Im surprised that theme like NewsMag dont have menu colors 🙂

How to make menu color (different) for each item?

I try in custom css this, but no results

I need to turn off Ads on Mobile/Tablet devices - reply

Hi Lucian.

I just replied back via email. We need to know how to turn off Ad sections at all for mobiles and tablets. You sent us ‘steps’ of how to place separate/different Ad Tags.
We don’t want to place there (mobs/tablets) any other tags. We just need To turn those ad sections off on mobiles and tablets and leave just Desktop Ad segments (Currently we have empty ad spaces on mobiles). We also don’t want to use simple CSS for that, because it just hides the segments. Unfortunately, Your standard Theme Panel functions (DISABLE ON TABLET LANDSCAPE, DISABLE ON PHONE) dont’t work.

Unfortunately the theme doesn’t have an option for that, you can change the way the video format is handled from here: http://screencast.com/t/DkqXUU50M or you can set it to video format the use css and hide the videos you don’t want.
Either way you need custom works and unfortunately we cannot offer custom work at this time as we work hard on the development, updates, fixes and support.

Regarding problem one, please make sure that you enabled the smart sidebar first like this: http://screencast.com/t/U2R5qfOx and if you use the visual composer to add your sidebar or build it you have to add this td-ss-row css class to the row in which you add the sidebar or you build it, should look something like this: http://screencast.com/t/q3K0xMqcQByH or you simply build you page using VC and set it to use a sidebar: http://screencast.com/t/gPpZ0jSPKe and make sure you have smart sidebar active and this should do it.
Regarding second problem please note that unfortunately you can’t set infinite scroll to latest articles section.

Hi,

In my example I also use the block 13 and because of the css I have pointed to you it looks like that and module 14 or block 13 are the same, the differences is that the block is build from modules.
So I have explained in the previous post that you can’t easily modify block 13 so that the title go under it so I gave you an example of css that you can use and you would start from there if you want to cutmize it so that it would look good.
This is the css I have used:

.td_module_14 .td-module-thumb { margin-bottom: 100px; }

.td_module_14 .meta-info { bottom: -90px; }

Updating an old site. Best practice? - topic

Hello

I am updating a highly customized site from version 2.2 to 4.0. I was wondering how the best way to go about this would be. In the live preview much of the formatting and layout seems to have been removed. I have no custom CSS.

I realize this is an extremely old version of the theme, would it be easiest to simply install 4.0 and rebuild from the ground up? Is it possible to limit the reformatting if i to update 2.2 to 2.3 then to 2.4 etc? are these theme versions still available?

style.css contains a lot of woocommerce style definitions.
I understand that these definitions are standard from the theme so I do no need to remove them.

I just want to be sure that dirty css remain on the pages after having disabled woocommerce.

So I believe no additional clean-up is needed.

Hi,

This could be due to the speed booster plugin version 3.0 that was provided with the latest theme version, which is 4.6 (by mistake we have added 4.5d).
Other than this css flash which appears only when using the speed booster plugin the theme should work fine so please make sure that you empty all cache the purge files if you use any CDN host service then disable all plugins and check again.

You can avoid CSS import by not using a child theme.
You can remove query strings by using the functions I have previously recommended for adding to your functions.php file. You can also optimize your thumbnails by editing your functions.php file to set higher compression level for WP, and then run the “Regenerate Thumbnails” plugin.

Add these to bottom of your functions.php file, for one example:

I’ve recently disabled woocommerce plugins.
I’ve noticed that many woocommerce references are still present in Inline CSS.

Is this a newspaper compatibility feature or is something dirty left by woocommerce and not removed ?

In case, how can I remove it ?

Okay… as promised, here is some help for this based on what I’ve done in past for Newspaper, translated for what works with this theme. It may be that the italics are not loading properly due to the enqueue method; dunno. I posted this in your other thread, but will also post here for completeness.

(admin – correct me if wrong on any of this !)

Note that in the td_fonts.php file it does appear italic is specified to be loaded from line 889 (this whole block was found in functions.php in Newspaper theme for those who are moving over).

e.g.,

wp_enqueue_style('google-font-rest', td_global::$http_or_https . '://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=PT+Sans:400,700,400italic|Ubuntu:400,400italic|Open+Sans:400italic,400|Oswald:400,700|Roboto+Condensed:400italic,700italic,400,700'); //used on menus/small text

That “should” be loading the “normal” body font (400 weight) in both normal and true italic (vs oblique/slanted non-italic font).

Check your page source for a post to see if that is actually there.

Similarly at line 902 this is found; presumably this would be enabled and enqueued if selected from the theme fonts selectors:

This has the light, normal, semi-bold, and bold weights, however does not have the italics, which I am not sure appends or replaces the main element at line 889.

Likely if one were so inclined they would edit the line 889 to add all the weights desired for Open Sans, remove the fonts and languages not being used, following the schema spit out from the Google Fonts website font builder:
http://www.google.com/fonts#UsePlace:use/Collection:Open+Sans

e.g., Open+Sans:300italic,400italic,600italic,700italic,400,300,600,700

so, you could edit this code like so:
wp_enqueue_style('google-font-rest', td_global::$http_or_https . '://fonts.googleapis.com/css?family=Open+Sans:300italic,400italic,600italic,700italic,400,300,600,700'); //used on menus/small text

For expert users, one might actually remove that block from the td_fonts.php file entirely, edit the style.css to search/replace all fonts to Open Sans, then grab the CSS from Google’s server by loading the above URL in a browser, and putting all the styles at bottom of the style.css sheet (I actually did this for Newspaper on one site, for better PageSpeed Insights score).

I only provide these examples as possible solutions and they may not apply to you. Hope that helps somebody on this topic.

I’m doing this right now…. it’s not terribly hard. You can save some of your custom CSS, but redoing the home page, redoing the ads, and setting up sidebar modules does need to be redone.

Biggest issue is making sure you switch off the old theme, switch off all plugins, fully delete the old Newspaper plugins from server, and do fresh install with the new theme; don’t try to re-use the old Newspaper plugins with the new theme. I crashed my WP install (500 server error), being a very experienced dude with WP, because I forgot to deactivate stuff in right order. Tricky that. Visual Composer is kind of a POS with WP theme switching, to be frank.
