You may want to research this online as it’s an old topic, unrelated to this theme’s support or usage. It’s actually more complex than simply changing the name as you first need to change the style.css to point at the new theme name. This is done with all themes, and is also how one creates themes from scratch. WordPress explicitly uses the theme style.css to identify the theme and assets.

You may also need to change any htaccess or wp-config.php settings as needed. If you’re new to using WordPress, this is an *advanced* activity, and there are many articles online regarding how to change the theme folder name.

Once you have fixed the style.css to new name, you would obviously need to select the NEW theme from the admin > appearance function in WP.

As you can see, i want to echo the “Field Name:” of each custom field before displaying the value and also be able to style it with css to look like the first image

Yes I do have other plugins.

It seems that the css was loading my custom theme options settings after the default css was already visible for a second. Not sure if that makes sense.

I added the top nav bar, and the main nav bar colours to my child style sheet so the effect is hidden. (i.e.. nav bar starts blue instead of grey so we don’t see it ‘change’).

Still on my home page – I see my headings change from a large font down to the smaller size chosen when the page loads. I imagine the same solution will work – but this means I am bypassing the admin theme panel all the time now.

• Remove this line from Wp-config file (define(‘WP_CACHE’, true) )

• Check .htaccess file and if you see any code added by w3 remove it

It is usually inserted in a # section above the #wordpress section

The htaccess file is what is used to manage permalinks, and special instructions to the web server.

Usually at
/root/.htaccss

hidden by default; you will need to either set your ftp to filter view and show hidden files; or use the file editor in your hosting panel.

So, there might be a section

# W3CACHE stuff #
blah blah blah
# END #3 CACHE #

(delete the above in .htaccess file …)

Don’t delete .htaccess file completely as that is how the permalinks are able to work.

Good idea to learn to set FTP software to make that visible so you can backup when you do site backups.

Just to recap for anybody reading this thread: Revolution slider is a slider from ThemePunch (look it up on the web– it’s a popular commercial product: http://www.themepunch.com/codecanyon/revolution_wp/ ); it’s one of the various “slider apps” (featured “slide show” that “slides” – like a PowerPoint app, or a “featured stuff” element) included with the theme. Some people like one slider, other folks like a different one. Some allow only images, some allow CSS blocks (text+images). Some people like to have latest stories “slide” although many find that annoying and prefer static elements.

I believe the 2x “demo” uses static featured images on home page (don’t know which “block” off top of my head). I don’t think any of the theme demo pages use the sliders. I’m sure Radu included them as a selling point, but also for those moving from another site to use the sliders, which some people love, some people hate. Most news sites don’t use them anymore (think CNN, NY Times, LA Times, Daily Mirror, etc.). It’s more commonly used on business/ecommerce now and *not* for news/magazine portals, as it often has a bad UX (user experience) on mobile for “above the fold” content. So, great for GoDaddy home page, bad for a newspaper.

As far as I know it’s (Revolution slider) only used by theme to build a slider for home page or custom page, if so desired. If you’re not using it already, then no need to use it unless you want to. Sliders are NOT used to build menu items. But the demo page shows what it’s good for (link above), for those who’ve never looked at that.

MANY theme developers use this slider, or the bootstrap slider, and/or woo slider and include them with commercial product (e.g., “Newspaper” theme).

Sorry to ramble on there … hope that made sense.

UPSHOT: no “slider” used with theme would normally have anything to do with menus, navigation, or the like.

The “slide out” menu used by theme is simple CSS/dhtml/less stuff, and doesn’t need a plugin to do that.

Clear the cache.
Delete cache folder.
Replace original css/js files from your install copies.
Clear your browser cache completely.
Hit refresh 2-3 times, close/open browser, or whatever works with your particular browser.

Should work.

I had lots of trouble with W3 cache; not using it. Will be looking at Total Cache since it’s made by WordPress/Automattic. But no other advice from over in these parts.

It’s strange. On a previous install my menu went boom when i deactivated the slider so i assumed it had something to do with the mobile menu.

So I’ll have to ask, What exactly is it doing? Is it used on the demo site at all?

go to the w3 Total Cache settings and turn off minify for js and css and it should revert back to the way it was.

VPS (“virtual private server”) is just a web server sliced into multiple pieces for folks to use. It doesn’t impact anything loading on the page … it’s just a hard drive connected to the net, with the attendant software running on server.

The revolution slider *shouldn’t* impact the menu? My menu still seems to slide out when clicked with revolution slider turned off and not called in the theme (2x version).

Menu not working may be other issue related to your additional plugins, menu settings, etc.

See: ga-ga.com running 2x; no revolution slider; menu seems to work for me.

so by upgrading to a VPS with the settings you recommend, the warnings for Slider Revolution will magically disappear?

As I mentioned by disabling rev slider i’ll jump to 100/100. But then my menu is no longer working. It seems to be enabled on the demo site and I’ve followed the other advice.

These are the only warnings I get now:

That CSS modification doesn’t seem to have changed anything on non-retina displays, so will you update the theme to have the line-height attribute to 29px in the next update?
