Hello frankcf,
In order to achieve the best results after you will install the latest update you have to follow some rigorous steps like this -> you have to delete both of your themes, child theme, and main theme. All your customizations from your Newspaper 3.9.1 theme will do not work because all the files from this were changed in Newspaper 8.6 or 8.7.1 (latest update) and as the main theme and also you lose all changes.
The Newspaper 8.7.1 is a whole new theme so an update from 3.9.1 to 8.7.1 may cause the same issues as switching to another theme (but we did try to maintain compatibility where ever possible).
Always make a full backup of your current installation – https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups and then do a clean update, meaning that we recommend that you delete the old version of the theme before uploading the new one – https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/ update also the plugins that come bundled with the theme files from the /plugins folder.
The shortcodes have been changed so old ones will not work anymore. Please note that old files customization or custom CSS will not work with the new version and you will have to adjust or re-add them.
Bottom line is that newspaper 8.7.1 is a whole new theme built from scratch.
Unfortunately, you will have to clear your agenda and spare a bit of time to adjust all your settings to the new version of the theme.
Hope this helps and let us know how it goes!
Thank you for the message!
So what you want to say “font awesome” Eliminate render-blocking JavaScript and CSS issue will resolve or not. “font awesome” is showing in allowed plugins list.
Can you please summarize way this activity performed. (i.e, what will happen when we move the code or activated the plugin)
Regards,
Jubel Thomas
Hi,
So the change of font size for the blocks through the theme panel still doesn’t work? Even after the update?
I removed the CSS I had and tried to change the size of block 21 (so module 16) but there was no effect.
When do you plan to fix this?
Best Regards,
Hi Catalin,
I’ve placed the code as suggested, but the icons still appear in the header and footer of the blog posts.
Would advanced css work? or what would the next step be?
Thank you,
Hello, first of all, thanks for the awesome topic and this useful forum (it helps a LOT).
The only thing I have not found how to change is the styles of H. Despite editing the styles.css, I still get “inherit style” from webkit and I do not know how to modify it.
Thank you!
Invalid CSS stylesheet What’s wrong with the problem?
Hi Bogdan, I deleted the p tag but the situation is the same..the font size is always 7px…May I change something on CSS file?
Hello rox,
You should use the code below and place it in Theme panel -> Custom CSS area.
.wpcf7-submit{
color:green!important;
}

Hello dailyfulki,
First of all, I will thank you for choosing our theme! If you want to set up some custom colors for a certain block, notice that you should do this from custom CSS code. Below I gave you a simple example for a certain block which I gave it a custom class -> https://www.screencast.com/t/H7okwk0FH
The code is ->
.my_block .td-excerpt{
color:red;
}
Also, if you will check the Style tab you will see there a lot of option that allows you to customize your block as you wish.
Please keep in mind that each demo his own style and that’s why the block 9 is different. If you like this skin you should import the Gadget demo and then, for block 9 you will have that style. Notice that you can customize each block you want using such a Custom CSS code but if you are not aware of the steps which are needed to take in this case, please consider hiring a freelancer/developer to help you because we cannot provide custom work at the moment, sorry!

Hi,
I believe you have maybe reviews on posts, mainly point or percentages style reviews. These are implemented using inline CSS and they are detected as such. We will make modifications to the way reviews are styled and avoid this issue. These changes will be made as soon as possible.
Thanks
Hello alisamig,
You can have https and use the theme properly but you need the right configuration.

I even reuploaded just the wp_booster folder; still getting an error.
I am using a Child Theme.
Warning: base64_decode() expects parameter 1 to be string, array given in /homepages/9/d333495089/htdocs/homicidal2018/wp-content/themes/Newspaper/includes/wp_booster/td_css_res_compiler.php on line 54
Hello! In the Image Box, would like for the custom title text to be at the bottom, and not in the middle of the box. Could you help me do this with CSS? Thanks!
I updated and am now getting this message:
Warning: base64_decode() expects parameter 1 to be string, array given in /homepages/9/d333495089/htdocs/[foldernamewithheld]/wp-content/themes/Newspaper/includes/wp_booster/td_css_res_compiler.php on line 54
Never had an issue with the newspaper theme. I updated this morning to the new 8.7.1 version, and now i get this message on the homepage:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function mb_detect_encoding() in /home/clovisroundup/public_html/wp-content/themes/Newspaper/includes/wp_booster/td_css_res_compiler.php on line 54
HELP!
Hi, I’ve changed the font size for author description in custom CSS with this code:
td-author-description p {
font-size: 18px;
line-height: 200%;
text-align: justify;
}
but the size doesn’t change in the box after article, it is always 7px. What is the problem?
Hi Catalin,
Thanks,
How do I hide pagecount on the frontpage?
I thought I could delete this CSS:
function get_views() {
$buffy = ”;
$buffy .= ‘<div class=”td-post-views”>’;
$buffy .= ‘<i class=”td-icon-views”></i>’;
// WP-Post Views Counter
if (function_exists(‘the_views’)) {
$post_views = the_views(false);
$buffy .= $post_views;
}
// Default Theme Views Counter
else {
$buffy .= ‘<span class=”td-nr-views-‘ . $this->post->ID . ‘”>’ . td_page_views::get_page_views($this->post->ID) .'</span>’;
}
$buffy .= ‘</div>’;
return $buffy;
}
From td_module.php
But it crashed my frontpage.
Thanks for your patience.
Hello raebild,
You should use a bit of CSS code if you want to change the color of this ->
The code is ->
.td-pb-article-list .block-title > span{
background-color: red;
color: blue;
}
The result is here -> https://www.screencast.com/t/SqCwsJJLp5AT
Thanks for the message!
Hi,
You could use block 2 which has that layout
– https://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/block-2/
Or you could use two types of block, for example block 2 on top and block 7 below
– https://www.screencast.com/t/2QGp84diyh
All block have options to set a post limit, in the example I limited block 2 to 2 posts and block 7 to 4 posts. That could be a solution to achieve that layout.
An effect could be done with CSS, depending on what exactly you want the image to do on hover. Use the browser inspector to create custom code
– https://forum.tagdiv.com/create-custom-code-using-the-browsers-inspector/
Hello,
Sorry for the inconvenience. We will fix the review inline css ASAP and release a new theme update with the fixes.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
I’m trying to find a way to add a class to posts in a module.
Example:
On the front page we have a listing of x posts from a given category.
Two of these is sponsored content.
I am using Advanced Custom Fields to define the post as “sponsored” in the admin-area, and therefore a meta- value is assigned to the post (e.g. “is_sponsored”).
How can I add a “sponsored” class to each post in any list without going the long way and changing the code everywhere in the theme?.
