1. If you use the Homepage-with article list, Homepage-bg+article list templates you cannot change the latest posts to show on the top of the page.
If you use the Default Template, Homepage – bg-no article list, Homepage blank or Page builder – with title templates you can change the latest posts to show on the top of the page from visual composer.
2. To hide the top black menu go in theme-customizer-> navigation like here:http://screencast.com/t/rj5k7klNl
3. Unfortunately, you cannot edit the featured thumb only from code. you can hide it like this: http://screencast.com/t/w55FuuCQLBI
4. Sorry, you cannot move the navigation menu yet.
5. We will try to test our theme with ubermenu and will let you know if it work.

Hi!

I have a couple of questions that I can’t find the answer on your documentation.

      My blog is set to show the latest posts at the homepage. How do I set the slider to show on the top of the posts?
      I see that in a release in Sept 24th you say we can hide the top black menu, how to? I can’t figure!
      Where do I edit the featured thumb? I want it to show but I want it somewhere else, not on the top of the posts as they are now.
      Can I move the navigation, the main one, to the top and let it stick there? How to?
      Do you have knowledge of your theme working well with ubermenu?

Thanks very much!

All and Radu,

I’m glad my little bit of research was able to help. Obviously the best fixes will come from the dev himself. By and large Radu does an excellent job supporting us, just this fix was rather urgent so I stepped in to help.

I look forward to the next version Radu and if there is anything “we” as a community can do to help support each other please let’s all keep the feedback flowing. ๐Ÿ™‚

PS: neotrope – in Laguna Beach here, so ‘dude’ you’re totally welcome! ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi,

I would like to change the URL of the homepage of my blog.
In a first time, I used a phantom URL to create and test it.
Inside WordPress settings, I put the new URL destination (different of the location folder of the files). And now I can’t access anymore to the admin page.
When I go to the phantom blog adress, I can see the content but all the CSS and newspaper them are disabled.

Please help !!!

Thank you

HI, all
this really should at least be a standard “on” option for the posts page, if nothing else, since ALL newspapers post a byline for a story, and this is the main point of this theme!

I realize you have lots of other stuff on the to do list, but I’d move this one up a little higher as any “real” magazine or newspaper site that isn’t being setup for content spam MUST have bylines for each article.

Thanks! ๐Ÿ™‚

Hello,

Replace this files http://import.tagdiv.com/newspaper/block6.zip

– td_block_6.php in \includes\app\shortcodes
– td_wp_cake.php in \includes

I’ve make the block6 that is module9 and you can use it with page builder. Use for your homepage as template Homepage – Blank

My point is, we shouldn’t need to decomment anything, i.e. do any hardcoding to activate it. The same goes with my homepage, I’d like to have the information who has written those articles. If you don’t want a lot of text there, my suggestion would be to use little icons, so little icon of clocks for date and time, you have got the eye for views and comment bubbles for commnents and perhaps a little icon of an user or a little person for the author.

All I am saying is, this is a must and I still can’t understand why it still isn’t included in version 1.5.

What is the dimensions that we should fill in here:
http://screencast.com/t/ExLvYJpDCa

I downloaded the Regenerate Plugin and it isnt regenerating the proper sizes to FIT each page (homepage, category, sidebar, etc).

Thanks in advance,

Hi, Radu
awesome. I think a “knowledgebase” area with the answers to most common tricks/tips, and “hacks” (“mods”) would be welcome. I know when I was going to post something about the byline there was no way to “search” for any prior fix, and some things like the fix you gave me for using a pre-existing data field for the “reads” counter would be great to have in such a knowledgebase … and it saves you from answering some of the same questions over and over ๐Ÿ˜‰

You are way ahead of the crowd, however, in answering most replies timely and accurately, and using screen shots with arrows — really great work on all of that.

Hi Daniela,

the trick was: “The posts that appear in big slider are featured posts(posts that are in the featured category).”

Now it works ๐Ÿ™‚

Many thanks & regards

Hello all!

Thanks for reporting this. I’ve added that line to fix a bug with excerpts that have html in them. Before the “fix” the excerpt length counted the html like “http://import.tagdiv.com/newspaper/td_util.zip it fixes the \ issue and it still removes the html from the counted excerpt lenght. It's still not perfect ๐Ÿ˜ for example if you want to show a \ in your excerpt, the new system will remove it. but I'm working to improve it.

Thanks again to all. We are also working to improve this support forum. I think we can make a community here ๐Ÿ˜‰ not only for our themes but for wordpress and publishing in general!

The posts that appear in big slider are featured posts(posts that are in the featured category).

I had a quick look at their other themes and they did include the by line in them, so I am not sure why they haven’t done the same thing here. Hey, let’s hope the devs are listening. If they don’t want it to be the default setting, they can always add an option in the admin menu, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves here.

Hi, we need this feature desperately as well … I thought I had put in a ticket about this, but now can’t find it. All traditional magazines (I’ve worked at many over the past 30 years, being a middle aged guy now) and newspapers put a byline at top of article to show who it’s written by and also most traditional WP themes have this option for the index views of content, so that somebody who wanted to read something by a particular author would see their name (the average person might be more interested in the name of the writer than how many views it’s had on an index page of book reviews, for example).

eg.

One downside, is that “curly quotes” don’t appear in excerpts, which they should as quotes are not inch marks. Not sure if this “fix” disables that functionality or if it was a built-in “feature” to disable any entities. Ideally entities for proper editorial quote marks vs inch marks should be maintained.

Hi there,

So I was wondering whether you would add an important feature: “by line” to aforementioned module 9 + article view (and to everything else to be honest). I feel like the author box isn’t cutting it in terms of who wrote the article (I’d rather had it turned off), so a nice little “by line” would be great. Every single big tech blog site uses it and it should be available in your great theme too!

Also, instead of just showing the date the article was published on (article view) it would be nice to have something like “Published on” just in front of it, follow by “by” and author’s name. So all in all, it would look like this: Published on 13/10/2013 by iOSPortalSK (iOSPortal being hyperlinked to authors profile).

Let me know what you think and thanks in advance! ๐Ÿ™‚

How can I set up the “bid slide” with “Homepage – bg + with article list”? All I see on the template is the red area for the big slide, but no way how to set it up.

Many thanks

Hi,

I have a specific problem, where I encounter this only on this theme.

Basically, I have a menu and sub-menu. Let’s call the menu as menu A, and menu A has submenu B and submenu C.

On the main navigation, I set the submenu B and submenu C as the child of menu A, so if user click on the small arrow on the right side of menu A they can see submenu B and C.

The problem, as I specify above, only occurs on Ipad/Galaxy Tabs. Iphone, BlackBerry, and PC users don’t have this problem. The problem is this :
– In the homepage, I hover on menu A, and I have no problem accessing menu A, or submenu B and submenu C.
– If I navigate to menu A, I can still go to submenu B and submenu C.
– But if I navigate to submenu B, I can’t go to menu A (I can still go to submenu C). If I hover above menu A, the link still shows that it will take me to menu A, but in reality it will still goes to submenu B. Clicking menu A will take me back to submenu B, not to menu A.

Basically, I can say that if I goes to the submenu, the navigation will not allow me to go to its respective parent folder, although the navigation still clearly show that I am able to go to the parent folder.

FIXED:

Open up td_util.php (located in \Newspaper\includes\class) and go to line 275.

There you will find a new line of code added since version 1.4 of the theme. The line should read:

$post_content = wp_filter_nohtml_kses($post_content);

Comment out this code like so:

/*
$post_content = wp_filter_nohtml_kses($post_content);
*/

and save the file. This will bypass the offending piece of code but leave it in the file for your records.

PS: To the developer, you are welcome!
