- NewspaperHow to Update the Newspaper Theme
Hey everyone,
I am getting several critical errors when I try to install the theme.
First and foremost, its the tagDiv Composer. but it happens with Subscription and OptIn Plugin as well..
It forces me to go to the FTP, delete and reinstall it every time.
Just bought the theme today and its very frustrating, to be honest.
What to do know?
Hope anyone can help.
Best Wishes
Hi @Noumedem,
We can take a look, so please contact us via email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide the wp-admin and FTP/cPanel access to investigate the issue.
Also, during the investigation know that we will disable the other non tagDiv plugins.
Also, please make a full backup to all files and databases and include the link to this topic to identify you.
Thank you!
Hello,
Please try to do the update manually via FTP/cPanel -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/ and do a full backup of all files and databases before updating.
Also, please try to update the theme without extra plugins activated during the installation, as this may interfere with the installation process.
Also, after the update please make the tagDiv plugins are installed, like tagdiv Standard Pack, tagdiv Composer.
Thank you!

Hi,
Maybe the problem is that you are using an old theme version (9.6.1) with the latest WordPress version and is possible to be parts that are no longer compatible. Now the current theme version is 11.4.1
So, what I can suggest is first to make a full backup for your website and database and after that to update the theme or downgrade the WordPress.
The theme should be updated via FTP, by replacing the old theme with the new one. After that install the theme plugin tagDiv Composer, tagDiv Standard Pack and the rest of the theme plugins if you using (social counter, newsletter).
I hope this will help you!

I am 99% sure I am missing something simple, but I cannot figure out how to change the article link color in block 11.
Here is a link to the dev site – https://o9q.d55.myftpupload.com/category/news/
I am trying to change the article title and text color, but do not see an option in the category template for those pieces.

Hello,
You can delete the default themes, but I recommend you to keep at least one and the latest if possible.
Sometimes, we recommend trying any default theme instead of the active one to find a bug. But you know, if you have the cPanel/FTP access, you can upload ’em anytime.
Please check this article -> https://www.itsupportguides.com/knowledge-base/wordpress/wordpress-can-i-delete-the-default-themes/ -> https://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/how-to-delete-a-wordpress-theme/
Thank you!

We want to remove the ads from this front page. We do not plan to run ads on the website and do not want the ads that came on the prebuilt site to be there. I have tried several things but cannot seem to delete them from the page.
UPDATE: Problem could be temporarily solved by adding define('FS_METHOD', 'direct'); to wp-config.php
But its is just workaround as it forces WP to try only direct access to files and as soon as it tries to change something on disk, it will fail. Without asking for FTP access. So errors caused by composer are gone, but you cant update nor manipulate files. But at least it is definitive confirmation that there is something wrong in Composer module when using FTPEXT access.
And should be possible to replicate on hosting with PHP 8.0.13 using wp-config.php set to forceuse FTPEXT by adding following to wp-config.php
define(‘FS_METHOD’, ‘ftpext’);
define(‘FTP_BASE’, ‘/your/path/to/web/www’);
define(‘FTP_USER’, ‘user’);
define(‘FTP_PASS’, ‘pass’);
define(‘FTP_HOST’, ‘host’);
define(‘FTP_SSL’, false);
Did you find any solution to this? Posted same error few months ago here https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/activating-td-composer-causes-500-internal-server-error/ without any working solution.
One symptom for this error is when WordPress is using FTPEXT access to files and PHP is 8+, probably doesnt show up on installations where it has direct access to files. Unfortunately my host doesnt provide direct access and I am stuck with error. Even tried to include FTPEXT credentials in wp-config.php to provide WP access without having to ask user for these, still no change. Probably just using FTPEXT causes this PHP8.
It shows even on clean install of WP+Newspaper on this config (PHP8 and FTPEXT). Thought that when I give it some time (posted about this problem about 5 months ago), it will be fixed with some update. Still doesnt.
Hello, I solved my problem.
While installing the theme from ftp, 1 letter was added to the theme name by mistake 🙂
Thank you for your help.

Hi,
I see. So you are using the Newsmag v4.7, this theme version is from 2018, but you are using the last WordPress version. Maybe here is the problem, a theme version that it is 3-4 years old most possible to no longer be compatible with the last WordPress version.
My suggestion is to make a full backup for your website and database and update the theme. If is possible I will recommend to make an update test on subdomain or staging.
You need to update the theme via FTP/cPanel, by replacing the old theme with the new one. After that install the theme plugin tagDiv Composer and the rest of the theme plugins if you use them (social counter, newsletter).
Thank you!
Hello @jpkoivo!
Please submit a request on Updraftplus plugin’s support and maybe they can guide you.
Thank you!
Hi stringbenderb5, this situation is because you are using an old theme version, probably 10.3 and the last one is 11.4.1, so my recommendation is to make a full backup for your website and database and update the theme. Please make it via FTP/cPanel -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/ -> https://i.imgur.com/DLm726y.png

Hi,
The code from the /wp-content/plugins/td-composer/legacy/Newspaper/includes/td_config.php on line 33214 is related to the personal Instagram account -> https://i.imgur.com/s2OJIaA.png
I made some tests, But I do not see how this can affect the website, at list for me is working correctly.
What I can suggest, is to update the theme via FTP/cPanel -> https://i.imgur.com/QWuAITM.png, but only after you have made a full backup. IN case that the problem persist, please disable all non theme plugins and try again!
Let me know the results!
Newspaper seems to be making roughly 30 versions of each image that is uploaded. I disabled all plug-ins, so I believe it’s coming from the theme. Can you let me know how I can stop this from happening, as I have over 1.5 million files now?
I’m also running an outdated version of the theme; my plan is to update it in late March, because now is our busy season and I have been unable to upload it except via FTP, and I have been afraid of data loss.
Would appreciate any advice.
Good evening everyone
I finished creating my site locally, I saved it using the Updraftplus plugin, then I put the site online at my host, I then made some changes to the site by online, so I decided to save the site online to come restored locally, the restoration went well, the problem as soon as I launch my site locally http://localhost.com/ I am redirected directly to my online site https://guineeopportunites.com/, yet I still want to work locally with other sites.
Could someone please help me!
Thanks in advance everyone
I got the nearly the same probleme here.
/wp-content/plugins/td-composer/legacy/Newspaper/includes/td_config.php on line 33214
Just another line?
Update from 10.4 to 11.4.1
After the update everything is fine in the admin area but site is not working in FE due to inactive builder. It shows only the div builder tags.
When I activate tagDiv composer the admin area and frontend is directly down. I just click on install and than activate and the admin can’t be used anymore and get directly the error msg.
When I change the name of the plugin via ftp
/wp-content/plugins/td-composer to something else => admin is directly working again
My first idea was W3 total cache might be the reason. I deactivated it without successfull update. Than completly removed it but without success.
After each not successfull update I added a backup before the update but could not find the reason for it.
Any idea how to solve it or find the reason?
Hi,
You are using an old theme version. It is working properly with WordPress 5.9.1 ?
If you want to make a theme update, I recommend to make it first on staging or on subdomain, and only after you have a full backup for the website and database.
What you should do is to update the theme via FTP/cPanel, delete the old theme and set the new one, after that from Newsmag > plugins install the theme plugins. Here is a guide that can be used -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/newsmag-how-to-update-the-theme/
I hope this will help you!
Thank you!
