Most of the theme files were moved into the tagdiv composer plugin as per the requirements of envato: https://help.author.envato.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000472383-WordPress-Theme-Requirements.
We wrote an article on the subject here: https://tagdiv.com/updating-the-core-of-tagdiv-themes/
Moving forward with such requirements, a child theme will only work with functions.php, and style.css as there are very few files left in the main theme as envato requires all functionality to be added through plugins.

If the problem is still there, please delete( delete the theme plugins too, do not override ) the current version of Newspaper that you have and download again from themefores the newspaper and reinstall it.

Please notice that the purpose of the latest theme updates is not to break your website, sorry! I’m sorry about that but please notice that our new latest update works as expected and should not break your website, sorry! The Newspaper theme update brings a change for the theme implementation. When you’ll be updating to the Newspaper 9.7.2 version, you’ll need to activate the tagDiv Composer to keep the Newspaper theme functionality you’ve previously used. Otherwise, you will have basic WordPress functionality, complying with Envato WordPress Requirements – https://help.author.envato.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000472383-WordPress-Theme-Requirements

Please make sure that you have install/update the theme correctly.

Please make sure that you do not have a plugin conflict, please deactivate all non theme plugins, also if you are using child theme or cache plugin, please deactivate them, clear all cache and try again.

Please make sure that all the settings are like in our requirements, please follow the guide carefully

In most cases the issue is caused by one of the cases below:

Could be caused by insufficient resources

In this case the hosting provider should be able to increase them.

Or it could be a security setting, module or firewall, as in this case where the theme panel was not saving any settings

Unfortunately, please notice that does not exist any patch between 9.6 and 9.7, sorry! The theme was changed a lot and also, the root of the theme files was changed. The Newspaper theme update brings a change for the customers that use WP Bakery Page Builder with our Theme: when you’ll be updating to the Newspaper 9.7 version, you’ll need to activate the tagDiv Composer to keep the Newspaper theme functionality you’ve previously used.

Otherwise, you will have basic WordPress functionality, complying with Envato WordPress Requirements – https://help.author.envato.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000472383-WordPress-Theme-Requirements

Please note that activating the tagDiv Composer doesn’t mean that you are required to use our custom page builder on your website.
You can use the WP Bakery page builder as you did before the update
We recommended you to do not use the tagDiv Composer and WP Bakery page builders on the same page though, because you cannot edit with WP Baker blocks and shortcodes created with tagDiv Composer or vice-versa.

Please make a backup for your website before updating.

Unfortunately, the Auptimize plugin has not been tested with our theme and therefore, we cannot say for sure if it will work or not as expected with the theme, sorry!

Notice that is not a simple task and if you do not have any experience in this regard you will do not bring good results for the theme. The 500 errors problem in most cases is caused by low wp-memory or old php version.

WP_MEMORY_LIMIT try to increase it at least to 256mb.

The cloud library seems to work alright at the moment, may have been something temporary with the servers. Let us know if you have any further problems with it.
