This issue could be related to a small value for upload_max_filesize and post_max_size so please try to increase them (also the other directives) in your php.ini file.

The theme uses the ad_image_size() function to create the thumbnails used on posts and pages – https://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/add_image_size

The thumbs are used to speed up the page load speed, large images will slow it down.
