That is not a safe method for my site. As I said, deactivating VC crashes the site because of the coding in functions.php. So there is no way to get to Step 2 when Step 1 crashes the site. I have to remove lines 205-207 from functionsphp, reupload the file, then reinstall VC, then put back the original functions.
What version of VC should we be using right now? I’m at 4.11.2, which is the most recent on Envato.

First of all, please try to update the theme to the latest version of it (Newspaper 7.4), clear all your caches and install only the plugins that come bundled with the theme and rule out any conflicting plugins. Then, please make sure that you have followed all the right steps which are explained in our documentation here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/smart-lists/ Please try to read all this documentation and after you understood all of those steps, try to implement the smart list on your side. WPMl and VisCom are not tested with our theme so we cannot say for sure if the plugins will work or not wioth our theme. Tested plugins mean not just that we tested them but it means we are constantly update our theme to keep up with the plugin updates and maintain compatibility between the theme and the plugins marked as tested.

Yes Andrel, the site has always worked. It was the forbidden entry to the back end which remained unsoleved with all efforts. I contacted NAMECHEAP and they had updated their firewall and not re white listed all sites. It works again.

Thanks for quick reply. After bughunting it seems to be in conflict with Ultimate Membership Pro-plugin (https://codecanyon.net/item/ultimate-membership-pro-wordpress-plugin/12159253). Unique articles stops working for non-logged in users. Why I don’t know. We’ve deactivated it and now it works as it should.
I’ll make a support-ticket with the plugin-developers. It’s a popular plugin we want to use for membership-fees, so it’s kind of a big deal to get it working.
I’ll update you when we find a solution!

Yes I have 2 valid licenses. Urbanista.com.tr has licence but it doesn’t do updates automatically.
By the way since 3-4 days it does’nt show anything on “update” site. There’s just a white screen on that part.
I can’t update wordpress either.

The best way to do it is indeed through FTP as Chris mentioned (Thanks Chris) You simply need to delete your old theme and then add the new theme files in the wp-content/themes folder.
The update script needs to be activated after you update the theme. Please note that you will also need to update all your theme plugins (visual composer, revolution slider, social counter). They are all included in the theme package.
There will be some elements that will have to be replaced or re-created as lots of things changed since newspaper 4

Please keep in mind that this type of error is generated by a bad version of Visual Composer with the latest version of Newspaper. Please try to update it to the latest version of it which is 4.12.1, clear all your caches and test it again and check the results.

If you have two valid licenses, you can download the latest version of the theme without any problems on your side. We recommend doing the update via FTP because this is the surest method in this regard.

Try via FTP to rename your plugins folder xplugins.
This resets/disables all your plugins so you might be able to login.
Note, before doing any updates *always* check for issues, like Yoast 3.6 has problems. Just because “an update is available” doesn’t mean you need to do it NOW. Also good to turn off automatic updates to avoid “sudden breakage.”
And keep copious backups.
Best way to update from old version to current version is via FTP. Seriously.
Hi there, I just inherited the task of web editor for a university publication and I’m working on updating the out-of-date site. I want to upgrade from Newspaper 4 to the latest version. I’ve seen the documentation that lists the three ways to do this. Whenever I attempt to upgrade through WordPress (clicking the ‘update script’ under the “newspaper’ menu heading) it starts, but gives an error message:
“Import script started:
> Newspaper 4 settings not found in database! td_008 – not found
> Quiting!”
Also, I tried to do it using the Envato Market method. I have successfully acquired a token ID. When I click the ‘add item’ option it asks me to input the token and item ID. I use the unique string of letters and numbers that Envato gave me and the item ID 5489609 for the Newspaper theme, as per the documentation. However it says that something is entered incorrectly and I can’t add an item.
I need to update the theme ASAP because most of the interface is broken. The visual composer doesn’t work, the interface crashes almost every time I try to navigate between sections (Pages -> Posts, for example) and uploading media often crashes the browser. All plugins are updated to their current version and WordPress is as well.

I just updated to Newspaper 7.4 and removed the plugins before. After the update ran through, there was no mobile theme included in the plugins folder. There was only Speed Booster, Social Counter and Visual Composer in that folder.
Where can I get the mobile theme plugin package for Newspaper 7.4 ?

I’ve tried to update my Newspaper through the WordPress dashboard and I get this error message:
Update Failed: The theme is at the latest version.
I’m not sure what I am doing wrong here, but I can’t seem to get anything updated on my end so my counter will begin working on mylifepossible.com. Can you help?

What I would like to happen is, for the updated date to show on the categories and the “latest articles” sections too.
It would also be great if when an article gets updated that it will move to the top of the “latest articles”
I think the above code shows the updated date in the search engine results?
Adding the codes to loop-single.php doesn’t show the updated date on all types of posts. Example: I have a post with post template 5 that includes a review on it that doesn’t show the updated date but only the published date.

You can use this after <div class="td-post-content"> on the line 40/41 (loo-single.php):
<div class="td-module-meta-info">Last update: <?php the_modified_date('j F, Y'); ?></div>
*is not so hard like the previous topic and when you make another update you’ll need to add only this line.
I know that is a botched job but works prety well. Will appear above the featured image.

Until now, this is the only solution in this regard. In a future update, it is possible, but we cannot say for sure if it gets done in the next update because we have a big list of fixes, improvements, and suggestions to implement. It’s hard to filter them and select which one gets implemented now and which one gets postponed. The developers decide if it gets done or not, though.
