Hi,

In this theme’s update we have renamed some shortcodes:
– td_ad_box -> td_block_ad_box
– td_authors -> td_block_authors
– td_homepage_full_1 -> td_block_homepage_full_1
– td_popular_categories -> td_block_popular_categories
– td_video_vimeo -> td_block_video_vimeo
– td_video_youtube -> td_block_video_youtube
– td_text_with_title -> td_block_text_with_title
– td_slide -> td_block_slide
– td_social_counter -> td_block_social_counter

So the renamed widgets have to be re added to each sidebar after this update. Make sure that you backup your database and if possible get the widget list from your sidebars.

Rename the short codes via SQL: https://forum.tagdiv.com/update-newsmag-to-1-5/
The shortcodes shouldn’t be a problem, they will just appear on page as a code, you have to locate them and manually modify them to the new format: http://screencast.com/t/Da8k0HHtSD or use the SQL query (in phpmyadmin) to automatically replace them in the database – http://screencast.com/t/G1SwZNDb
Thanks!

Hi,

Unfortunately the author box from posts can’t be added as a widget, the one recommended by Alin is what the theme has designed for this.
You could try something similar to the “About me section” that we have on our demo on classic blog stack: http://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper_classic_blog/
You can see here more info about how that sections can be added using a text widget: https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/classic-author-box-how-to/
And below it you can add the social icons widget to get the same result, like this: http://screencast.com/t/IRCOfzqit
Hope this helps!

Thanks

Something to do with the new shortcodes?

Here is an example.
On Theme panel -> Theme fonts -> Post elements -> Box author description, I chose a custom font but on the post appears the default font.

Hi there!
I have a question: Does built in authorbox coming with Newsmag support Google and Facebook Authorship?

Thanks,

Is there anyway to expand what files you can modify with the child theme?

For example, I am modifying the Author Box (see another thread of mine). It is not in the includes/modules folder but instead in the includes/shortcodes folder and therefore isn’t overwritten by the child theme.

Also, trying to modify the JS file to remove smart scrolling (because it doesn’t work with Macs). Again, this can’t be modified through the child theme.

On a future update, I may lose these modifications if this file is changed.

Thanks

I tried the Byline plugin that you suggested, @partnowjess. While it seemed to fill in the guest author information under the title correctly, it unfortunately output the guest author’s name randomly in other parts of the them. I cannot recommend it as an alternative.

@mbasche, would you mind sharing exactly the line numbers that you replaced with this code? Did those this affect the output in the Author Box at all or just the names under the title? And does it handle only registered user authors or does it also work with Co-Authors Plus’s guest authors?

I’d like to modify the Author Box Widget. What file is generating the content? I’m assuming there is some sort of Author Loop in a PHP file somewhere?

Thank you,

Hi, Thanks for the reply.

I understand that others may be using it, but the “off” feature doesn’t work. I have the box selected as off and the code shows up in the source on page view. So i manually removed the code.

Also Google does not support authorship anymore, so not sure why anyone would want to use it?

Nonetheless, it would be great if the “off” feature really worked so I do not have to remove it everytime there is an update.

Please?

Hi,

That code is used for the author box feature which you can use on the posts. We will investigate and fix it in future versions but we cannot remove it as others use it.
You can use the child theme to edit the file and remove that code in your case or edit the file after each update and remove it.
Sorry for the inconvenience!

Thanks for the message!

Hi,

1. We will consider this, I have added this on our requests list and if more people will ask for it we will do it.
2. We also have this on our requests lists and we will consider it.
3. We will add this in next update, already have it on out todo list.
4. You can add this manually for all links just add the “_blank” target attribute for all anchor tags that you want to open in a new window, for author box social icons add it like this and replace the td_a_target variable: http://screencast.com/t/BjqbrZkE7CCE
5. I will add your request on our request list and consider it for future updates if more people request this. If you need this I suggest you use a plugin for it.
6. You can use this solution for this: https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/related-posts-within-a-post/
7. You can remove the Pinterest share button from here: http://screencast.com/t/xaD8W4o2dwvU

Please provide more details about the smart list ascending/descending issue as I have tested this and haven’t found any issues.

Thanks

Kindly make a note and address the following issues in the upcoming update. Most of it may seem minor, but they’re actually causing setbacks. More also, the theme needs to fully integrate with it self rather than installing plugins which disrupt the theme’s overall design.

1. Smart List: NEXT and PREVIOUS buttons should also appear below each smart list. That is, readers should not scroll back up to move to the next smart list.
2. Ajax Implementation in forums: “You must be logged in to create new topics” LOGGED IN should link with ajax.
3. SOURCE/VIA links: should link to a new tab, not override the page.
4. AUTHOR BOX social links: should link to a new tab, not override the page.
5. Post Share Count: On posts, let the “SHARE” show the numbers of shares and remain “SHARE” if there’s none.
6. Related Posts within a post: Option to add Related posts inside articles paragraph.
7. Option to Remove Pinterest Button from Posts.

@andirect
be sure to review this in the theme docs:
https://forum.tagdiv.com/page-speed-guide/

Ideally for initial testing of your site you should be testing post page, with all advertising turned off, as half the error messages come from ad networks. This allows you to “see” what is site specific vs external stuff.

The following all hurt your load times and speed:
1) social network “counters”
2) all externally loaded advertising
3) external jetpack elements
4) comments systems like LiveFyre, Disqus, FB comment box, etc.
5) too many images on one page (e.g., as on my page, no need for “latest news” in footer, since already in side bar, loading thumbs in yet another size!).
6) RSS or other syndicated elements loading from external source
7) gravatars for authors and comments (I use a local caching plugin to use local images vs loading from gravatar website)

Hope that helps 🙂

Hi,

Use this custom css in theme panel > custom css field to center the menu, like this: http://screencast.com/t/MFh2qyFzBE

#td-top-menu .sf-menu {
display: table;
float: none;
margin-left: auto;
margin-right: auto;
}

You have an option to show the author under title on post pages in theme panel: http://screencast.com/t/if0C81y1k28
Disable author box from here: http://screencast.com/t/nWbqQQBU

Thanks

Using the Default site post template STYLE 6, and having selected Show related article in the Theme Panel; so that related articles appear underneath a post with the headings: Related Articles | More from Author (the first in a black box and the second in a white box).

Questions:

  1. How do I change the displayed heading from “Related Articles” to “Related Videos”?
  2. How do I remove the heading “More from Author” which isn’t relevant?
  3. How/where do I style the new “Related Headings” title with my own preferred hex code color?

Thank you.

Hello, I hope you’re having a great day.

I have a plugin that allows me to select any combination of pages/posts/categories and then puts a lightbox on the page/post/category pages I’ve selected after a pre-determined amount of time, scroll or anchor text click.

The lightbox works on all pages (including my home page) and categories, but the lightbox fails to pop up on any individual post. Interestingly, the lightbox will show up on a category page, but not on the individual post of the same category.

Is there some kind of naming convention that may be causing this issue? It’s strange that the lightbox will show on any page on my site EXCEPT on my individual posts.

I am also working with the plugin author to find out what may be the issue here, but thought you may have some insight or useful information that could shed some light on the cause and solution.

Thanks.

Philip

Hey NewsMag, A very happy new year.

My website running on your theme looks amazing.

Although after the launch today morning , i have a small bug or a problem blocking my work.

My visitors are unable to comment on my posts.
There is one post where the comments section is working , rest the comments box and the author box above the comment section aren’t clickable.

Here is the post where you can comment : Commentable

Here are the links Non-commentable : Can’t click the comment box or the Author Box.

Look this is not clickable.
Not clickable, Source : http://snag.gy/91axZ.jpg

Here are the settings which i tried for getting it fixed but nothing worked.

1. I selected all the posts and made the comments “allowed”
Comments allowed on every post, source : http://snag.gy/ADJxl.jpg

2. Discussion Settings also i made it open so anyone could come and post comments.

Hi Lucian,

Thanks for answering my topic. Unfortunately the answer does not solve almost any of my problems.

I will try again:
1.- You know, especially on newspaper and magazines, there are topics that don’t need to have an author on the post credits. I had this option on Joomla (K2). This is an important feature for a magazine site. So, as there is in fact the option to show or not Author Name and Author Box, maybe is not very complex to add the option to show author by category…
2.- what a pity.
3.- Thanks!
4.- But the template stretches the images or crops them?
5.- But if I want to have the date format “l, j \d\e F \d\e Y” on single_template_2.php, how and where to add it?
6.1.- So, how to not show a widget on tablet?
6.2.- Create a custom class, “center123”. Then add it to the widget, but what code should I add on Custom CSS?
7.1.- Thanks!
7.2.- what a pity.

Regards,
Felipe Z.

Hi! Congrats on the great template. In fact I was going to use Newspaper for my site initially —which I bought a month ago— but then I saw Newsmag and had to change my plans and buy this one too.

I am migrating my site from Joomla, and have everything set but a few things that I really need help, please:

1.- I need to hide author on post (both below title and author box) on some categories. I need most of the categories to show the author, but I need to hide it on two or three.
2.- I loved megamenu, and for it to work properly I had to group some categories in a parent category, but this way my permalink get changed, too long (I’m using the custom option /%category%/%postname%/). So, is there a way to have three or four categories on a megamenu without having to group these categories under one parent?
3.- Little white spaces between Video List and Footer, and between Block 2 (black, sidebar) and Video List –> dev site
4.- The image cropping is not working right. Images on Megamenu are being stretched instead of cropped. Is there a way to crop all images (thumbs) on the template?
5.- I customized date format on the top menu, and other format for blocks, but now I need a third format for posts. how can i do this (Post template style 2)?
6.- I need a sidebar widget (Facebook like box) to not show on screens from 768px to 1023px. And how can I center it on the column when showing?
7.- On 2-columns Slider (homepage), is it possible to not show Views and Comments? And is it possible to change the half-opaque-layer to something like this:
Example for the layer for post info.

Felipe Z.

Hi,

The panel setting just hide the author box. To remove it you need the td_module_blog.php file and remove this code: http://screencast.com/t/Yv2bpfLP
We will also investigate this and will fix it if we find anything wrong.

Thanks

I have installed a plugin called Facebook Comments (https://wordpress.org/plugins/facebook-comments-plugin/). The plugin is working but it is being displayed in the wrong location. It is appearing at the bottom of the post, above the author box, related posts and sharing options. I would rather the comments appear underneath these (like it does with the default comments system).

Also, on my homepage I want to use the Big Grid: see http://www.monged.com/
The issue is that I want more posts to be displayed and the infinite scroll. Is this possible please.
see http://www.viralnova.com/ for reference.

Many thanks,

Luke
