Presuming you regenerated your thumbnails?
You have tons of things you need to deal with since you’re loading everything and the kitchen sink … e.g.,

Are you using Revolution Slider ? If not, disable the plugin – do so for ALL plugins you don’t actually use.

You’re loading a HUGE amount of stuff from Google, Doubleclick, Facebook, Twitter, wp.com tracking pixel, etc.

For faster speed, you need to load less stuff and optimize what you do load!

I already use that since last year,it’s a very good plugin because it removed all those old images sizes from old theme and build new images for the current theme your using…

regenerate thumbnails works well for me …
we had a site with 10,000+ images (launched in Dec 2005 on WordPress), and the “regenerate thumbnails” plugin worked well.

We also used Auto Post Thumbnail PRO for the ooooold content first time to get a featured image and/or default featured image for really old stuff with TINY images.

Make sure you up your base memory limit in the wp-config.php file (WP defaults to 40MB, but really needs 128 or 256 these days), and make sure you backup your old image folder if you want to keep a safe copy of that (which, ahem, you should be doing periodically anyway).

If you want to do best practice:

a) check the sizes of the new layout and “know” which sizes you plan to use for your modules
b) change the 3 small/medium/large sizes in the WP media settings to match 3 most common; but make sure large is not larger than size files you plan to upload
c) look in the NEW theme panel at the modules image sizes control, and turn OFF the sizes you don’t plan to use (note possible need for the preview image in search box!)
d) regenerate thumbnails

make some coffee while that’s running. 🙂

not nonsense. When you change major themes where image sizes changes, old modules are deprecated, new modules added to FIT NEW LAYOUT, etc. — then guess what, you need to ADJUST things to new site layout.

I think you have VERY unrealistic expectations on how WordPress works, and how themes work.

If you move to a new theme, the NEW theme cannot make your new site work exactly like the old site — show me a video of a theme doing that for you, otherwise your comment is more nonsense than mine. Not to be argumentative, but perhaps when you get more experienced with WordPress you’ll know better.

Cheers. When you change to NEW THEME, which NP6 is, you will have to make adjustments.

They have done great job of helping make this as painless as technically possible.

A theme cannot regen all your images, a theme cannot create new modules on your homepage and change your layouts in VC automatically – not everybody is using 100% identical layout — that is why you can customize it. Custom means unique. When things change in the foundation of the code — with good programming — this means block/modules and custom layouts need to be adjusted as widths, grids, image sizes have changed.

Right .. well it’s a new theme not a dot update; all the grids, layouts, images CHANGED.

You need to regenerate your thumbnails to fit new layout, hence all the resize image errors seen in the GTMetrix check. Also need to update any tagdiv plugins, clear server side cache if using one, etc.

Optimize that one image which is 23KB too large (see the report link for which one).

When you change themes you need to regenerate thumbnails to fit the new modules/layouts/sizes.

Theme can’t do that for you, unfortunately.

Again, this is a major UPGRADE — this means new grid, new options, new code, new features, new options in panel for images, new tools for sticky sidebar. Hence the version number jump. It’s NOT an “update” to old version. It’s a brand NEW theme, so obviously some things won’t work moving to new version — note the “changelog” in the download — which you should *ALWAYS* read before updating ANY theme with WordPress.

For those who can’t find my “sticky” guide to updating, note at the TOP of the forum, there are couple of posts that “stick there” — including my little guide to WordPress optimization; as well as “how to move to another theme” — which is based on 9 years of suffering WP updates and is the “safe” way to do this process.

Again … this is a major UPGRADE … not a minor dot update. As with all MAJOR changes, you WILL need to make changes to your site to work with what is new. An old module that fit old layout won’t work with new layout as sizes are different, etc.

Give them a couple of days to shore up the documentation for new version.

You are under *no* obligation to update/upgrade your site — it’s not necessary ever — only do so if you want all the new features. Updating just for sake of there being an update doesn’t make sense unless you weigh the risks and benefits of doing so and have time to adjust site for what had CHANGED with NEW VERSION.

This may not help anybody, but just adding some input for those who might be totally freaking out right now 🙂

Also be aware sometimes no ad is served by adsense if their system times out.

In your adsense account you can specify a fallback image such as site logo with link to subscribe page or whatever, so that when no ad served you don’t have blank spot.

You can also review their recommendations for your site in AdSense to serve only the sizes and locations they “recommend” for your particular site to increase conversions and clicks for better revenue.

I don’t know a lot about Joomla but it doesn’t matter much which is superior, matters which one lets you make something superior. There’s more than the car, there’s also the driver and that’s why you are here trying to learn how to drive wordpress. I’m not defending wordpress over joomla, I just don’t want to say that something is worst when in reality I don’t even know it that well.

About images and thumbnails, yes they can get messy. If you don’t want image resizing (thumb generation) just go to options and set the sizes of thumbnails to 0x0 (zero), voilá, no more image generation. This has the downside of making your visitors download the original images all the time, even if all they are seeing is a thumbnail of them. Making thumbnails will create an image of 2KB to show a 100×65 thumbnail but people are free to serve a 70KB 700×357 image that will be displayed 100×65 anyway, downsized only pixel-wise and not KB-wise.

One thing though: You’ll see 3 thumbnail sizes in WP options but that doesn’t mean that your WP makes only 3 thumb regens, if some plugin or theme registers a new size, that new size will be created and you won’t see it in the options. Woocommerce “installs” 3 thumb sizes regenerations for example, and bam! suddenly you have 10000+ images in your media folder because every upload will be multiplied 6 or more times!

In that regard, this theme could get a bit of optimization. This theme is very beautiful but has lots of blocks, sliders, galleries and what not. So this theme registers a boatload of thumb sizes regens to fit all those blocks. After a while I figured out which blocks and sliders I prefer to use and those I don’t and so I commented out all those thumb regens I don’t use. This should be done, if possible, before running a plugin like thumbnail regeneration or all thumb sizes registered will be regenerated.

PS: support is always answering questions at the forum (during work time ofc, shown top right) but you can try e-mail, they are quick to respond, I wasn’t even their client yet and they answered pretty quick.

You need to regenerate thumbnails for your site once theme is installed to generate all the various sizes for the blocks/modules. You should not use the demo data for a live or real website, only for testing or client demo (speaking as a 20 year webdev myself).

You can of course simply upload images via FTP if you don’t plan to use them as ‘featured’ images — for ‘featured’ images you generally need to upload those via the media manager or use a third party solution/plugin (e.g., bulk uploader to media manager).

For questions about how to use WORDPRESS — which is not part of the theme — you should of course check the millions of pages of help on the web via Google, and of course the WordPress CODEX .. often you can do searches like “image upload wordpress codex” to find help quickly.

You can change the default upload directory, and you can turn off the upload by /month/day/ options easily.

Obviously you should expect the TagDiv support folk to educate you on how the basics of WordPress actually works — only elements related to using the theme. Image uploading is part of WordPress and not a “theme” function, per se.

I don’t work here – so just some feedback while you wait for official reply 🙂

You can modify how images are “cropped” — but you will need to “hack” some settings; there is no consistent way to ensure all images are “cropped perfectly” as all are different — as are all photos. So, some might get top chopped off, some might get bottom chopped off. To have images be “perfect” for all shapes and sizes of thumbs you would likely need to create your original images very carefully to have appropriate spacing on all sides so you end up with a “safe area.”

For example you could edit the functions file in the tagdiv booster folder to change the default crop direction for a specific thumbnail size following the settings for WordPress, as found in the official docs … e.g., you could have “crop from top, left” or “crop from bottom, right” .. etc.

TagDiv can point you at the right file to edit in the theme folder, to experiment with.

Block settings are not included with the Newspaper theme; nor advertised to have them, nor shown in the demo; but will be supposedly coming in Newspaper v5. Obviously you can’t somehow “add” that admin panel from another theme to this one — doesn’t work that way. However, that feature most likely will be in Newspaper 5 coming next month (hopefully). Remember theme docs for Newsmag do *not* apply to Newspaper — two different themes!

OK I have been able to resize the logo in the Style sheet file but can not find which media number to edit down to 468 width.

I have enterred the google adsense code for a 468 pixel wide ad but site automatically resizing to the larger 768.

Can you please advise exactly where to edit the style sheet so ad sizes down to the desired 468.

Here is what I see right now.

Did you try to ‘regenerate’ your thumbnails ? This is often necessary when some elements of a theme change markedly and some modules/sizes change. Your site may have had temporary versions of the new sizes, and they no longer exist due to how your files are stored (e.g., CDN, Jetpack, etc.).

Try the “regenerate thumbnails” plugin. If your images need to be make larger, not supported by WP, add the “thumbnail upscale” plugin first; then run the regen plugin. (Both are free plugins, and essentials.)

If you’re using Photon from Jetpack this is common issue with theme updates and you need to refresh that. Theme has no control over how your images stored on Jetpack or other CDN cloud systems.

For the small/medium/large — set them to the module sizes you plan to use the most.

For the featured image in post, we’ve chosen to do everything 640xXX with 640×400 being typical, but for movie reviews, for instance with widescreen stuff those are 640×280.

Some suggestions
a) don’t use child theme, as it’s a redirect
b) ensure you have caching running on server like opcache, etc.
c) be sure to use normal WP optimizations (as per my own optimization sticky) — enough memory allocated to php, and upgrade default RAM for WP in wp-config.php -etc.
d) limit queries on post pages — meaning, avoid “most popular 7 days” kinds of things, try one query of “latest 5 stories” vs having three sidebar queries of 3 latest posts from 3 categories; try not using mega-menu to query dbase for story elements .. limit queries in footer
e) remove CSS over-rides in theme panel, move to style.css
f) consider using things like mod_pagespeed and or mod_SPDY if you serve all pages via https
g) turn off image thumbnail sizes you don’t actually use; plan layouts to limit total number of sizes for thumbs to no more than 5 or 3 if really going for speed
h) check server response time — which has nothing to do with theme and needs server to be optimized (our pages respond in 0.31 secs on avg., regardless of theme with only minor optimizations)

And of course look at some of the theme docs for suggestions from TagDiv on speed/performance.
