Hi,
I’m having several problem on my site.
After 4.5 update, i’ve notived that backgroung image was not always displayed on article pages. This can occur when going to main page and clicking on an article link (on Big Slide or Blocks). When refreshing article page, image background shows properly. I’m using Chrome, but users reported problem on Firefox also.
I’m using WP Super Cache and haven’t encountered any cache problem with it since recents theme updates.
Also, but not related to 4.5 update (problem appeared in 4.x can’t remember precisely),sometimes when loading a page, page loads for 1 or 2 sec with another style, and then current style loads properly.
See: http://www.screencast.com/t/q3CtnXoX7Z5t
this is when Style is different during few seconds, might happen on several pages, but not always.
My site:
http://www.fantasy-coach.fr
Thanks for your help
I guessed you didnt use w3 cache. I’ve just improved my score up to 85 and thats with buddypress, bbpress, disqus and a load of others! Used w3 cache, speed booster pack and leverage browser caching ninja. Also use cloudflare. Made some changes to .htaccess too. But dont think i should spend any more time on speeding up as I will buy the new theme once it’s out.
Does anyone know how to speed up the following under leverage browser caching?

Hello,
my web site is http://www.outdoorhaber.com
First issue:
As you will notice the 728px adsense ad at the top doesn’t fit in header. Header alignment doesn’t work, because it also takes the logo up or down when I give -/+ pixels.
Second issue:
I didn’t find open sans latin extended in custom topography section. I noticed this post https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/problem-with-the-font-on-big-slide/ but I don’t get it, why don’t you simply add native latix-extended support to the theme? latin-extended languages are widely used. I don’t want to update functions.php everytime I update the theme. I simply want to select it from a list.
Can you please add open sans latin-extended support from theme interface in the next version.
Until then, can you please tell me which code to add to functions.php in “child theme”
Third issue:
http://www.outdoorhaber.com/north-face-mens-evolution-triclimate-ceket-inceleme/ As you can see here, comments are at the very bottom of the page. How can I take them above “related articles” section ?
Fourth issue:
http://www.outdoorhaber.com/forum/ I want to put different widgets only to bbpress pages. (login widget, etc) how do I do that?
Fifth issue:
http://www.outdoorhaber.com/forum/ Bbpress was Turkish before I switched to newspaper theme, now it is English. What do you think has happened? Can it be something with Newspaper theme? (if not please ignore this issue)
I have other, speed optimization related questions, but let’s leave them for another day. Congratulations for creating such a great, clean theme.
Thanks in advance.
pls refer to the attached snap.
The mobile theme is deactivated.
you can see the visual composer plugin settings so that shouldn’t be an issue either.
i don’t work on JS so don’t know if that’s an issue, still.
deactivated all plugins, other than VC and did all that you listed.
no improvement.
i used this theme and the mega menu successfully on another site, so i’m sure nothing wrong in how i create the menu.
Could you pls look into the matter again and help me out.
OK, I understand.
And now, what If install two Newspaper parent-theme? One in a “Newspaper” folder and the other one in “Newspaper2” folder?
Do they still share the same db?
The final option I see is adding my adsenses codes within the pages but I dislike this option 🙁
Hey Christopher and everyone,
What do you recommend for Ad plugins for Newspaper? I’m torn between AdSanity, AdRotate or Simple Ads Manager.
Are any of these, or others, nicer playing with the Newspaper theme?
I’m a newbie with serving ads on my site. So far, I’ve already got two companies to sign up so I’m having to manage the inventory myself. I’m using Google Calendar and an excel spreadsheet (I know, not very sophisticated).
Anything you like?
Thoughts? Feelings? Reactions?

Hi,
Please use the css like this: http://screencast.com/t/6tMtVC0xSi
@media (max-width: 500px) {
.post .td-post-text-content .alignleft {
float: left !important;
margin-right: 23px !important;
margin-top: 6px !important;
margin-bottom: 6px !important;
max-width: 50px !important;
width: auto !important;
}
}
While checking your site also noticed that your background image isn’t showing: http://screencast.com/t/zbNiN33JH7Zz and noticed that this happens only on pages, on post pages looks fine. If you want you can use this css to add the background on other pages also: http://screencast.com/t/37IlLC7JR
.page {
background-color: #ffffff;
background-image: url('http://www.vitalstrengthblog.com.au/webdev/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Ripped-Background-Hi-Res-C2.jpg');
background-repeat: no-repeat;
background-position: center top;
background-attachment: fixed;
}
Thanks
I can add a custom background for my pages using this css code:
body {
background-image: url(‘http://mysite.com/press/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/blackpaper.png’);
background-color: #121212;
background-size: cover;
background-attachment: fixed;
}
Sample: http://screencast.com/t/j9aStWxzDq
But I can’t seem to do the same for my posts or my “post page” using the same coding.
I have background images off.
And I have used this code to create a custom homepage background than what I want to use for my other pages.
Right now, I am using the above code for my legal pages, and would like to apply the same background to my posts and “post page”.
Thanks for the help!
Hi,
How can i avoid showing the Simular Articles on custom post types other than NewsPaper Theme defined onces?
This defined in Post Settings -> Simular Article -> Show Simular Article yes/no.
I have installed Easy Digital Downloads and the detail page (post-type ‘download’) it also shows the Simular Articles.
Thanks in advance!
Marcellino
Just one question, maybe a fool question.
For using sidebar banners, we have to add a code with 3 images for every screen format, another code to link the URL, add customized ad boxes, etc. It’s not precisably comfortable and it requires a lot of code actions.
What is the difference of doing this or using plugins like these to insert the ad banners in the sidebar?
https://wordpress.org/plugins/black-studio-tinymce-widget/
https://wordpress.org/plugins/responsive-image-widget/
https://wordpress.org/plugins/hw-image-widget/
Thank you in advance.
Juan.
Hi,
Add a condition to the td_module_blog.php file, like this: http://screencast.com/t/olrgJopedZ
Then use the custom ad box 1 from theme panel > ads to place the ad code.
if ($content_part_index == 12){
$content_buffer .= td_global_blocks::get_instance('td_ad_box')->render(array('spot_id' => 'custom_ad_1'));
}
Change “12” as you like.
Thanks
Hey Christopher,
I just tried to make other changes to the theme but none of the changes are saving. Every time I click Save settings it loads forever and the changes don’t update.
What do you think may cause that?
Thanks again!
hi guys i would like to add another ad position in the body of posts, since i think nobody is clicking the sidebar ads i would like to add another body ad, the position that comes with template for button ad is way to low i would like extra ad to be in body. how can i do it?
Hi,
In your case this doesn’t work because you use the header ad there and this ad box has custom css which creates this issues when used in other places besides header.
Please edit the ad box element, add and use one of the custom ad boxes from theme panel > ads: http://screencast.com/t/X9RZ9uUcCw
Thanks
Hi,
Add the code for the ad using the do_shortcode() function and the shortcode for the ad you want to use, like this: http://screencast.com/t/FZVXFQqwl
Result: http://screencast.com/t/yomlgOR4B3t
Also make sure you add the ad code inside custom ad 1 in theme panel > ads.
This ex is for the default post templates, if you want to use another post template and you also want the add there you will have to do the same for all post templates: http://screencast.com/t/VdalgQFTh5re
Thanks
I have having an issues sharing links to Facebook, my featured images are pulling in as blank. Ironically though, this isn’t happening to all links just some.
Here is one it happens to:
http://sportsmockery.com/2014/10/chicago-bears-becoming-critical-mel-tucker/
The Facebook debugger indicates:
“og:image was not defined, could not be downloaded or was not big enough. Please define a chosen image using the og:image metatag, and use an image that’s at least 200x200px and is accessible from Facebook. Image ‘http://sportsmockery.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/nhl_blackhawks_23.jpg’ will be used instead.”
I deleted lines 17-26 in header.php as indicated in another thread, I also try disabling the SEO plugin all together, neither worked. Even if I un-check “add open graph data” in the plug-in it still doesn’t work.
Can somebody please assist? It seems to have just started about 2 days ago, kind of lost on a resolution..?
Thanks in advance.
Chris
I have managed to do the above. Sorry it’s taken me ages but I’ve had loads of other things going on recently.
I do have further alterations to make… I would like the title to be the same size as the other posts, it seems a little bigger to me.
Another issue is that a line of text is now misplaced, see screenshot: http://take.ms/e9996

Hi,
Thanks Christopher!
@acko_fon As Christopher wrote you can use theme’s ads system: http://screencast.com/t/o5G05mh5T5xB
Here you have a full guide on hoe to use theme’s ads: https://forum.tagdiv.com/ads/ or you could try to find and sue a plugin, unfortunately I can’t recommend one as we haven’t tested any but you can try and if you find one and you are satisfied on hie it works please share so that other could benefit.
Thanks
Hi,
Please note that if you use the speed booster plugin the theme loads other minified version of site.js file which contains all the js put together.
In this case you will need to create a new site.min.js file with the smooth scrolling function disabled, please follow this topic for this: https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/minifying-site-js-with-wp_booster-after-chances-to-td_login-js/
Hope this helsp!
Thanks
Hi,
You can use the header style 3 then make this changes in the header.php file: http://screencast.com/t/KD39mCRe then add your ad code and use the Adsense size to select the ad size you want: http://screencast.com/t/7opWwerdq
Also note that the Google adsense will be made responsive automatically by the theme. For other ad type please check this guide: https://forum.tagdiv.com/ads/
Thanks
Hi
I would like to ask if it is possible on the menu, one of the menu choices to have different font color than the others.
thanks
Basically what I’ve done for my site is
(not using child themes as they add CSS redirects bad for SEO/speed)
a) search/replace all instances of fonts I don’t want to load from Google in my style.css file; using common font stacks for fallback such as 'Open Sans',Arial,sans-serif
(if you don’t know what font stacks are, see: http://cssfontstack.com/
b) set all my fonts in theme panel to ‘default’ so there is no code if/then trying to insert any custom fonts into header/footer/speedbooster
c) commented out the code in functions.php which loads google fonts on the page; and also removed the section of code which has the various links to theme fonts on google I won’t be using; no need to have if/then code asking to load fonts from google if I’m never going to do that via theme code (as per examples in my prior posts in this thread); need to both or you will get error. Same code in 4.22, 4.3 and 4.4 versions of theme.
d) I grabbed the link from google fonts website for the font I wish to use (as per my example above in this thread), then pulled the actual css from that link so I won’t be loading the links to the fonts from their CSS file (one less CSS file loaded on page); placed this at bottom of my own style.css file after the minified code, so that it lives in its own section after theme styles.
All of this was done with caching off, mod_pagespeed off, so that changes are picked up immediately. When editing my files I use either TextPad on the PC, or BBEdit on the Mac, to ensure my files have Linux/Unix line breaks since I’m using Linux web server. Some PC editors will put “Windows line breaks” in files, which are bad for Linux servers, in some cases, and can cause parsing errors. So, helps to know what you’re doing if editing core files for a web server.
PURPOSE OF ALL OF THIS:
1) speed up website
2) remove intermediate call to CSS style sheet on google, which may not have proper expiration headers/TTL, and may show “advisory” from testing GTMetrix,PageSpeed Insights, etc. – may help “rating” by removing one so-called issue caused by Google’s own system.
You do *NOT* need to do this, unless you have ALL OTHER optimizations in place. Many sites load their fonts from Google using their function call as it’s essentially loading from a CDN. However, “hacking” the theme for this purpose can help advanced users resolve those last couple of ratings issues, and also those obsessed with micro-optimizations.
WARNING
this hack must be done EVERY time you update the theme; so if not willing to do that, best to skip this whole subject and get on with creating great content which is better for SEO and SERPS than saving a couple of milliseconds on font loading.
Hi,
For your first issue, you can get rid of the breadcrumbs on search module like this: http://screencast.com/t/wd80UQ6nBuWy
You can remove them the same way for other module also.
Regarding issue #2 please note that those setting will work for the pages templates build and added with the page builder and when used the default template.
We know about #3 and we have this on our to-do list to fix in the next update.
For the 4-th issue you could use this css to add a border to the top of page wrapper, like this: http://screencast.com/t/kcV8d2ZLj4R
.td-page-wrap {
border-top: 2px solid #a7a7cb !important;
}
#5 I’m not sure how this happens but you can use custom css to hide the banner only on homepage, like this: http://screencast.com/t/rDggCB6SIlUl
.home .header-content-rec .td-g-rec-id-header {
display: none;
}
and for post template 4 you can use this: http://screencast.com/t/K4PjrKpr3nI
.single_template_4 .header-content-rec .td-g-rec-id-header {
display: none;
}
Regarding the option for the banner to show before logo, you can simply do it like this: http://screencast.com/t/9cq1f3v9p5Bi
For the background of sidebar ad you can try this: http://screencast.com/t/BJhaoVkxCs1C
.td-g-rec-id-sidebar .adsbygoogle {
position: relative;
top: 0px;
margin-bottom: 0px !important;
}
.td-g-rec-id-sidebar {
background-color: #a7a7cb;
padding-top: 20px;
padding-bottom: 10px;
margin-bottom: 20px;
}
Also use this sizes fro the sidebar Adsense ads: http://screencast.com/t/wlsdqlsI3p
Hope this helps! Please let me know!
Thanks
Hi folks
okay… messing with my hobby website magazine, playing with logo etc., but anyway ran into some apparent gremlins in 4.4. Viewing pages in Chrome/Win7-64.
Standard setup; no bizarre plugins, no jetpack, no caching; mod_pagspeed off at the moment; no mega menu.
Issue #1 (personal preference)
on the author, category, archives pages, there are breadcrumbs printing on page under story titles which should not be there and are totally redundant, e.g., here:
http://ga-ga.com/gogaga/movies/
Issue #2:
the category pages, tags, author page don’t appear to pickup the H1 tag settings from theme panel, and also seem to “run into” the breadcrumbs at page top (as above link).
Issue #3:
on post tops with post type “style 2” the top ad banner gets truncated; even adding margin above the full width div for the breadcrumbs.
http://ga-ga.com/1815/book-review-good-title-bad-title-beatles-destroyed-rock/
Issue #4:
How to add a line rule below the top banner ads in general to better separate from the content areas? Could not find a single unique div for the top banner ad, and adding a line rule to the entry-crumbs simply added that to all pages, which didn’t work too well since on the normal categories, the crumbs are not full width and only in left main column. Perhaps even a background color for those pesky ads which Google serves with no borders and just floating on white backing look funky.
Issue #5:
Any way to disable the top banner ad on home page ? Right now on home page when above slider it overlaps the background gradient and with the transparent ads the drop shadow basically runs through the middle of the ad. http://ga-ga.com/
Similarly on the post style with full width photo (style 4), the banner ad doesn’t work with full width image
http://ga-ga.com/1829/book-review-place-hide/
COMMENTS:
Due to the issues with the top ad banner am thinking of just disabling it.
An option to have the ad banner ABOVE the logo would be nice, as I’ve mentioned before. Ideally with option to put a background color on the section, so it doesn’t conflict with the logo on either white or black background layouts. That does not currently appear as an option in the admin panel, unless I’m going blind. 🙂
ONE LAST:
How might I add a background color behind the div for the Google ad box in sidebar, to help “block that in” with the column width? Also useful for when Google serves a narrow tall ad, or a no border on white ad where it looks bizarre in the space.
THANKS!!! Some of that might be nit-picky, but only issues I’m having – otherwise perfect.
For 3)
use the phpmyadmin on server — or other tool to search the table for your posts, to replace http://yoursite.com/uploads/* with https://yoursite.com/uploads/* or similar. You will need to find other help on HOW to do that specifically, as I don’t have the proper instructions handy now. (sorry)
