How do I remove the automatic display of how many comments an individual author has received.
For example on the Home/authors/posts by “.” rendering where the theme displays two boxes showing #number of posts; and #number of comments.
I just want to get rid of the author comment number box where it displays in various places.

The 2 elements are controlled separately. They are 2 different elements.
The author is the author of the post shown here: https://www.screencast.com/t/fE9DalNkRUNn
The author box is shown at the bottom of the post: https://www.screencast.com/t/MXLovEKnDl
Both can be enabled or disabled from the theme panel.

Hello,
Sorry but the author box will not allow html It will accept some tags but not all of them. It will strip the content of tags. Sorry but there is no simple method to implement spacing in the author description on the author template.

Hi,
The author box requires an author ID to be entered in the required field. This guide mentions how the ID can be found

Enter the user ID and it will display user information. If there is a problem setting it up, please provide a link toy our website so we can inspect this element.

I could give you a quick fix to further overwrite this code, but it would be better to remove it. Please check all the theme panel Custom code sections and remove it if it is present there. Mainly check the Custom HTML and Custom CSS sections.

As you’ve poss gathered I’m a total novice. I’ve worked a few things out for my home page but I’d like to add two boxes to the front page that will simply be used almost in lieue of pages in the header bar until I have more content for my site. I’d like to have an image with an intro paragraph underneath it and then you click it and it brings up the info to follow on. Any methods or blocks etc I’ve seen all seem to be on a blog basis with ‘bits’ of info all over it ie date posted, author etc and I’d simply like a clean post as my site is quite minimalist plus this is irrelevant info as it isn’t a blog.
Any help would be gratefully received thank you as I’m not finding this very obvious and I thought I had a brain cell!
Oops. My enthusiasm was premature, Simion. The CSS you suggest only works when the category-gadgets (to use your example) is included in the page build. Thus, if I select the category ‘category-gadgets’,from my sidebar, a page builds with only ‘category-gadget posts, and the css includes the style classes ‘.single .category-gadgets .(etc) ‘ so the {display:none} works.
But on a more general listing of posts that does not specify the ‘category-gadgets’ category, then {display:none} doesn’t work. (Though it works just fine if I remove ‘category-gadgets’ and my CSS reads .single. author-box-wrap { display:none; }. Which of course turns off all the author boxes and defeats the entire purpose.)
Do You have any other ideas, or are we stuck here?

I’m aware that this problem may be due to AdRotate and not Newspaper, but I’m posting it here in case anyone ran into a similar problem.
I have several custom ads along with one responsive AdSense unit all together in an AdRotate group.
The group is placed through Newspaper theme panel into ‘Header’ location, with default options for AdSense.
On desktop, all ads work as expected.
On mobile, the AdSense unit will not show up no matter what. Its code is in the source, but all of its parent elements have a height of 0.
When I add the AdSense unit there manually (not through AdRotate group – just pasting the code in the panel box or in AdRotate code box) it works.
So I believe there is a problem with the way mobile ads are sized. I have contacted the AdRotate author as well. Any ideas?

Thanks for your prompt and helpful reply. I can assign a category for my ‘external-pointing’ articles, use custom CSS to switch off the author box for posts with his category, then hopefully I’ll be able to use custom CSS to hide the category header itself in the post (a needless distraction).

If those special posts would be included in a particular category, this would be possible with a simple CSS code. For example I don’t want display the author name and author box for posts in the “Gadgets” category. This would be the simplest solution to remove the author name an author box

I’m developing a site in which a great many posts are commented notifications of new, authored topics on various remote sites, and which need no author box or even ‘by author’ tags in the posts on my site. However, a number of in-depth posts are/will be authored ‘locally’ and should have author name and author box attached to post.
Is it possible to switch off name and box in the theme template, then switch a theme ‘on’ only for a few individual posts?
(switching name and box ‘on’ in theme template, then switching ‘off’ with custom css per postid would require far too much custom css work!)

Might be your own ISP.
Normal debug would be turn all extra post options OFF like related post, more from author, fly out, sidebar widgets; disable plugins; check server ERROR LOG for bad plugins.
Check system status in theme panel. You do need to have more RAM allocated to WP, longer timeout settings for php, etc.
You also need to setup your site/hosting properly for WordPress with things like GZIP/deflate, expiration headers, etc., which have nothing to do with the theme
