any guidance.

Recent changes to the WordPress of the site:

• tagDiv Newspaper was updated to version 12.7.4 on about 2 February
• WP was updated from version 6.9 to 6.9.1 on 4 February
• The WP plugin Advanced Post Types Order was updated to version 5.9.3 on 6 February

I tried to fix this header issue with these actions:

• Deactivated plugin Advanced Post Types Order: no success
• With Newspaper Time Machine returned to version 12.7.3: no success
• Had a look at the homepage with tagDiv editor: the HEADER MENU shows a mix of this [tdb …] code and EMPTY COLUMN and EMPTY INNER COLUMN placeholders. The CONTENT parts look ok.
• Installed the WP database backup of 1 February: no success
• Uninstalled the tagDiv Composer plugin (the only active tagDiv plugin on our website) …
• … and installed and activated tagDiv Composer via Newspaper theme/Plugins: no success. I noticed while the tagDiv composer was not active the site showed the header: a logo and the main menue of the site.

At this point I gave up.

If I insert any post flex grid or loop in category page like https://gulfaimagazine.com/category/latest-news/ which is a default template or even a custom page like https://gulfaimagazine.com/videos/, it doesn’t display the post thumbnails. The instruction on the placeholder image is Enable thumb from THEME PANEL BLOCK SETTINGS and on the Theme Panel page, there is no such setting available.

I’m currently trying to achieve the following:

1) I want to be able to hide the featured image placeholder if no featured image is set for a post, for example in the Post Loop.
2) I want to exclude posts that have no featured image in the Big Grid Flex 2.

Does anybody know how to implement these settings?

Is there a way to hide the featured image in a Flex Loop block when no featured image is uploaded? Right now, the system displays a default placeholder image in those cases. We’re working with a publisher who has a mix of posts—some with featured images and many without—so the result is a Flex block full of placeholders, which isn’t ideal.

What we’d love to do is have the posts without a featured image just display the title and excerpt, while still showing the full layout (image, title, and excerpt) for those that do include one. Is there any way to accomplish this with the current TagDiv Composer setup?

At the moment, I’m hiding the placeholder using CSS:

.td-image-container:has(.td-thumb-css[data-img-url*=”td_696x0.png”]) {
display: none;
}

This works, but I’m hoping there’s a more integrated solution—ideally something built into the editor that would prevent the markup from being output entirely, rather than hiding it with CSS.

I have no technical expertise, but had somebody look into the problem. This is what they said:

A Newspaper feature (General Modal Image ON, I believe) converts image links into modal galleries, and adds the A hrefs automatically. So, when it reads the code, it gets the incorrect link from the lazyloaded image. Instead of the link, it gets the placeholder image WP Rocket uses for Lazyload.

So, this feature is not compatible with Lazyloaded images.

[Issue #2]

or disabling WP Rocket Lazyload altogether

the images in the gallery work. However, as opposded to in the past, when clicking the images, these show up at the medium resolution I selected to increase page speed, which results in poor user experience, as can be seen here: https://imgur.com/a/c6aShhr

Previously, my TagDiv Gallery gave me a “link to media file” option that still loaded medium-sized images (page speed), but showed large-sized images when clicking (positive user experience).

Is this part of the error at #1? I don’t believe so, given the disappearance of the “link to media file”. How can I change this? Editing each post manually for the gallery to show Large Size wouldn’t work, since I have 2,000 posts. Besides, I believe this would affect page speed.

PS: I checked outher posts on similar topics as my #1 (1, 2, 3), but couldn’t find a fix.

so, all morning I tried to fix the problem, but with no success. I manually edit and save YouTube embed codes, every time after I upload new YT video. So, I put it at the end of my article. Evertything was working fine. But now, after I clicked “save” through tagDiv Composer, it gave me some kind of error. When I clicked the article, my ads were missing, along with bottom part of the page (tags, related articles etc.). Also, my WordPress upper admin bar and editability function was missing, it was active only on the main (front) page. I tried do update, even manually change the files and plugins, but nothing. Now I have couple of versions of plugins etc.

I have this error, also lost the site logo. Can you please help? 🙂

We often use the Media+Text block from WordPress Block Editor. We’ve recently noticed that some extra code is being added to this block that didn’t used to be present.

This is changing the alignment and presentation of the block on the website. We can manually replace the code, but that’s tedious. Is this code from TagDiv (I assume so based on the td referrer)? How can we make sure this isn’t automatically added in the future?
