I was very surprised that this theme doesn’t enable us to show/hide the author box (that appears at the bottom of single posts) by category, and that the only option the theme provides us is “all or nothing”; show/hide the author box across ALL posts in all categories. Really? May I please put in a strong feature request for this?
Meanwhile, I did research in the forums here and found some others who were similarly interested, however their desires were a little different from mine. Whereas most others want to only hide the author box for a category or two – I am the opposite, and would like to only SHOW the author box on one or two categories (the blogs, where it makes sense).
I used the theme panel to select the option to hide the author box, and then dove into the code on td_module_single_base.php and simply added
|| is_category( array( 65, 84 )) ) {
to line 705 that starts with
if (empty($hideAuthor)
So the line reads:
if (empty($hideAuthor) || is_category( array( 65, 84 )) ) {
I’ve tried placing this modified td_module_single_base.php in the (same subdirectories, etc.) in my child theme, and when that didn’t work, I tried overwriting the existing td_module_single_base.php file in the Newsmag theme itself, and it still doesn’t work.
Can anyone guide me on what I’m doing wrong or missing? Thanks so much in advance!

Hello,
Unfortunately there are no plans to change the element as it comes from visual composer. We try not to change existing visual composer elements (just add our own). At the moment we do not plan on adding our own author box, but maybe if more people request this feature, we will be able to implement a better styled one. Until then you can maybe find a plugin that provides a different author box than the VC one.

Are there any plans to add some styling options to the Authors Box? Right now it’s just a straight vertical line of authors. Would be great to have some styling options like two or three rows.

hi, no the issue is not the gray strip. I know my picture is small, I have uploaded larger version of the image with no issues.
The little box is where the date and author name is. It appears that is the background color. IF you remove the feature image and hide the date and author display, that small gray box is there. Does your post title with blue background line up with bottom? It looks like it is little higher and there is a gap.

When i mouseover an author from author block small color change to very light grey from white and if there is a title long enough for 2nd line then the title appears a bit passed the other authors box…

Unfortunately there is no option for this and creating one will require custom work which we cannot provide at the moment. If you know your way around PHP you can edit these 2 files:
newspaper->includes->shortcodes->td_block_authors.php and newspaper->parts->page-authors-box.php
If not maybe you can find a plugin for the author box that adds more information.http://www.shoutmeloud.com/author-box-wordpress-plugin.html
We have not tested these plugins so we cannot make a recommendation. You will have to try them out and see how they work.

If you want to disable author-box for all authors on posts, then there is a much simpler solution without editing the theme-code files.
On the admin side of your WordPress, click “Theme Panel” and then select “Post Settings”. Then, from the details that appear, again select “Post Settings” from the right-pane. There is an option called “Show Author Bpx”. Simply, unselect this option and the author Box will not be shown on all posts.

Well, note the “sync” button on the Disqus settings tab ?
That is how you “sync” your local site with Disqus — both of those are BUTTONS you need to click to download comments to your own dbase off their server, but also “sync” your data with theirs for I/O … at least that has been the case with my site.
The theme uses the built-in WP comment datafield — meaning, if Disqus/other plugin writes to the WP dbase normally, then the theme can pull from that to get the # of comments. Theme has NO control over the plugin, or the plugin writing to the WP dbase.
Anything in the Disqus box is NOT on the server/site/dbase — it’s loading externally. So, unless the data is getting shared/saved locally, then WP and thus the theme cannot see it. 🙂
If plugin not working right, you’d need to check with the plugin author.
I’ve seen some discussion prior, but nothing specifically calling this a bug or that even mentions it directly.
I use the theme option to turn the modal box on site-wide. One caveat of the modal box is that you must have the image link to the media file for it to work. Great. So why is it trying to open the modal box for an image with a Custom URL set?
By definition, it’s going to cause an error.
I’m trying to include a custom banner linked to an external author profile on a social media site at the end of posts. No matter what I do, setting ANY link on that image (it has no caption) forces it to open the image in a modal, which causes a well-documented error, “The image # could not be loaded.”
This is a bug that should be addressed. Here are the options I see that would solve this problem, each with different effects:
1. Have the site-wide setting affect each individual image setting to implement the modal. Currently, turning the site-wide option on does not change the position of the modal box switch in each image, thereby rendering that switch useless to do anything but turn the modal box on. If the site-wide setting forced this switch to the true correct position, then turning the modal off for a single image would be as simple as flicking that switch off.
2. Fix the code for the modal box to check if the image indeed does link to the media file. Since linking to the media file is the only way the modal works, then it should only be used when that is the case. This would allow the site-wide setting to be overridden per image by simply selecting to link to the attachment page or a custom URL. Currently, selecting none does turn the modal off, but selecting Custom URL does not and throws an error when the modal tries to fire.
3. A predefined class that can be added to image links that theme.js would use as an override per image, like no-modal or force-modal-off. This is more of a superficial fix, but it accomplishes the necessary outcome and allows us to engage our readers more with promotional images linking to external URLs in our posts.
Anyone second one or more of these fixes as a fast-track on the bug list? Any other ideas?

we are using/testing wordpress ‘s default comment system and want to install a
“Subscribe to Comments” type of plugin to it so when someone replies to comment author, he will get email notice

“Send email only on Reply to My Comment, but the way it positions is too close to everyhing on comments box, drop-out menu is not nice either
any other choice? I prefer it is a simple radio button like bbpress, simple and works!
