Hi,
Optimizing a wordpress website for the best possible score can take a lot of time. Especially for mobile, where it’s more strict.
I believe you are using mod pagespeed, I very rarely see it anymore. These days the best possible combo for performance is considered Cloudflare and WP Rocket. However, you current results aren’t bad at all. I tested the website now and it’s 82 on mobile -> https://pagespeed.web.dev/analysis/https-actugeekgaming-com/c9aa1kj7cl?form_factor=mobile
What the theme offers for mobile is mobile pages. This means using a mobile version of the desktop page, same as on this demo -> https://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper_pro/
A mobile page has it’s own content, header, footer. Usually there is a difference from using the responsive desktop page versus using a mobile page, favoring the mobile page. You could test it, create a mobile page -> https://prnt.sc/R8zzwvtFsb50 and create the header and footer -> https://prnt.sc/Lj7X4dZfzP9v Also reduce or simplify the elements in the page as much as possible. Then clear the cache and repeat the test.
Thank you!
I just installed newsmag and i am having hard time customizing it. I imported the demo template but it looked nothing like the demo i imported. I have tried every possible trick i could think of but nothing. Now i read that there is something called tag div cloud library on the theme’s plugin section but i don’t seem to see it on mine. Please i need assistant. Thanks
Hi,
First of all, thank you for your previous reply regarding Flex Blocks and background images.
I’m trying to optimize my website as much as possible for Google’s Core Web Vitals, especially on mobile, and I’d like to make sure I’m using Newspaper in the best possible way.
My website is:
https://actugeekgaming.com/
My latest PageSpeed report:
https://pagespeed.web.dev/analysis/https-actugeekgaming-com/aomr1s8vst?form_factor=mobile
At the moment my mobile score is around 50–60, and I’d like to improve it significantly while keeping Newspaper if possible.
Here is what I’ve already done:
Removed the homepage video background.
Replaced the hero section with a normal image.
Optimized all featured images.
Enabled WP Super Cache.
Enabled Jetpack CDN.
Upgraded to PHP 8.2.
Removed unnecessary plugins.
Added preload for the LCP image.
Contacted support regarding Flex Blocks using CSS background images.
I understand that Flex Blocks use background images by design, and you’ve suggested creating a custom Module Builder template using an element instead.
Before rebuilding my homepage, I would like to ask a few questions:
1) What are the official Newspaper recommendations for achieving the best possible Mobile PageSpeed score?
2) Which homepage modules or blocks are the most performance-friendly?
Are Flex Blocks still recommended for the first visible section, or would you recommend using a Module Builder layout instead?
3) Are there any Newspaper or TagDiv Composer settings that should be disabled to improve Core Web Vitals?
4) Do you have a performance optimization guide specifically for Newspaper?
5) Do you know of any websites using Newspaper that consistently achieve 85–90+ Mobile PageSpeed scores?
If so, could you share a demo or explain what makes them different?
6) Apart from replacing Flex Blocks, is there anything else inside Newspaper that commonly hurts LCP or overall mobile performance?
My goal isn’t simply to increase the PageSpeed score, but to build a fast, modern news website while continuing to use Newspaper.
Thank you very much for your advice!
Hi,
So the theme is installed, but after you activate it the error happens? I’m checking your website now and it seems to function correctly. I see the theme is installed, and a theme demo was also installed. Did you perhaps solve the problem? If there are still issues let me know.
Thank you!
I’m currently redesigning a news website that I manage, and I’ve run into an issue.
No matter what I try, I can’t change the color of the post titles in the news blocks using TagDiv Composer.
For example, I select Block 21, go to the General tab, and set the Title Text Color to white (#ffffff). I save the changes, but the new color is not applied on the frontend.
I’ve already checked whether there’s a CSS class or custom style overriding this setting, but I haven’t been able to find anything that would prevent the color change.
I’m using Newspaper theme version 12.7.7 with the Magazine PRO demo installed.
Could you please help me identify what might be causing this issue?
Thank you in advance for your help!
From what version did you update? Is this the main website? -> https://tbrnewsmedia.com/ That’s Newspaper 4, from 2014. This changes things. Those aren’t old shortcodes, they are very old shortcodes, they don’t exist in the theme anymore unfortunately.
My suggestion is to consider using a new homepage. If you want to keep it simple, I suggest the default demo -> https://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/ This is the non-PRO version. These non-PRO demos rely on the theme panel settings and templates.
You can also import just a homepage, they are available separately -> https://cloud.tagdiv.com/#/load/All It can be done from the cloud library dashboard -> https://prnt.sc/gmxEkzRSHmY1
Or you can choose any of the theme demos, if you maybe want to update the design -> https://demo.tagdiv.com/select_demo/newspaper-prebuilt-websites/?demo-type=all
The PRO demos are fully built with our composer, meaning you can edit and customize the homepage and also the post template, category template, etc. with the composer -> https://tagdiv.com/live-visual-builder/
We can discuss more, let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you!
Hi,
I can’t quite tell what that image is exactly. Did you install a theme demo? Either way, if it’s not set per category in the theme panel -> https://prnt.sc/bBQzZ9jBxVh8 then it must be set somewhere in the composer.
Could you provide a link to the website so I can check where the image is set? Or if you want you can send an email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide the link, and admin access, this way I can check and remove it as well.
Thank you!
Hi,
Some demos have a few demo ads in the pages and in the templates, these are set directly with the composer, not in the theme panel. However, the ads can easily be removed, it’s just a matter of editing the homepage and the templates with the composer, and removing the ad boxes, for example -> https://prnt.sc/CaMZmcdhgXpT
If the ads appear to be loading but then they disappear, maybe you are using an ad blocker in the browser. Do the ads appear if you check in incognito mode or with a different browser?
If you want I can take a look and remove the ads, you can send us an email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide a link to the website and admin login (user and pass).
Thank you!
That standard post template is not actually meant to be used on the website, except temporarily for the situation when there is no post template set. The backup standard template has no customization options.
I believe you installed this theme demo -> https://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper_downtown_pro/ On your website I see that except the homepage you are no longer using any of the templates provided with the demo, like the header, footer, post template, category template. This is fine, you can use the templates you want.
The post template that comes with that demo is this one -> https://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper_downtown_pro/2022/03/08/the-scars-of-war-will-remain-there-for-life-published-study-finds/ If you want to use a different post template, it’s perfectly possible. And if you want it to look like the backup standard template, you could use this one -> https://cloud.tagdiv.com/#/single/single/Single/11 Please import it on the website -> then customize it with the composer and set it globally.
Using a cloud post template will replace the standard backup post template, which is normal. But you can easily customize the cloud post template adn make it look as you want. I can help as well, let me know.
Thank you!
Hi,
No problem.
1. That’s possible. The active color for the links in the mobile menu can be set in the theme panel -> https://prnt.sc/JCEFjWULjfqE
2. Are you referring to the socials displayed in the mobile menu? If so, that isn’t possible unfortunately.
If you want to customize the mobile menu more, or in detail, then you could use a popup instead. Like we use on some of the demos -> https://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper_urban_observer_pro/ On mobile the menu is a popup. A popup can be set to open a page which you can build with the composer. Then you could add the social icons in that page, and change the order of the socials -> https://prnt.sc/YnyOx4ivkzlV While it is more work, sometimes using a popup instead of the regular mobile menu can be useful.
If you want to know more about popups there is a guide here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/modal-popup/
Thank you!
Actually that demo uses two headers. They should both appear in the cloud library dashboard, for example -> https://prnt.sc/ai3_p1GizDYY I should have mentioned this before.
There’s an overlay header, used just for the homepage I believe, and a regular header used for the rest of the website.
An overlay header means it is displayed over part of the content, and it’s usually transparent.
You could use just one header if you want or if it’s better for your website. To make the homepage use the global header instead of the special overlay header, while editing the homepage with the composer please set the global template here -> https://prnt.sc/I2g_blW_UFSd
To explain how that works, you can have different headers if you want, per page. A page can either use the global header, or a specific header if it’s set here -> https://prnt.sc/mcE-54JaWjw_
Please let me know in case there are further issues.
Thank you!
Is there any way to create a post that refreshes itself in the background every minute—for example, using Ajax technology—or you can click and it will refresh—as done here:
https://soledaddemo.pencidesign.net/soledad-sport-news-2/2025/01/31/the-rise-of-college-football-powerhouses-whos-dominating-the-landscape/
Hi,
You could just use a popup, instead of a menu that was designed to be used on mobile devices.
For example we use popups on many of our more recent demos, the popups can contain anything and they can open from any side of the page.
Like in this demo -> https://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper_liberty_case_pro/ That hamburger menu from the header is a popup. The popup is set to open a page from the website, which can be built with the composer and can contain basically anything.
There are many other popup examples if you want me to provide them. My suggestion is to consider using a popup, it’s not difficult to set up -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/modal-popup/ and in my opinion it’s easier than limiting the mobile menu width and making sure it looks good across all devices.
Let me know if I can help with it.
Thank you!
Hi,
Changing the logo should be a matter of minutes. Please let me know what kind of issues you are facing when changing the logo.
Some of the theme demos use image logos, some text logos, some SVG logos, or combinations of these. These default logos can be removed and replaced. If you installed a theme demo please mention which one it is, and I will check what kind of logo it uses. Or provide a link to your website, so I can see what kind of header you are using on it and provide instructions for changing the logo.
Let me know and I will help as much as I can.
Thank you!
Hi,
That’s possible.
The “tdcpt_app_listing” is the name of the post type the demo uses. If you edit it in the ACF plugin -> https://prnt.sc/ryndg5HxDPtr there is an option to set a custom permalink, for example -> https://prnt.sc/3DODXkqxVQS2
Then there are three taxonomies for the post type, “tdtax_app_category”, “tdtax_app_location”, “tdtax_app_tag”.
To change these as well, edit each in the ACF plugin -> https://prnt.sc/R3xYanWHtdKz and set a custom permalink -> https://prnt.sc/YgzZc1d_yp4J Do the same for the other two.
After customizing them all, in case there are 404 errors when you visit a listing or a taxonomy page, press the save permalinks button and check again -> https://prnt.sc/8DjdK9BVBwOI and they should work fine.
Please try it.
The alternative to doing this, is to create your own post type and taxonomies, with the names you want. This is a bit more complicated as it will require a few more adjustments to rest of the demo, but it is an option.
Thank you!
Hi,
That’s a simple block, not a slider. Blocks don’t have true sliding capabilities unfortunately, they only have pagination options -> https://prnt.sc/wuu8LszLGnBe
If you need an actual slider, you could use the slide element -> https://prnt.sc/evpx-6PZVZhh
Or try the revolution slider included with the theme -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/import-revolution-sliders-on-demos-prebuilt-websites/
Thank you!
Only cloud templates can have mobile versions. There is no way to have different templates desktop vs mobile in other ways unfortunately.
The post template you are using now is the default standard template, meaning this one -> https://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/wordpress-news-magazine-charts-the-most-fashionable-new-york-couples-in-2016/
The equivalent cloud template for it is this one -> https://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper_pro/wordpress-news-magazine-charts-the-most-chic-and-fashionable-women-of-new-york-city/
They look pretty similar.
So you could just import the cloud template that looks similar -> https://cloud.tagdiv.com/#/single/single/Single/11 and with minimal customization the cloud template will look very close to the default template. And then you can have a mobile version for it.
Thank you!
Hi,
I can explain.
Sometimes our design team wanted to use some extra effects for various elements from demos. Such effects couldn’t be created with theme options, to they were built custom.
The classes you mention are indeed present in this demo https://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper_trucking_services_pro For example on some columns https://prnt.sc/ZjADy–26a9A
Those classes don’t work by themselves, they are connected to these this Raw CSS element lower in the page -> https://prnt.sc/kkGB84ADbozw and this Raw HTML element right below it -> https://prnt.sc/wpTeaTd0ziQO They are kind of hard to see there. So because of those two elements the classes work. If you want to use those classes somewhere else, those two elements have to be copied in that page as well.
Or, you could try the options we added in the meantime for such animations. Every element has them -> https://prnt.sc/-5shRJCz9Ccy
Let me know if you have more questions.
Thank you!
Hi,
Everything from the demo should be RTL, it should look exactly as on our live demo. Please provide a link to the website so I can check the issue.
Thank you!
Hi,
Such things are not actually issues. As you can see, we provide a multitude of post templates, each with different designs and layouts -> https://cloud.tagdiv.com/#/load/Single Some display a smaller featured image, some display a larger featured image. And of course, any of them can be customized with the composer to achieve the desired result. You can also make your own post template if you want.
On your website I see you are currently using a default backup post template. I believe you used to use a standard template before, which looked like this for example https://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/15-grooming-techniques-every-man-needs-to-know/ Isn’t there an error on your post pages when you are logged in as an admin?
Please activate this plugin -> https://prnt.sc/7FllpDqBdZ2K It is required if you used the standard templates on your website.
Thank you!
Hi,
The theme ad spots are usually for ads, they can be any type of ads. But they could be used to display other things if needed.
For example in pages you can place ad boxes -> https://prnt.sc/AeKBgu11QDHF and select a spot -> https://prnt.sc/VM1dxB54O39L which displays content from the theme panel -> https://prnt.sc/_kAwiKZ_je0W
It depends on what you want to do exactly. If you want to display something related to businesses, and the information is added by the business owner when they submit their information on their website, then it depends on how you are collecting that information. If you end up using the frontend submission plugin that I mentioned, it should have options to create the submission form as needed, with custom fields as well. So you collect the information, and then you display it.
Our other theme, Newspaper, has frontend submission of it’s own, for example you can check the directory demos https://demo.tagdiv.com/select_demo/newspaper-prebuilt-websites/?demo-type=directory These all have one or more custom post types and content submission bases on subscription.
In case I misduerstood your question please correct me.
Thank you!
I’m new to Newspaper so please bear with my newbie question. I am rebuilding my site utilizing the Revenant demo. However, there are elements from the Aniglobe demo I would like to use. I assume that I could download the element directly onto the page, but this doesn’t seem to be the case as clicking on the Import Element button renders nothing on the page. Any idea what I might be doing wrong?
Thanks in advance.
Hi,
From what I can tell there are issues with that article. The review meta tags which normally are inside the article and the product schema, are outside after the article. So Google detects that the review is for the webpage -> https://prnt.sc/du8l2pQKOWm9 and not as it should be for a product -> https://prnt.sc/h1UYqRZgwLq6
Here is how it should be https://search.google.com/test/rich-results/result/r%2Freview-snippet?id=yKrxoQ-bP9nBzvPQzXsLlA
So for example on a demo post for a review, the product meta tags are inside the article -> https://prnt.sc/XCiDHqj5m7hV before the closing article tag. In the post you mentioned those are after it -> https://prnt.sc/8vCiKub7T3i3 I think that’s why it happens. Maybe there’s some invalid HTML in the post content.
I could be wrong. I don’t think I’ve seen something like this before. Are there other review posts that have this same issue or is it just this one?
Thank you!
Hi,
You could use the image info box element instead https://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper_crypto/image-info-box/
It has an option to display an image, a title, a description, and a button with a link over the image. You could give it a try.
Thank you!
Hi,
The logos must be changed with the composer https://forum.tagdiv.com/add-logo-newspaper/
So for example if you edit the homepage with the composer -> https://prnt.sc/ZGIbsCY7sfgP and click on the logo, you can remove the default demo text logo -> https://prnt.sc/wUaH5M_BUiU0 and set your own. You can use a text logo, or an image logo, or a SVG.
Or is there a problem with the composer? You mentioned that it isn’t working. If the composer isn’t working on your website, I will take a look at the issue. In this case you can send us an email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide admin login for the website, and I will investigate as soon as possible.
Thank you!
