Each time a users access your website he will automatically create a request, each time a users clicks on your page / element in page it will create a request. More users mean more requests. Indeed this is a strange issue. It might be cache, Please contact your host and let them know about your issue, if they offer any caching plugin, our recommendation would be for they to turn it off and let you use your own. Also make sure that your website has security and nobody else can access it in order to create damages.
