Hi
before doing auto-updates, good idea to download and review the changelog. For the latest update, for example, the only thing that changed was update to visual composer for a security patch and so you didn’t need to update the “whole theme,” and just update the plugin.

Manual install is still always “safest” way to go as the Envato thing sometimes just simply does not work and I totally abandoned even trying to use it, for exactly the issue you are now facing!

Just an opinion, food for thought.

Hello Fabrizio,

1) You can re-position your review widget but still limited. You can have it at the top or bottom of the post. Not inside the content. To place it at the top you have to modify the core files for the post template you use: http://screencast.com/t/IYVp00MUSj this is for loop-single.php which is used by the default post template. Template 1 uses loop-single 1, and template 2 uses loop single 2 etc.
As far as the blocks are, you can activate visual composer on pages but the feature is not tested and could have weird results. You can still try it out though: http://screencast.com/t/nTIcnKbhb6

2)You can add a text block element and place an image inside it and set it to aling left:http://screencast.com/t/QOpKs8qEbn
You can edit your text block as you would a post.
the result: http://screencast.com/t/iicNvxeJVAB

Thank you!

Hey,
I don’t want to link to the category page, because i built up an extra page with Visual Composer.
Is it possible to remove the “/categoy/ part in the URL of the category tag?

Regards,
Reinhard

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the quick reply, sorry if you had to repeat the same things again.

1) So in my case, is it recommended that I run the import script, which is also known as the update script?

2) Where do I find the import/update script? (I’m in the theme panel and I can’t find the link, help)

3) Is the import/update script method no longer constitutes a clean install?

4) What is the correct sequence of events to start my update?
– Back-up entire site, database (done)

– Don’t use FTP as “there may be issues” (I have always updated using FTP method, so which is the safer method to update?)

– Please make sure that you delete the following files from Newspaper 4:
page-homepage-bg.php
page-homepage-bg-loop.php
page-homepage-blank.php
page-homepage-loop.php
page-homepage-timeline.php
(do I delete the above files via FTP first?)

– Update Visual Composer and Social Counter when updating from V4 (so do I update them before or after updating the theme?

5) Do I still need to export my current theme settings if I’m using the import/update script?

6) Can I use the 6.5.1 pack to update from 4.6.3?

Thanks again for your help.

Hi guys!

I know that this is something that some people have asked before. I want to add comments on some pages (which I’ve used Visual Composer) and have done this: https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/enable-comments-in-pages-w-page-builder/#post-59342 copying and pasting the code:

<?php
if($td_enable_or_disable_page_comments == ‘show_comments’) {
comments_template(”, true);
}?>

but it still doesn’t working.

Any ideas? Thanks for advance!

Alex

Hi,

First make sure that it is not a plugin that cause this issue, please disable all the plugins except of Visual Composer, clear cache and then check if the issue is still there.
Also if you have some custom modifications to the theme files please remove them and check again.
I also checked this and did not found any issues using the latest theme version 6.5 and also only the plugins that come with the theme active.

Thanks!

Hi,
If you do not want to use the features of visual composer, you can disable it, but you will not be able to use it’s features anymore. It can be done, but it limits customization. And if you already have pages created with visual composer, they will not work anymore.
If you remove it, it will still appear in the theme panel but not active: http://screencast.com/t/gQ7cuDJeb
Thank you!

Hi,

Please disable all your plugins except of Visual Composer and remove all the customization to the theme files(for example ads from post template) then check if you still have this issue. A plugin or you custom modifications cause this errors and the issue with load more pagination.
I also tested this on my side and did not found any issues. I have added a block to the post template and the load more pagination works – http://screencast.com/t/r9NgHAqu5http://screencast.com/t/P5tE3l8Qphttp://screencast.com/t/uQzntcM5OjUH

Thanks!

Most themes which auto update in WP use either a theme foundry plugin; or can be updated due to being in the WordPress theme repository (e.g., free themes).

Most commercial themes on ThemeForest and commercial plugins don’t have an “auto update” feature, and generally this is a BAD idea — for example, if people had done auto update from NP4 to NP6, and woken up to find their site broken, that would not have been good.

Similarly some plugins may change settings and require workarounds and/or a perfect example is Yoast who “updated” their old wp meta plugin, by disabling it without telling people it would disable it, even though it still worked. Then printed message on screen – “we’ve discontinued this plugin, please upgrade to Yoast SEO” — well, on one site we didn’t want to do that and had to revert to the original meta plugin. Ouch!

Envato tried to build a theme updater for their themes and you can certainly try that. But often it’s best to review the changelog and see what changed so that you don’t wipe your child theme changes if there is major child theme update, or reset your home page if VC changes, etc.

For example an auto updater today might update the entire theme by deleting old folder and any customizations, and upload new one; when only thing changed was Visual Composer update for security issue. So, today only update it the VC plugin which can be done manually via FTP.

So, while it sounds like a good idea — in practice, it’s really not that advisable.

Hope that made sense — not trying to be contrary, just some feedback from using WP for 10 years and having a lot of cock ups from “auto updates” — we turn them ALL off for our sites due to too many site crashes in middle of the night without warning, or CPU spikes crashing entire box due to a bad plugin (e.g., YOAST, often has major bugs every damn dot upgrade then rushes out 3 rounds of “oops” fixes…. seriously… never install that on “new dot upgrade” — it’s a bad bad idea!). 🙂

Hi,

That is because just visual composer was updated due to security issues with the previous version. No other changes were made. You can update only the visual composer plugin with the file provided and your content will remain unchanged.

Thank you!

Hi,

Please disable all your plugins. Leave just visual composer active because it is required by the theme. Try to remove the image and add it again in full size.
If the problem is still there, send us an email with your login info at contact@tagdiv.com so we can take a look and see what is going on. Also paste in a link to this topic so we know who you are.

Thank you!

Hi,

Not sure what cause this, but I also see that you don’t have menus like Chris stated above. The theme is tested with Seo by Yoast plugin and should not be any issues with titles. Also I have checked the page source of one of your posts and the title meta is ok, without Close text – http://screencast.com/t/JpOG8HmEb
So I guess google is changing your title or your page is not indexed. You could try to disable your plugins except of Visual Composer and Seo by Yoast, clear cache and wait a while for google to re-index your page.
Also it could be an issue using special character(like in your case @) in seo title, unfortunately we did not tested this and you can open a ticket to the plugin support and ask them if it possible to use @.

Thanks!

Hello Navito,

The easiest way is to use the blog page: http://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/blog/
In order to do this you have to set your homepage to ‘your latest posts’: http://screencast.com/t/60dfnITGbuXM
Or you can create your own blog page using visual composer like this one: http://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/homepage-blog/ – and set it either as a homepage or as a menu item.
I hope this helps.

Thank you!

Hi,

Please disable all the plugins except of Visual Composer, clear cache and check if you still have this issue. If the issue persist, try to disable lazy load feature as the script could be in conflict with a plugin you use.
Also please provide your site url so we can take a look.

Thanks!

You might start with the docs — see link right side of this page … which has a tutorial on how the home page is setup, how the modules work, etc.

Good overview of how Visual Composer works:

Likely best way to see what modules are in the theme is to setup a blank “page” and then launch Visual Composer and look at all the modules — you can load content from any category you want like /articles/ — as we do on one of our websites which is a magazine and has no “news” — e.g., book/movie reviews, fiction, health articles, etc.

Pages are not posts — “pages” are typically referential like “about us” or “privacy” — and “Posts” can be anything from news to articles or fiction or whatever — so you can build layouts in VC to load content by topic from any category — build one section with fiction, build one section with lifestyle, build one section with music reviews — that’s all up to you.

Easy to play with, even build multiple different home page versions and test them by turning one on/off and asking staff to evaluate, etc.

See the theme docs for examples of different modules and “blocks” — and how you might use different ones in your layout; look at the example sites from users; look at the theme demos — all of that can be great idea starters for your layouts!

example of different “block” layouts which can be mixed and matched on your home page layout:
https://forum.tagdiv.com/theme-thumbs/

Hope that helped a little 🙂

Hi,

@gfm1978
– what version of the theme and Visual Composer do you use? If possible please send an email at contact@tagdiv.com , include a link to this conversation and provide wp-admin and ftp access. We will take a look at your configuration, maybe the issue comes from something else.

@meremetia
– some of the old problems were solved in the newer versions of VC, please try the latest version and see if the issue is still there.

Thank you!

Hello Elena,

Please try to disable all your plugins except visual composer. Sometimes plugins can be the cause of a whole bunch of problems. If the problem is still there, provide more details so we can take a look and see what the issue is.

Thank you

Hi,

I’m not really sure what you mean. If you use Visual Composer you can add blocks to display articles from specific category/ies. So you can have different sections on the page, like you can see on our demo – http://screencast.com/t/yhFxt86TzRJhttp://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/
If this is not what you mean please provide more details about what you want to achieve using VC pagebuilder.

Thanks!

Hello,
It takes a bit of custom modification to do it. You can add an extra class on the row in visual composer: http://screencast.com/t/GDM4o7r7OjlN and you can apply styles to that row in CSS.
This is an example on a block 6: http://screencast.com/t/jAT3BC8n4X
You need to target every block you place on your page and set borders to it.
If you cannot manage on your own i suggest you hire a developer to do it for you from sites like studio.envato.com because at the moment we cannot provide any custom work. (We try to help out were we can if it does not involve lots of customization)
I hope this helps
Thank you!

Hi,

I see you use the old theme version, but I’m not sure what you want to edit as I see you use Visual Composer pagebuilder to create your page so you can change the blocks settings if you want.
Please provide more details about this, a screenshot may help.

Thanks!

Hi,

Please make sure you update the Visual Composer plugin to the latest version provided with the theme. What theme version do you use. It should not be any issue if you use the latest version. I’m not sure why you have this issue, only on your computer, please clear cache and also the browser cache. If the issue persist check the error.log file and also you console for errors.

Thanks!

Hi

Thanks @Chris S and @doucare1971 for your answers!

@james82104
the theme use the WordPress registration system, so I don’t think this issue is related with the theme. Try to deactivate all plugins except Visual Composer, clear all caches and test again.

Let us know how it goes.
Thanks!

Hi,

@FrozenGod
Do you use Wigetised Sidebar block for your homepage, but it doesn’t change it? – http://screencast.com/t/W5xkPKmRjp
Also for post pages, if you use a custom sidebar for category template, the post will inherit that sidebar – http://screencast.com/t/koUf5vkxK
Please check this like Christopher suggested, without any plugins active except of Visual Composer, clear cache and see if you still have this issue.
If the issue persist please send an email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide wp-admin access so we can take a look, also paste a link to this topic so we can know who you are and what your issue is.

Thanks!
