If you update from version 4 to 6, then all customization will be lost.
Newspaper 6 is a whole new theme so an update from 4 to 6 may cause the same issues as switching to another theme (but we did try to maintain compatibility where ever possible).
Always make a full backup of your current installation – https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups and then do a clean update, meaning that we recommend that you delete the old version of the theme before uploading the new one – https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/ update also the plugins that come with the theme files from the /plugins folder. In the “how to update” guide is specified that you will have to run the script that will import from database your settings.
The shortcodes have been changed so old ones will not work anymore. Please note that old files customization or custom css will not work with the new version and you will have to adjust or re-add them.
Bottom line is that newspaper 6 is a whole new theme built from scratch.
Unfortunately you will have to clear your agenda and spare a bit of time to adjust all your settings to the new version of the theme.

I tried to update my theme… It’s a disaster…
Everything has change… I can’t let this new theme. It give me too much time to put in place the same options and layouts than the previous version.

Hello,
There is no setting to increase site width. Our theme works with a grid layout and increasing the width of the site will impact the blocks and other elements on your website creating undesired effects. It can be done with CSS but that means you have to style all the elements to fit the new wider layout.

For what you want to achieve it is necessary more customization, custom work. Using only Css style is not a good way because you alter the quality images. It’s about aspect ratio and all of the images have an specific aspect ratio. If you modify, there not looking good. Hi,
I am trying to change the fonts (from default to robot condensed) on my website (which is still under construction). We recently updated to Newspaper 6.5 and now the fonts section in the theme panel does not even open any more (whereas on Newspaper 6.2 I could access the fonts settings, but the fonts did not follow the change on the page).
The next question then would be how to change the size of the fonts for headlines, menu, etc.
I am a wp-beginner and not experienced with CSS, so a step-by-step guide would be greatly appreciated.

This is the default behavior when you set you block this way. After the 10 post limit you set, the other posts will display random which includes the ones already shown. The filter does not detect which post is shown previously so these situations can occur. Unfortunately for the random sort order there is no solution for double posts. This is on our list of improvements and in a future update we hope we will be able to implement an option to make these random posts unique.
As an alternative you can sort your posts in a different way or use pagination so doubled posts will not be as obvious.

I have 2 questions/issues though, that i need your guidance to fix!
1) Social Counter is not updating for some reason.
Plugin Version 2.1
Theme Version 4.2
WP Version 3.9.2
It was working fine up to a certain point where it stropped updating, when i went to change the ID (e.g Facebook) to test it, it shows “0” likes (therefor putting back the previous Facebook id shows “0” again)
How can I fix this??

Many plugins need to be updated too. The issue is that we have made it multi-site and we have done quite a lot of modifications. As the client is a newspaper portal you understand it is very risky and we can just go down for couple of days. So my question is, if we just go into maintenance for couple of hours and update theme and plugin (maybe WP too) will we lose anything? Is the latest update changing anything that might affect our update and lose anything? Is there anyway you can advice to apply the updates with the minimum risk of losing anything modified?

Also I see that you use the old version of the theme and the latest version of Visual Composer. I suggest to update also the theme to the latest version 6.5.1 as using VC 4.7.4 with Newspaper 4 could create issues.

I Forgot to update tagDiv plugin previously, and still after updating I got the above error
VC is on 4.8.1 right now with a big security fix that was in 4.7.4. When and how can I get this update?
likely somebody trying to access your theme folder directly which nobody should ever do unless trying to hack you; and sometimes you will see this from doing install or update to theme where temporarily while files are being moved around if Google pings your site they would end up following a temp redirect. You will then see this as a “one time” thing. Simply mark as fixed, and move on 🙂

I have updated my theme from v6.2 to v6.5 using the patch files provided.

First i moved from v6.2 to v6.3
then from v6.3 to 6.3.3
then v6.3.3 to 6.4
and finally i moved to v6.4 to v6.5
After that when i opened the admin panel, all other things are working fine, but the theme panel is showing empty area and no options are coming. Please let me know how to resolve it.

I updated the theme using Envato Toolkit so I didn’t see that there was a plugin version bundled with the theme.
I have now downloaded the file and uploaded it to my plugins section and I’m pleased to say it works!

Please upgrade the plugin to ultimate version like this: https://forum.tagdiv.com/newsmag-how-to-update-visual-composer-plugin/ . If the problem persist, you can check this without any plugins active except of Visual Composer, clear cache and see if you still have this issue.

Hi,
If the problem is still there, it can be caused by the page speed. CSS loads in cascades by default so if the load speed is realy slow you will see every step of the cascading styles. You can try to improve the pagespeed by following this topic: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-make-the-site-faster/
You can also check to see if a plugin does not slow down your website, or you can check your server configuration.
The best way to eliminate this effect is still to use the style.css and create a back-up of it so it will not be lost in an update.
