You can try to use the carousel block from Visual Composer in sidebar to display the images. To achieve that create a blank page and add on it the carousel block, then press classic mode button to switch in backend editor, copy this shortcode: http://screencast.com/t/z3ciSfUOOv and paste it in a text block in widgets area: http://screencast.com/t/ccKtLy74nfvw

If you use Yoast SEO it should already be added!
If you do use Yoast look at the source code at the top of your homepage and near the end of the block of code for Yoast you should see the entry.

Try to recreate the Block

Thanks for that. Can’t believe I forgot about the block settings. However, I turned off the thumbnail for the size I wanted the full image to replace, then I regenerated the thumbnails, but the full size image still won’t appear in the thumbnail’s place–I get an image placeholder that reads “Enable thumb from Theme Panel –> Block Settings”. I also deleted the cache and nothing seems to work.

When I inspect the code, it looks like the site is still trying to pull the thumbnail instead of using the full image.

EDIT: So, when I switched back on the thumb on block setting, the full image appeared in place of the thumb. Because I’m certain I’ll be regenerating thumbnails frequently (still building the site), I went ahead and altered the size of that particular generated thumbnail in the td_config.php file. My question about that is this: I’m using a child theme, but edited the parent version of the td_config.php file–how should I go about setting it up so that my changes don’t get wiped out upon theme update? Should I place a copy of the td_config.php file in my Child theme folder? Thanks!

Yes, as you illustrate here: http://screencast.com/t/knYTb3jp7K the image dimensions are set to “full” and they used to fill up the entire post area proportionally. Now they are all being cropped as giant thumbnails. I tried deactivating all the plugins – didn’t work. Also just tried turning off all the the “Thumbs on module blocks” and didn’t work. Also you have to set the authors by to display authors by post count in Visual Composer or in widgets area: http://screencast.com/t/zonMc9T2Zb Note that by editing the indicated file author box will display only three authors on entire site.
Before making any changes make sure you do a full backup to your current wp-install.
