- NewspaperHow to Update the Newspaper Theme
All was working fine before the latest update. It was the update that broke things.
As mentioned, following the update the pages showed a wp booster error and did not render at all. Activating tagdiv composer allowed the page to show but the strange rendering of pages explained above occurred. At no time were any pages created with tagdiv composer, it was only installed for the first time with the latest update.
I then reinstalled Visual composer via ftp, deactivated tagdiv composer and the pages rendered again but still had the weird display errors. I then removed tagdiv composer and wp supercache. I reinstalled the whole theme via ftp (minus tagdiv composer) but the problem continues.
I guess the only way to fix these issues are to build all affected pages from scratch, at least 20 pages around 20 hrs of work I didn’t anticipate 🙁

Hello nasadino,
Unfortunately, I do not exactly understand why do you have changed the N in n? Please leave the name of these files to be exactly when it comes from Theme Forest, like this -> https://www.screencast.com/t/Zfig6kYRQi22 Try to make a new clean install from scratch via FTP and please do not change anything and follow our useful guide here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/install-via-ftp/
Thanks for your understanding!
Hi,
Please try and reinstall the theme by FTP
– https://forum.tagdiv.com/install-via-ftp/
Also deactivate and delete the tagDiv composer, and install it again from the theme package.
Then deactivate all other plugins except theme plugins and clear all caching. Check the results and let us know.
Thanks
Hi,
This is an unusual issue, I have not seen it before. Please update the theme by FTP
– https://forum.tagdiv.com/install-via-ftp/
Then deactivate all other plugins excpet theme plugins and clear any caching installed. If you use a child theme, switch to the main theme. Then check if the problem is still occurring. Please let us know the results.
Thanks
Hi – I FTP the ‘Newspaper’ folder up onto the server and it over writes the files etc. as anticipated – hovever the site & admin then goes to a white page… restoring the backup restores the site. Is 4.2 to the latest version too big a jump?
Hello riealeksandra,
Please keep in mind that the very simplest way in this regard would be to delete the old theme, download the latest version of it from Theme Forest and then install it via FTP way because this is the surest method in this case, according to our documentation here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/install-via-ftp/
Hope this helps and let us know how it goes!
Thanks for the message!
Hi,
In some cases reinstalling the theme, or the composer also works
– https://forum.tagdiv.com/install-via-ftp/
Or try lowering the PHP version of your server if possible and test. Use the latest version of the theme, as it is compatible and tested with version of PHP up to 7.1.
Thanks
Hi,
The recommended way of updating or installing Word press themes is by FTP. Please see this guide for more information about this, and also other steps to ensure a smooth update process
– https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/
Auto update is also available through the Envato plugin, as mentioned in the guide.
Consider making backups, in case something goes wrong you can simply revert to a previous working website. Hopefully that will not be the case.
Any modifications made to the theme files directly will be lost, but nothing else will be affected (theme panel settings, custom code, posts, pages etc).
Plugins included with the theme can simply be deactivated and removed and then install the new ones from the theme package.
Other plugins that are working with the current version of the theme, may or may not work anymore after an update of the theme or of the plugin. That is the case with all themes and plugins.
If you want to make the switch to the tagDiv composer you will have to recreate the pages with the new editor
– https://forum.tagdiv.com/tagdiv-composer-tutorial/
– https://forum.tagdiv.com/visual-composer-tagdiv-composer-transition/
Some elements that were specific to Visual composer are not available in tagDiv composer. More options and features will be added to this front-end page editor exclusively, in future updates however.
Thanks
Hi,
Maybe you have strong caching, try clearing the cache after replacing the file, and purge CDN files if you use it.
If you still have problems, please send us an email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide admin login information and FTP access, so we can take a look. Also paste a link to this topic in your email.
Thanks
Hello tradenet,
Please consult the documentation regarding on proper way of using this plugin, like this -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/tagdiv-composer-tutorial-2/ -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/visual-composer-tagdiv-composer-transition/ If the problem is still there, try to re-install the theme via FTP way and check the results.
Thanks for the message!

Good Afternoon – I am a first time user of newspaper and tried my best to dig up a solution to this on my own.
I created a website: http://listeniowa.com
The pages are trying to load an asset: http://192.168.0.208/wp_011_test_demos/wp-content/uploads/2017/05/4.jpg I don’t even see the folder …/wp_011_test_demos/… in my FTP so I jump to http://listeniowa.com/wp-content/uploads/2017 and there is no folder 05 in it. I created it and then created file 4.jpg to try and fix the issue. It’s still not working.
Can you tell me how to resolve the issue? This is the only asset that is not loading. I never intended to have a file called 4.jpg ever. I assumed it was part of the theme but am not able to resolve it. The site looks fine without this file and I’m not sure why it’s so persistent to try and load it. Load times are 9 seconds+ which, as you can imagine, is an issue for the end user.
Thank you
Ben
Hello solaris,
You should download from Theme Forest the latest theme version and then, via FTP way, you can update it, according to our documentation here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/install-via-ftp/
Thanks for the message!
Hello Xperten,
You should install the theme via FTP way, without any problems because this is our recommended way to update your theme and also, this is the surest method in this case. First of all, make a full backup to your database.
Thanks for your understanding!
Hello rahimvaziri,
I recommend you to make a new clean install from scratch via FTP way because this is the surest method in this case. First of all, ensure that you have made a full backup to your database and then try making a new clean install.
Thanks for your understanding!
Hi nomoretechno,
I’m sorry for this but please notice that you will have to check our changelog list because there you will see all of our versions and what kind of VC version was used in them, like this -> https://themeforest.net/item/newspaper/5489609
Please keep in mind that we do not recommend to use an older version of theme because you will not bring the best theme results, sorry! Notice that our theme is in a continuous development and you should keep up the steps with the latest version of it. Make a full backup to your database and then, remove the old theme, download the latest theme version for Theme Forest and install it via FTP way because this is the surest method in this case. After this, you should begin to recreate your website because the 8 version of Newspaper is different than 6 version of it.
Thanks for your understanding!
Hi,
Please re-download the theme package and install it again
– https://forum.tagdiv.com/install-via-ftp/
Then check if everything is fixed and working properly. We are sorry for any inconvenience this has caused for you. Please let us know if you have any further problems.
Thanks
Hello popaxiom
Please try to make a new clean install from scratch via FTP way, clear all the caches, purge CDN files and check the results. It is possible to be a problem with your theme installing and that’s why you bring this message. Notice that all the theme code was very deeper tested and verified and should not exist any error through it.
Hope this helps and let us know how it goes!
Thanks for your understanding!
Hi,
This is unusual indeed. The problem is only on that specific post, I could not find others in this situation. If a plugin is not responsible and you have no custom code in the theme panel or added directly to the theme files, then everything should work properly.
You could try a theme re-install by FTP, if possible
– https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/
Consider making a backup before, just to be safe.
There does not seem to be anything specific on that post, that could be causing this.
Thanks
Hello all,
If you have re-installed the theme via FTP way and if the problem is still there after this, please send us an email at contact@tagdiv.com with your credentials so I will be able to take a closer look and it and also, so I will be able to provide a more accurate response.
Thanks for your understanding!
Hi,
I read and used that guide to create a child theme, but it didn’t work.
I tried now, I unziped the theme package again and I uploaded the child theme without a modification next to the parent theme on the FTP server but it still the same.
FTP folder: http://www.screencast.com/t/Hv8xUiV8eo0
I have the latest WordPress: http://www.screencast.com/t/Pe5DDGkg
Wordpres Theme settings with the error message: http://www.screencast.com/t/kdT16FGUzv
I have the latest version (8.1) of Newspaper, and the child theme functions.php looks like this: http://www.screencast.com/t/HnrUjrRb9gv
Thank you for your help!
You would need to either adjust your hosting settings, or ideally learn to upload via FTP, as this also allows you to make site backups same time and is the ‘best way’ to manage WP sites.
Hi,
Updating the theme will not remove your theme panel settings, or custom code from the theme panel. You can always make backups to the theme panel settings like this
– https://forum.tagdiv.com/import-export-theme-settings/
This is a guide to help you with the update, the FTP method is usually recommended
– https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/
You can also make full backups, it is safer this way just in case something goes wrong.
Thanks
Hi,
Try uploading the images through the Media library, instead of FTP
– https://www.screencast.com/t/cjW4JfEIW
You can select multiple files at once as well.
Thanks
