Hello,

Do you mean to limit the post excerpt, use in post “more” tag http://screencast.com/t/KY4rw0s6

Hopefully this will help. I uploaded a video of what I am referring too.

Thanks

Hello All,

I hope I can explain this correctly.

When I write a review or a blog posting how do I make the size that is being displayed a specific size with a “click here to read more”. Does this make sense?

I have a couple of reviews that are quite lengthy and when you click on reviews it will take you to all the reviews, but you have to click on the title to see everything including the score ratings.

So, is there a way to adjust the postings so that you see all the posts under that category and lets say there are 5 lines for each posting and then you have to click something to see the entire posting.

I hope this makes sense. The site is in beta at the moment and isn’t live (just a coming soon page) to be viewed. If an example is needed I will piece together some screenshots.

thanks for all your future help on this 🙂

Peace
Phil

Hi!

On http://www.livingsmarttv.dk we’re using the big-picture-module in top to show the latest news all in all and then below we have other modules showing latest news, latest reviews, latest tutorials etc.

This means that there’s always two copies of the same article. The latest one will always be shown twice like you see here:

Living%20Smart%20TV%20-%20technyheder%20og%20gadgetanmeldelser%20hver%20dag

ONE way to solve this, is to add a “minus x” to the module, so we can choose “show latest articles -1” so the module will show from the 2. latest and so on.

This way, the latest article will only be one time on frontpage.

also, same question for “Reviews”. Is there taxonomy for reviews? Or must everything be filtered by category?

Hello,

I want to ask if there is an option to have the review system only displayed at the last page of an review? For example, if I write an review using the nextpage feature, it’s not that great to have the rating already at the first page.

Thank you!

Hello,
Do you mean because you use the point review system. I’ve tested from our demo and work with points review.
http://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/sony-tablet-p-just-went-on-sale-in-the-uk/

http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/richsnippets?q=http%3A%2F%2Fdemo.tagdiv.com%2Fnewspaper%2Fsony-tablet-p-just-went-on-sale-in-the-uk%2F

You have installed the SEO by Yoast plugin? We will inspect your issue, to not be a general issue.

Thanks for the message!

No, I am not using any additional plugins. Could it be because of the type of review I am using? Have you seen that error before?

Thanks.

Marius

Hello,
DO you use some plugins? C9ould be a conflict from one. On our demo the rich snippets works fine. Please deactivate some plugins and test again http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/richsnippets

Also please try with SEO by Yoast plugin to have it installed and activated.

Thanks

Hello,

can you give me your url?

My rich snippets for my reviews are not working.

I get the following error when I run my links through Google’s rich snippet checker:

Error: Page contains property “logo” which is not part of the schema.
Error: No rich snippet will be generated for this data, because it appears to include multiple reviews of an item, but no aggregate review information.

Any way to fix this?

Thank you.

Hello,

@GZAM
– to optimize the delivery of the fonts you can create a colection on google fonts and use a single url to that collection to add them to the page.

The collection url for the default fonts is this: http://www.google.com/fonts#ReviewPlace:refine/Collection:PT+Sans:400,700,400italic|Ubuntu:400,400italic|Open+Sans:400italic,400|Oswald:400,700|Roboto+Condensed:400italic,700italic,400,700

and we via the speed booster plugin we load just one request with all the fonts:
http://screencast.com/t/s2uW3suSDHT instead of 5 (the ensues bellow are used on a default install to allow easy font changing)

After you decide on the fonts you can do a collection of them on google fonts and embed them all in one url.

@GZAM
– do you want to use custom webfonts or web safe fonts?

@Christopher
– we don’t change the jpeg compression quality for compatibility reasons.

@Christopher
we are working on a new panel, new font system and new css generator for the theme. Also we will do most of the templates in the old wordpress way so people can modify it easier. Version 3 will be a major rewrite and I hope people will not kill us for changing so many things 😉

Thanks Christoper for all the comments here on our forums, I really appreciate this and if you have any requests/suggestions or need help feel free to contact me anytime contact@tagdiv.com .

Hello,
You can hide the review section from posts, just comment like here: http://screencast.com/t/0Q9HaSAT
This will hide the review section from post.

Thanks for the message!

Hi,

Is it possible to put some points in post review section without showing it in front-end? I’d just like to use this section for the categories and news-block sorting only, not to display real reviews in posts.

Thank you.

Hi – I am just building a site and admittedly not as well read on this topic – but I get the hCard author problem too – however, with the Google structured data test, I pass the authorship and publisher validation – but I get the hCard in the following area:

Extracted structured data
hatom-feed
hatom-entry:
entry-title: Orlando Email Marketing Services
updated: December 4, 2013
bookmark:
name: Orlando Email Marketing Services
rel: bookmark
url: http://www.greggonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/Email-Marketing-Services.jpg
Error: Missing required hCard “author”.

To my understanding, this is not a big deal (for me) because this area is for things like tagging a recipe or review, etc….

Is my understanding correct? Or is this something I need to worry about.

Ok, didn’t seem to make a difference. I’ve attached a screencap of my style.css file

Additionally, I use the WP-Optimize plugin to regularly optimize my WP dbase. Cutting 800kb out of your dbase once a week, or after a large number of posts/pages, also speeds up your system overhead.

Typically, we post several stories, then do backup of WP dbase for safekeeping, then run WP optimize to clean house of all the temp files, overhead, etc.

Much like SEO, “Page Speed” is a program and not a plugin. It requires research, implementation and support ticket with your hosting provider, or if you have a VPS or full dedicated box, they don’t turn anything on for you by default — you have to tell them what you need to make it go. We had to test our server cache settings as the first time they were too broad, and we dialed that back (you don’t want to have your home page cached for a week, obviously, but images can be cached for a month or year, for example as they don’t change).

Enabling gzip or similar compression on web server is mandatory, and this is good for 20+ points on Page Speed (SERIOUSLY!). What this does is compress the files sent to the web browser which the web browser decompresses on the fly (modern PCs and Macs are mini supercomputers after all); so instantly almost everything sent from the page to the browser is cut by 50-80% — THAT speeds up the page immensely.

THE TAKEAWAY:
1) web server compression MUST be enabled and setup — this is good for 20+ points on Google Page Speed !
2) proper expiration headers must be served for static content like local hosted fonts, favicon, apple icons, images — this also impacts page speed as it tells browsers like Chrome and Google’s caching server not to keep loading content over and over again.
3) images must be properly optimized before upload to your blog/publication — don’t upload a 50kb file if a 25kb file will do —
4) avoid bad behavior plugins such as those which load additional style sheets not needed, or loading too many ad units (10 ad units on a page will slow it down!)
5) consider using a caching plugin like W3C which can fix things like combining CSS, moving JS to footer

TEST, modify, review, TEST, review, adjust.

Obviously Radu, Marius and co need to setup a FAQs/knowledgebase page for all their themes on this topic or folks will keep posting again and again asking why their WP page doesn’t get 99. The theme is part of the picture, not the only item in the picture.

Sharing all of this as this topic has been the #1 thing I’ve been working on with our other sites, including our main business site which I have up to 99 PageSpeed and 96 YSLOW, using a CDN on top of our own dedicated server, but NOT using WordPress. It’s a complex subject, but Radu and co have done a freaky good job in making this theme work with all the other pieces — and I bought about 10 other themes before this one — and they all sucked, as we say here in the states.

Peace and hope all of that helped somebody 🙂

Just for a point of reference on our test site under development, with 1.7.2, and no caching or tagdiv/optimizer plugin enabled. This is neither a complaint, nor solution, just an indicator of another look at “speed” on a “typical” review article page online, based in U.S.

Test article page
http://ga-ga.com/785/discwatcher-watching-films-at-home-spring-2013-a-good-day-to-die-hard/

Google Page Speed = 96 / YSlow 73* (desktop; not showing mobile results)
Page load time: 6.46s
Total page size: 2.19MB
Total number of requests: 106
*NOTE: huge number of “errors” due to GOOGLE ads/cookies/etc. with embedded YouTube video and two AdSense ads (top/right) and social media crap. Unrelated to theme.
PAGE HAS: 3 large images in article; two content blocks right side with 3 thumbnails each (6 images) and the 2 related content items below story. Total 11 images plus gravatar, and 2 logos.

14 images, 2 ads, youtube video; Google Page Speed “96” — not too shabby!

Main issues have to do with Google elements, and social media stuff. One javascript file could be compressed; YSlow hates the @style load of CSS via child theme (sigh). Images could be slightly more compressed (option to set compression level via functions file?).

For those looking at Google Page Speed vs “load time” or “payload” … ALWAYS test your “page speed” with AdSense stuff removed or you will always get upset with any WP site ranking/rating/testing. In our case, the above “96” with Google Page Speed is pretty amazing, frankly. 6 second load time, not so much (anything over 4 sec would be considered “bad” these days), but caching plugin and CDN may help with that immensely. Yslow pretty much “demands” a CDN for top speed ranking.

Our goal is 3 sec. max time for a page like that (avg 2.6 sec would be acceptable based on how some of our other sites work) and if/when I get to that, I’ll share our method of optimization, if anybody will want to know.

— PLUGINS:
* all jetpack OFF
* WP-Optimize (speed up your DB by optimizing it!)
* Akismet with site license
* Limit Login Attempts (a must!)
* Regenerate thumbnails
* WordPress SEO by Yoast
* bare minimum tagdiv provided plugins (e.g., animated GIF resize)

Is is possible to move the whole review overview box with the summary block to the top of the article underneath the featured image?
