I’m trying to change the homepage around a bit. I installed the travel demo, but I’m having trouble understanding how to choose which categories to feature, and how to change the picture on the top… Can I edit whats there? Or do I have to create my own structure?

You have to search and replace them in the database, use a plugin like – https://wordpress.org/plugins/better-search-replace/
Before you try this backup the database manually or use a plugin – https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups
The following shortcodes were changed:

I have setup my homepage to have two sidebars and both are smart sidebars via VC but the social counter one has no title and the popular categories does not have a title but in the VC they are there. So why are they not showing on the actual sidebars on homepage? I am not using widgetized sidebar just the blocks from VC.
Do I have to use widgetized sidebar for all titles to show? I tried the widgetized sidebar for two sidebars but the second widgetized sidebar would not be a smart sidebar for some reason. So I did it with just the blocks instead for both sidebars instead of two widgetized sidebars. Hope you understand.
I created a field in Advanced Custom Fields plugin and tinkered with loop-single.php and added the code
<p><?php the_field('price'); ?></p>
And it showed up, Great! but that was just a test.
Could you please guided me where I can insert it after the excerpt on the blocks on my homepage (blocks 4 and 5) and of course the category and tag pages. Is that the archive template?
Also would you have any handy css code that I can play with and adjust the style, perhaps something to start me off with…

I just installed Newspaper 6.4 and I’m thrilled about the Travel Demo style. However, can someone please give me the image dimensions for the header image used on the homepage of the demo (the camel with beach huts and skyscrapers in the background)?
So far I’ve tried 1235×524 but when I follow the instructions given here on the forums, the result is somewhat blurred.
I would like my image to remain as sharp as the Travel Demo shown here: http://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper_travel/

Notice that the two aren’t of the same sharpness (and I know a little bit about image sharpness, because I’m a photographer and I regularly prepare my images for web and print).

I have a homepage with block 4 and 5’s on it.
I notice block 12 has a read more button.
Could someone please guide me to modyfing these blocks and the archives blocks too.
Basically I want to add a “price” field to the image/excerpt.
I assume I set up a custom field for each post, field being “price” and each post I enter the price in that field, one post may be $99 another $114 etc.

Some of the features of Newspaper theme are not working properly and I don’t have any idea why it is happening. Details are as below.

Issue – 1. Big Slide Not Working – (Not Sliding).
2. Slider Not Working – (Not Sliding).
3. More Stories Box on the Articles pages not Closing – (Cut Button Not Working).
4. On the Homepage of the site in the Category based latest articles the ‘Next & Previous options not working – ( ‘< >’ – Not Working).
These are the issues I am facing right now. You can visit the homepage of the blog to check the errors and some articles to check that ‘More Stories Box’ also not working.
Kindly, help me out in resolving this issue as soon as possible.

To put a border around the thumbs from homepage you can use custom css and target their specific classes. The css must be added in theme panel > custom css: http://screencast.com/t/WFIzbqIp6yfF

For images from post content the css could be like this:

I have used the Ajax Filter function for Block 14 (on my homepage, under “Travel” and I filtered by Categories (Busan, Seoul, Jeju). I’ve also used pagenization with 6 posts per page. Every thing works well except for the page transition. I’d like to have a more “fade in” kind of transition instead of the current one which the next page just drops down. Is it possible to customize the page transition styles on Ajax Filter? I have noticed that in Newspaper6 Fashion Demo the transition is smooth.

Yesterday I updated our site http://www.stratego.hr to v2.2, and after that I can’t see images on homepage. I tried it on various browsers, but the problem still occurs. I did all the things I could remember: delete cache, disabled lazy load,… Funny thing, there is no problem when approaching site on mobile phones.
Any ideas what to do?

nice topic, I’ve been trying to learn more about it.
When you guys say “move to https” do you mean that your website will be exclusively https and http will no longer be available?
I did nothing like you and so I’m a bit apprehensive, although my point in having https was to “secure” just a small part of the site like wp-admin, logins and the store.
I did not change WP_HOME/SITEURL, just added define(‘FORCE_SSL_ADMIN’, true), so I guess wordpress is oblivious to connection. WP supercache creates static pages for https as well and performance seems unaffected. Site operates apparently well: I’m on http, click the login link and it goes https, I login and it throws me back to http afterwards. I browse the site, it stays http, and if I click in the edit my profile link for example, it switches me back to https, login session is always kept.
No mixed contents so far, padlock goes green. I plan to move my images to a subdomain and the SSL certificate only covers the domain. Tested a redirect from subdomain to domain folder and the padlock was green too. I also use cloudflare in strict mode: server <ssl> cloudflare <ssl> user
Ranking in google looked the same to me, it’s a fairly new site and it was growing slowly but steadily and still is. I ranked a few 1st places (regionally) in small subjects and even ranked a major one recently!
Again, as I know little about this and I’m probably doing big time shit, google tried to sort things out. It doesn’t rank both versions of the site, it chooses one. Everything’s http, except for the homepage and what google thinks its sensitive, like the wc cart page for example. Curiously, I have a page called “online reservations”, no online reservations are made whatsoever it’s just an article about it. Google ranks it https :). And google mix those because, regionally, my site gets that submenu under the search result and those sub-entries are either http or https accordingly to google’s criteria.
Cart page is fine and all that but I think I’d rather have the home page raking as http. Should I use a redirect or use webmastertools to exclude https version?
Any notes on this will be highly appreciated, it’s a topic I’m pretty noob at and we gotta learn everyday, thanks guys!

You need to add a redirect for those case when the theme folder: blog/wp-content/themes/Newsmag/ is accessed directly and redirect it to the homepage. Try a redirect plugin for that like: https://wordpress.org/plugins/seo-redirection/ or similar.
You don’t need to repurchase the theme, it’s just an update so log into your themeforest account then go the downloads section, you find the latest theme version there, download it and update it using the update guide.

The theme doesn’t have an option to set a different page for mobiles, sorry. We plan to improve the mobile theme in a future update but for now i cannot say when this will be implemented. As i understand you need to use the “your latest posts” homepage which uses the index.php file but with a different layout, one resembling newsmag homepage. This requires some custom modifications which we cannot provide. But i can point you in the right direction:
You will need a bit of PHP knowledge to do this.
You can use a function: <?php echo do_shortcode(''); ?> in your index.php file below the like so: http://screencast.com/t/D092zLsbJtq. (You need to add it to that specific container or it will lose its styling.)
Inside the shortcode function you will place the visual composer shortcodes you see in classic mode: http://screencast.com/t/g0C1VpiMWA – http://screencast.com/t/g0C1VpiMWA.
It should llok like this: <?php echo do_shortcode('[vc_row][vc_column][td_block_2][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][td_block_15][/vc_column][/vc_row]'); ?>.
This will bring the blocks from visual composer to your index page.

I set my homepage to display some blocks only in mobile view, with VC, it work fine but it doesn’t show new content because i set to enable unique articles, i need to disable unique article so the mobile view show latest posts. Any help please.

We just imported content from the Ning.com platform to WordPress and then added the Newspaper theme. All is working great except that the featured images (of posts) on the homepage (or any main category page) are showing up blank (see below image). We believe they are blank because the lead images we imported were not linked to larger images. Now if you click on the post, the first non-linked image appears in the blog. It just doesn’t get set as the featured image thumbnail on the homepage, etc.
Is there anyway to have the theme grab the first image automatically from the blog post and use it as the thumbnail preview? We have thousands of blog posts, so it needs to be something we do with code and not by hand. There is an auto-post thumbnail plugin that will set the first image as the thumbnail, but it also means it will duplicate the lead image in the article. Any help?
