It seems I cannot override the td_module_big_grid.php in the child theme either.
I have proven the concept by editing the core files but I really don’t want to do that with the regular updates coming from you folks.
Oh well, back to the drawing board…

Unfortunately the theme doesn’t have an option for this and you would need custom work this as it is not an easy task. We cannot offer custom work as we work hard on the development, updates, fixes and support but you can always get a freelancer from sites like: http://studio.envato.com/

I have updated the child theme css, but the live website keeps getting an older version. This is what the source looks like:

Were does the “ver=1.4” come from?
If I pull up that without the version is shows the current file. Is this a wordpress generated thing or a theme generated?

This morning I was trying to upload photos to my wp site and they would not load, then I tried to save a draft of the article i was working on – and it went away sending me to the posts page in admin with no posts showing – I have 1700.
The media library showed NOTHING.
I called my hosting site – and they said nothing was wrong on their end. I went to the home page of my site http://www.redcarpetreporttv.com and the theme was up but the page said 404 Error.
I then turned off all the plugins and that made my site disappear completely. I had to deactivate and delete the NewsMag1.5 site from control panel, turn on a default theme and everything came back into my admin panel.
I then uploaded the NewsMag1.5 theme again only to get most of the site back – but home page has issues with editor picks and ad now in the bottom of the page. What is going on? Was there an auto update last night?
Hosting site says your theme got broken? Not sure how that happened but it was very frustrating and is still now that I have to figure out why things are in the wrong place…

I never said anyone was wrong for complaining.
We didn’t need to modify anything on the server to use the theme.
Normal server optimization of WordPress is theme agnostic. TIME magazine had to optimize their severs for WordPress, regardless of the theme they are using.

VC’s so called “limitation” only surfaced with the most recent version. After almost 2 years of use by TagDiv with tens of thousands of happy users, I would venture it wasn’t a bad choice for a visual platform. The visual editing is the main reason many folks bought the theme — without a plugin like visual composer along with all its prebuilt and custom modules there is no other simple way to do this kind of layout.
That being said, we here are playing with a “lean framework” again, and testing stuff like this: https://wordpress.org/plugins/siteorigin-panels/
For some of our sites, we are looking into “lean layout” again vs “complex layout” where high demand news site doesn’t need a fancy “magazine” layout where the look/feel is a factor in audience hanging about and returning. For example, one of our oooold sites, running Canvas: CaliforniaNewswire.com — not as pretty as FloridaNewswire.com, but very lean by comparison, and not really optimized at all.
As to arrogance… it’s up to you to research and learn the tools of the trade. Hopefully you’re learning from all of this 🙂
In any case, I will shut up now. I am not “defending” the theme (or VC) against your issues, I am simply saying that not everyone has the issues you may have had. For some it’s a one click install process and a site can be completely switched over in a few hours. That’s pretty powerful for a $50 investment.
Things change with all WP materials. WooCommerce updates, breaks stuff. Waaaah! Not the theme’s fault. Revolution Slider has security vulnerability. Waaaaaaah! Not the theme’s fault. WP 4.1 breaks plugins. Waaaaah! Not the theme’s fault. People expect a hell of a lot for $50 these days.

Caching problem. Not related to theme.
You will need to fine-tune your caching setup; check online forums for W3 cache. Also note some versions of Chrome cache the site from last visit and then update when it detects new version.

Try to reduce the number of blocks on page, reduce the number of elements which come with ajax pagination (mega menus, ajax pagination, load more, infinite load – blocks)
Disable the view counter (it updates the database counter on each page view).
Try to reduce the number of plugins, use only the really important ones.

Did you enabled js minification on cloudflare? if you did disable it.
If you updated the theme recently purge all files on Cloudflare.
Also try to disable all plugins enable Visual Composer, check for errors, then enable the other theme plugins one by one followed by the rest of the plugins until you find the one that’s causing this issue.

Somewhere along the way, my theme css is messed up and causing my mega menu to not have enough padding above the images. Also, the sidebars are at 0 top padding too and this causes a miss alignment on the front page between block titles and pages with sidebars.
This wasn’t the case before an update and somehow it got adjusted. I can’t find the css that is causing it. I’m pretty sure it isn’t custom css that I inputted, because I checked all the places where that could be happening.
What is even weirder, is that when I look at a snapshot of my site in staging, it shows it with the proper spacing. http://bit.ly/1DHMIwo it looks just fine. It’s the live site that is missing the padding for some reason. http://bit.ly/1zNynwZ (not, on the front page, I have 20px VC space block in place above it to make it look “even”; in the staging site, you see that 20px added to the normal padding to cause the title to sit lower)

I am getting an error in my console log and for the love of me I can not figure it out. The error is for Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected String in the site.js file. My site is wagbrag.com. I am using cloudflare for caching and it hard to tell exactly where the error is but I believe it could be between line 1379 and 1417 in the site.js file. I beleive this error is causing issues with my Revolution slider.
Not sure if its related but I am also getting Uncaught ReferenceError: SlideContentComplete is not defined. See the scrip below.

Changed my mind – had to delete Max Mega Menu plugin because after installation it was making the site load very slowly so I’m withdrawing my recommendation.
Any chance you’ll be offering something similar in a future update of the Newspaper theme?
You limit number of queries by using fewer modules. Every
module on a page is a function to query the dbase. So, obviously if you do less, you use less resources.
Well, depends on your default. If you’re managing your own server you should already know how to edit the php.ini file or change the php settings from host panel, but many systems default to 32MB or 64MB, while I’ve found these days with WP that 256MB is a good “minimum” — if you have a high traffic site, double that. If your main site is the “main” site on your server, try 1GB. Also remember some servers you need to manually type the number into the panel, and the value will actually be something like 1G or 512M and not 512MB.
Upshot — check the default setting; if it’s too low, your site may run out of RAM, and die. SO, good place to start. 🙂

Main thing — limit the number of Google fonts, external stuff like Jetpack, limit multiple ad networks, test a post page with GTMetrix.com which has some nice “how to fix it” info for common speed problems.

From reading the thread I gather this is a known issue. However, you don’t seem to of been able to of fixed it despite it appearing on your demo? I realise your busy and I appreciate your help but it doesn’t feel right when you have been looking into the issue for two months.

I think that you don’t have that line because you don’t use the last theme(1.5). You can update the theme and after that uncomment that line.

Thanks for the hint. Well, to be honest I have to say: instead of linking a workaround/solution, why don’t you just include it in your theme since you wrote “we work hard on developmente, updates and support”?
When a user sees his name on the top bar, it’s natural to think that he’ll be redirected to his profile once he clicks on it.
As a business man, I can say that answering that the theme does NOT include this link (since it seems I’m not the first user that complain about it) it’s not good for you. Do it in your next update, please…it would make your theme better and your team more PRO.
