Here are some tips that may help you to use Newspaper theme with WordPress 5.0

1. Image lazy load
You can try purging all cache (browser cache, CDN cache, Cache plugin cache). Disabling JavaScript minification will help as a theme by default serves a minified version of the JavaScript. If this doesn’t help you can disable Lazy load option from theme panel. Refer: https://i.imgur.com/zhUFavs.png

2. Enable Classic Editor
Not ready for Gutenberg?
You can easily enable Classic editor by installing Classic Editor Plugin by WordPress Contributors. The plugin also allows you to switch between both editors. Refer: https://i.imgur.com/VBYzo1t.png and https://i.imgur.com/viBr9eR.png

3. AMP images and embedd size fix

The post composed using new editors adds extra padding layer to the images and embedded in the AMP version of the Newspaper theme. It looks like this – https://i.imgur.com/BmulTEJ.png
You can fix it by adding these lines to custom CSS for your AMP pages.

@ladotg I tried the code from above again, seems to still work for the big grid slide

Maybe force refresh the page in the browser after adding the code (Ctrl+Shift+R), could the browser cache to blame.

I could also take a look if you could provide a link to the page where you have the big grids slide element.

Updated Theme and Featured images no longer load - reply

Hi,

After more further deeper investigations, it seems that problem regarding displaying of images happen due to memory caches. First of all, please remove all of the untested plugins and then, clear all of the caches (browser cache, hosting/server cache, purge CDN files if you are using something like this) and then, check the results.

Eliminate Render Blocking after tagDiv CloudLibrary - topic

Hello guys,

I’m using speedbooster plugin to eliminate render blocking. Google Pagespeed Insights was showing two things related to “Eliminate Render Blocking” which are: 1)td-plugin-multi-purpose and 2)google-fonts-style. Then I’ve followed your speedbooster guide to fix these 2 things and everything worked fine. In other words, there were no problem related to the “Eliminate Render Blocking” on Google PageSpeed Insights anymore.

Everything was fine until I activated tagDiv CloudLibrary. After activating tagDiv CloudLibrary, PageSpeed Insight has started to shown the 2 things that I’ve previously fixed (td-plugin-multi-purpose, google-fonts-style) and also started to shown a new thing: tdb_front_style (which is related to the tagDiv CloudLibrary) for “Eliminate Render Blocking”. And whatever I do, I can’t fix it. In other words, even though SpeedBooster plugin seems active in system status, it can’t do it’s job when I activated CloudLibrary. In order to make sure about this situation, I deactivated the tagDiv CloudLibrary and PageSpeed Insight immediately stopped giving any warnings related to “Eliminate Render Blocking”.

What I don’t understand is how can tagDiv SpeedBooster plugin could stop working while it is active ?

Can you please help me ?

Ps: There is no extra plugins in my website. Plugins that I use : tagDiv Cloud Library, tagDiv Composer, tagDiv Social Counter, tagDiv Speed Booster, WP Super Cache

Hello,

Please increase the memory limit set to 256MB or 512MB, clear all the caches and check the results. Also, check the theme’s requirements from here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/requirements-for-newspaper/

Hi,

Regarding the lazyload issues, some users report that they have cleared the browser cache, website cache etc and the problem was gone and the lazyload works for them as intended.

If you already tried the above with no positive result, disable the theme lazyload for the time being, in the theme panel. There will be no problem doing so.

If you try this and it works, please let us know.

We will still monitor the situation and continue the investigation to hopefully identify what could be causing problems with the new theme lazyload implementation.

I have checked your console and I saw that you have some errors through it as you can see here -> https://www.screencast.com/t/HGxR8ckK The js seems to be blocked and probably that’s why you will bring some issues. REMOVE ALL of the UNTESTED plugins and leave just to active a fresh theme install, clear all the caches and check the results.

Increase all the parameters if it’s the case.
WP_MEMORY_LIMIT try to increase it to a value of double you already have if possible.

I have made some tests on my theme install the TD COmposer and WPBakery page builder seems to works as expected. Remove all of the untested plugins if you are using something like this, clear all the caches, purge CDN files and check the results.

Hi,

Yes it is, there should be no problem of compatibility. After you update please clear all caching and CDN if used, also the browser cache if possible. There were reports from our users of images not being displayed after the update, for some clearing all caches solved the problem.

If you experience such an issue and it is not fixed after trying the above, please disable the theme lazyload feature in the theme panel for the time being

I have updated to the newest version of newspaper, made sure all of the plugins are up to date, cleared my cache and still see this where one of my blocks should be:
