Howdy,
I already set up: add_filter( ‘jpeg_quality’, create_function(”, ‘return 50;’ ) ); on my site. Do I (or should I) also need to use something like Smush.it? Or does that compress code suffice?
Thanks!
It’s possible it stopped working due to other conflict like WordPress 4.8.1, Yoast SEO update, WooCommerce update, etc., etc.
Good to check the support topics for that plugin also.
And, of course, check F12 for console errors, turn on the built-in WordPress error log debug function, check your hosting panel for error log, etc. — as good ways to see what is causing hiccups.
Sometimes plugins like ‘autooptimize’ or a CDN or cache plugin setting can break things, too.
Not sure that helps. Just food for thought.
I don’t work here.
Hi Catalin
Please advise an independent professional expert to do the work to optimize my page, please write me to my email pysnnoticias@gmail.com
Thank you
Lots of factors impact those “stats.”
Generally if your site is optimized and loads at the same speed/performance, and with same content, your readers should react same way — regardless of theme ‘version.’
Why would one version cause somebody to stay on your site +/- 60 seconds.
The reason *most* theme devs on 100 different theme foundry sites don’t have much of an answer to this is due to it not being directly theme related unless you have an actual F12 console error, or bug causing page not to load properly — and taking into account that viewer stats are affected during site revamp, especially if not using a custom ‘maintenance mode’ plugin to let viewers know you’re working on site, and that it’s not busted.
For example if you serve busted stuff, it gets cached on mobile, and when somebody comes back to check, they might still get served busted version and leave. A maintenance plugin tells people “hey, we’ll be back soon, once we do some house cleaning…” and so they never get served broken/mish-mash code.
So, take all the sky is falling nonsense on all theme forums with major grain of salt.
Enjoy!
Background image working now. Might have been your caching. 🙂
Consider disabling the lazy load ‘animation’ …
also be sure to
a) optimize dbase (e.g., with WP-Optimize or similar)
b) resave permalinks
this clears micro-caching (transients) with WP
Main tricks
1) limit queries ‘per page’ – use maximum of 3 “module elements” per post/page
2) don’t use mega menu with posts
3) use PHP 5.6 and up with opcache ‘on’
4) optimize WP with things like explicit URLs in wp-config.php file
5) to mitigate hacker/bot overloads
— > disable XMLRPC
— > install ‘limit login attempts’ plugin
This helps a *lot* (!).
Thank you for that information, Atalin. It was the plugin “Autoptimize” that caused the error.
Thanks for your help!
Make sure you update the plugins AND the theme together; delete old folder, don’t ‘overwrite’ old ones.
Clear transients with WP-Optimize plugin
Resave permalinks
Works for me doing that.
(also: make sure you’re using PHP 5.6 or higher; as older versions will not work well with most current WP updates, plugins, code, etc. — and older versions are ‘end of life’ now, esp 5.2/5.3).

1) make sure you properly installed the new theme and related plugins — you need to delete old folders, not simply over-write them; but make backups via FTP first — as ever
2) after update,
– run WP-Optimize plugin to clear transients
– resave permalinks to clear micro transients
3) make sure you clear/reset any caching plugins prior to update/upgrade and afterwards; if not using caching plugin, the 1 and 2 above should help.
That’s what I do anyway. 🙂
Make sure you also delete and update all plugins included with Newspaper, not just the theme!
Clear transients with WP-Optimize
Resave permalinks
Hi Catalin,
I have already read all your guides. And spent serval days trying to get to the bottom of the issue. I have brought a CDN, to help load time and Maxcdn as looked at the site to see why it’s taking over 60seconds to load. WP rocket as also looked at the site and advised I spoke with the theme developer as it is theme related. My developer has also looked at the site and I have also spent several days trying to solve this.
I am not asking you to optimize the site. But to look at whats causing the theme to take 60 seconds to load which is not normal.
Again I have deactivated all plugins, use tag booster, caching plugins, optimize the images. The only thing that works is when I use another theme.
Hello wpmu,
Regarding on page speed, please notice that thing depends on how well your site is optimized. Notice that is not a simple task and if you do not have any experience in this regard you will do not bring good results for the theme. Also, notice that we have a speed optimization tutorial but this is addressed only to advanced users. So, if you follow the steps which are presented in this tutorial here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-make-the-site-faster/ you can increase the page speed loading and if you are not aware of the steps in this regard, please consider hiring a freelancer/developer to help you because the speed optimization services are not covered by our support policy, as you can read here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/support-policy-2/ Check our documentation here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/requirements-for-newspaper/ regarding on dedicated server to fit to our requirements. For an example, you should check our demo preview because this website is optimized.
Thanks for your understanding!
Hi,
It could be a possibility, but I could not provide you an definite answer. Currently an optional mobile theme plugin is included, optimized for performance on mobile devices

TIPS:
for TD Composer, make sure you delete old TDC plugin folder, and upload NEW one — *not* overwrite/merge; after you do that, run the WP-Optimize plugin, AND resave permalinks, this clears all ‘transients’ — and one presumes anybody running a caching plugin is clearing that, disabling, it, etc., prior to any WP updates!
That old video from 2015 shows “Visual Composer” — not “TD Composer” — two different things. TDC was just introduced to provide a faster, more efficient with web server, optimized page builder for those who primarily use it for home page layout, grids on categories, and business page layouts.
See the docs for TD Composer for how that works.
VC and TDC are two entirely different things.
They likely need to update the tutorial page to point at the new TDC stuff !

Hi,
Unfortunately as it is stated above, the theme does not support RTL. Elements of the theme will not display as intended if modifications are made in this regard.
The classes defined in the theme and all the conditions are not optimized for RTL, and this results in broken layouts and problems like the ones you describe.
It would require a lot of work from your part in order to modify the theme to have RTL functionality. Or create custom code to override the theme style.
We cannot provide support in this matter, as it is not a feature of the theme. It would be best if you could search for a different theme that supports this by default, and no modifications necessary.
If you consider this an option, you can request a refund and we will approve it. Then you could build your website with a theme that may support RTL.
Thank you for understanding!
Hi Simon, I was expecting a bit more thorough approach to be honest.
As I mentioned in the initial post – the only change that was one – was upgrade to wordpres to 4.8.
Te problem is actually fixed without restoring anything, please see below the solution. Hope it will help you troubleshoot similar issues with future users complaining about the same thing.
The answer from our hosting support – the problem is evident from the answer.
As per my initial reply I switched the PHP version to 5.6 again and cleared the cache for the website, which immediately had effect as the login page at https://allontario.ca/wp-admin/ started working again without any errors. To test and verify this I created a temporary user for your installation and then managed to successfully log into the dashboard. While there I went to our SG Optimizer plugin -> PHP Config and ran the PHP 7.0 compatibility check, which reported having one plugin out of date and not compatible with PHP 7.0:
Code:
The following plugins/themes are not compatible with PHP 7.0.
WPBakery Visual Composer

Hello Plexus7,
I have inspected your website and I saw that your icons work as expetected. Try to clear all the caches, purge all CDN files if you are using the CDN system and check the results.

Hi,
As a quick fix you can try a code like this
– https://www.screencast.com/t/EUCm7X1kw
Enter it in Theme panel->Advanced CSS in the Phones section
.home .vc_single_image a {
background-size: contain;
}
You have the option to display different ads using the theme panel, and optimize them for particular devices. This is specified in this guide

Thanks
Hi,
If you mean the images stored by wordpress specifically, see this topic
– http://www.wpbeginner.com/beginners-guide/where-does-wordpress-store-images-on-your-site/
There are also plugins that you can use to help optimize wordpress

Thanks
Hello bformhals,
Unfortunately, this type of plugin has not been tested with our theme and also, we cannot say for sure if it will work as expected with the theme or not, sorry!
Also, notice that the speed booster is an optional plugin which can be activated in the same way as you install a new plugin. The Speed Booster works only with the tested plugins. If you use other plugins, it will be automatically disabled, and I suggest to check this first in System Status. However there is a workaround to make it also work with other plugins, you can read more here – https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/speed-booster-not-compatible-with-vaultpress/
Unfortunately, the time doesn’t allow us to provide any custom and optimization services. We provide support only for the theme related issues based on Envato support policy – https://themeforest.net/page/item_support_policy I suggest to get someone to help you if you want to optimize your site.
Thanks for your understanding!

Hi.
Thank you for the feedback. I have not optimized any images in the Newspaper 7 theme. I have imported posts from Newspaper 7 to Newspaper 8 – can that be the reason?
Please respond to these issues as well:
– I would like to remove the author identification on the posts (perhaps I have overlooked a feature)
– I would also like to take away the black-comment symbol showing on the right side of the post
– I am not able to get the logo larger in size without using the max-size feature the new template. The logo also appear more sharp for the previous template (both are png files).
In advance, thank you.
Best,
Glenn
