- NewsmagHow to update the theme
Hi,
If you used Visual composer to create your website, then deactivate the tagDiv composer and everything should work fine. Maybe something went wrong during the update process. Please try and reinstall the theme by FTP
– https://forum.tagdiv.com/install-via-ftp/
Than temporarily deactivate all your plugins except Visual composer and theme plugins, and clear any caching installed. If the error is still present, it would be helpful if you could provide some screenshots so we can see.
Thanks
See the them docs on how to upgrade. v8 is entirely new version, with many many changes, so be sure to review the help/info before doing so.
How did you try to update/upgrade?
Best way is via FTP, so that you can make backup first, and then roll back if you have problems with new version.
Hello,
I have created a staging site using the Newspaper Theme 8 to this test url: http://062.257.myftpupload.com/
We presently have a live site but we have had problems with files being corrupted and malware so we want to re-build the site from the ground up.Here is the URL: http://powerofhumans.com/. We are hosting this site through GoDaddy.com.
Our biggest concern is having all of the social media data from Facebook, Twitter and Instagram lost in the transition. How would you recommend moving the content over to the new staging server?
Thank you so much for your help in advance,
Adria
Hello!
I have just bought Newspaper theme [Version 8.1] and I would like to modify some of the modules, but I can’t activate the child theme in WordPress Admin, it says “The parent template is corrupt. Newspaper parent template must be installed.” But the Newspaper v.8.1. parent template is installed. And next to this error message I saw the child theme’s name is “Newspaper 7 Child theme”.
I found another topic where you said I should use “function theme_enqueue_styles()” lines without ‘c’, but it didnt work for me.
My FTP folder look like this:

And here is my child theme functions.php:

Thank you!
I have repeated the process carefully three times (by ftp), and always the same error. Previously I deleted cache, disabled unnecessary plugins, etc. But always the same error. It only happens to me in the default template
1) make sure you properly installed the new theme and related plugins — you need to delete old folders, not simply over-write them; but make backups via FTP first — as ever
2) after update,
– run WP-Optimize plugin to clear transients
– resave permalinks to clear micro transients
3) make sure you clear/reset any caching plugins prior to update/upgrade and afterwards; if not using caching plugin, the 1 and 2 above should help.
That’s what I do anyway. 🙂
Hi,
Please send us an email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide admin login information and FTP access. We will take a look as soon as possible.
Thanks
Hi,
You can try updating through WordPress or by FTP instead. The FTP method is the most recommended theme update procedure. Follow the guide and everything should work properly

Consider making a backup if you did not already, just to be safe.
Thanks

Hello ariful,
I have tested on my side and the Big Grid Full seems to be right fit on the page, as you can see here -> https://www.screencast.com/t/tVkzvVTy Ensure that you are using the latest theme version installed via FTP way, clear all the caches and check the results. Also, please notice that we do not recommend using the TD Composer for all the pages which were created with the Visual Composer. Check the following guide for a better using our page builder, like this -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/visual-composer-tagdiv-composer-transition/ -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/tagdiv-composer-tutorial/
Hope this helps!
Thanks for the message!
Hello neevin2017,
1)First of all, ensure that you are using the latest theme version via FTP way because this is the surest method in this regard. Also, check the system status parameters to be increased according to our documentation here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/system-status-parameters-guide/
2)Basically, you should not activate the theme for each update of it but notice that you should check every time the theme’s status because it is possible to need to reactivate it in some cases.
3)Please notice that you should not update your Visual Composer to 5.2.1 version because this is not yet tested with our theme, sorry! Please ignore the message and use only the plugin’s version which comes bundled with the theme core files and without use other versions of them.
Thanks for your understanding!
Hello nomoretechno,
You should install it via FTP way because this is the surest method in this case. Notice that we recommend doing a full backup to your database for each theme update.
Hope this helps!

Hi,
Try updating the theme by FTP to make sure it is done properly
– https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/
Also check the theme system status and make modifications to the parameters mentioned in this guide, if necessary
– https://forum.tagdiv.com/system-status-parameters-guide/
Then try the tagDiv composer again and see if it works as intended. Please let us know if you still have problems.
Thanks
Hi,
I see that you are using an older version of Visual composer, try updating it to the latest version provided in the theme package
– https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-visual-composer-plugin/
Then clear any caching installed, and check if the error is gone. The best way to update the theme is by FTP, you could try to reinstall the theme by that method as a last resort
– https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/
Thanks
Hello, I am sorry for the delay in getting back sooner… I was out of the office on medical leave.
I have tried deactivating all of the existing plugins with only the 2 required Newspaper / tagDiv plugins remaining active and updated the theme to the most current version 8.1:
https://www.awesomescreenshot.com/image/2710222/460bc918eaa38ea368d4e4046b4c9245
I also double-checked by removing all previous plugins via FTP and even with the updates and the removal of all other plugins, I am still having this issue:
https://www.awesomescreenshot.com/image/2710235/8ee3819a0aeca71b8ef9f10562356295
System status is all correct: https://www.awesomescreenshot.com/image/2710240/6df6ef2d7100f625d080eec065ec4b52
I cannot get a homepage layout to work without this functionality so I look forward to your assistance.
Thanks, Kory
These are the files that have changed from version 8.0 to version 8.1.
You can upgrade from version 8.0 to version 8.1 by simply copying those files over the existing ones. However, this process is for advanced users.
The most correct and safe way to update is update the theme via FTP: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/
Also remember to update the included plugins along with the theme, from the theme package.

Hi, I’ve just updated the theme to 8.1 version (previously I was with 6.5).
I have used the FTP-way, deleting the old folders (both for theme and plugins) and then uploading the new ones.
There is one big problem. In desktop version, the mobile menu appears upon my logo. I have tried to deactivate all the plugins but the problem persists. I have emptied the cache many times, with no result.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance
Hello nomoretechno
Please update the theme to the latest theme version via FTP way and install only the plugins that come bundled with the theme core files and check the results. Should work as expected. Most likely, you have removed the Visual cOmposer and when you re-install it again, you have installed the 5.2 version of it which was not tested with the theme and that’s why you have had this error. Now, the theme is fully compatible with this version and that’s why you should update it. Clear all the caches and check the results.
Thanks for the message!
Hi,
First step would be to deactivate all plugins as a test, except the plugins provided with the theme (use the latest versions). Check any code you might have entered in the theme panel, or added to the theme files directly.
If you use a child theme, switch to the main theme and check the results.
As a last resort you can reinstall the theme by FTP
– https://forum.tagdiv.com/install-via-ftp/
Thanks
Hi,
That is an unusual issue you are having. The mobile theme has nothing to do with the tagDiv composer. The composer is not required in order for the mobile theme to work properly. Something else is likely to cause this problem. At the moment this is how the website looks on mobile
– http://prntscr.com/g3u5n7
This is not caused by the theme, only plugins, custom code inserted in the theme panel or added to the theme files could cause results like this. Or a child theme with modifications that you might be using.
That’s why the first suggestion is to deactivate all other non-theme plugins, to possibly spot the one that is causing this.
You could try a theme reinstall by FTP as a last resort
– https://forum.tagdiv.com/install-via-ftp/
Make no modifications to the theme, and activate only default plugins.
Thanks
Hello umoetteumoh01,
It’s strange what you mean. Most likely, this errors is only by your side, sorry! Try to make a new clean install from scratch via FTP way and install only the plugins that come bundled with the theme core files, clear all the caches and check the results.
Hope this helps and let us know how it goes!
Thanks for the message!
Try this method: https://forum.tagdiv.com/install-via-ftp/
Hello theg1819,
Please notice that our theme has been fully tested before releasing and we have not encountered any type of error in this regard, sorry! Please try to re-install the theme via FTP way according to our documentation here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/newsmag-install-via-ftp/ Use only our tested and required plugins which come bundled with the theme core files and check the results.
Hope this helps and let us know how it goes!
Thanks for the message!
Hi,
Try updating the theme by FTP as mentioned by Chris
– https://forum.tagdiv.com/install-via-ftp/
Check the update recommendations as well from this tutorial
– https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/
Thanks
Hi,
First please deactivate all plugins except the ones provided with the theme, an clear any caching installed. If you are using a child theme, switch to the main theme. Check any custom code you might have entered in the theme panel, or added to the theme files.
Then check the homepage and see if it displays properly. Try editing the homepage with the tagDiv composer and check if everything works properly.
You could try and deactivate the tagDiv composer as well, and delete it. Then upload it again and check the results.
The surest way to update the theme is by FTP, as a last resort you could reinstall the theme. Maybe something went wrong during the update process

Please let us know how it goes.
