So bizarre that some systems have issues, others don’t.
However I do recall going through this kind of thing with other themes over the years — where 90% of people had no trouble and for us every update broke their stupid custom “framework” which had to be updated separately. About five differnet big WP foundries just could not be consistent. Ended up just using Woo Canvas for everything for several years out of annoyance. “So far” we’ve been lucky with TagDiv as I think we are running the same kind of system they use for their demo site, testing — so, in our case we’ve not had all the wonky issues 10% of the userbase have seen. Sucks for those suffering these things. Totally been there.
Virtual hugs all around. 🙂
@fdiengdoh
me too! hate it (admin bar)! I used to add that, now I just uncheck the box in my “user” setting. That code is great when you have lots of users to make sure it’s not there. 🙂
Been too busy to add update here on how to optimize the Google fonts stuff. Will get to that eventually.

Hm. Weird. I sit corrected. I wonder if new version has some issue with Nginx …
presumably you already updated your php.ini file to increase memory, upload size and execution time from the often insufficient defaults. That was my issue with VC initially.
Probably best to roll back to prior version of VC and see if that works?
i think we got same idea,
i didnt like this update (1.7)
Of course it is and thank you. I was merely trying to inform the developers that
1- It is not related to a child theme
2- It needs to be fixed, because the solution provided is temporary
3- Even if you follow the update procedure given on the documentation, it does not work so this is something else.
Need help admin!
The quick fix is only short term, the search field when the magnify glass is click isn’t showing up at all. This newest update totally screwed up the search field
jetpack features was working fine until I update to 1.7. I had a tough time with that, but it seems Photon was the main culprit. I deactivated photon on jetpack and its functioning properly again.
In fact I’ve got trouble with jetpack comment system too but that got resolved when Photon is disabled. I’m still wondering if this is because of the theme update or something else.
I also use QuckLatex plugin in my site.
Sure Chris, but I wouldn’t defend the fact that update works well when so many people had problems. It is beyond me why their quality control is so bad when so many people bought the theme. There must be an element of *if we f**k this up, people aren’t going to be impressed* which was what happened not only to me but to many.
Can any one share me steps to update my theme
Thanks in advance
I think that is the issue with code used which does not work with ooooold versions of php on some servers.
For now roll back to older version and wait for 1.71 update of theme.
Hi,
When I updated with the last version I hade realy problem with VC. VC changed the block slide which I use for feature posts.
I think the team do not need to update the theme every month. They should take time and check many time to secure all the bugs befor releasing the next versions. That will save for us a lot of time.
I will not update now my current theme version.
I Like this theme – almost the best theme for websites now. The more theme works with out bugs the more we will love it.

Yes hiding it is temporary, but since tagdiv released an update right before their weekend (not smart) its better then nothing. Right?
Hi,
I have updated my NewsPaper theme and the Main Menu is not working properly.
I will show you how it is showing right now:

They are closed weekends so bumps don’t do anything.
Did you try editing the template files to remove the author slug ?
There is more than one template … so if you’re a specific template you’d need to comment it there too.
I think you can also try the “search” template. I always edit that with each update to remove breadcrumbs.
4.4.3 with 1.7 is working on my site.
Just built new home page.
You might TRY deleting the old js_composer entirely
uploading new version via FTP.
Use Chrome and not I.E. (if doing so). Clear all caches first.
Try going to your page, then click “save” (update) right side.
Then try adding new item.
Seems to work okay … but VC is a very persnickety plugin, it seems!
I went from 1.4 to 1.6 with zero problems last week.
Last night I upgraded site from 1.4 to 1.7.
Only issue I had was NORMAL issues of some of the sidebars getting reset (meaning some of the widgets didn’t save); and had to “resave” the homepage just to reset it. All settings normally carry over due to the built in “transient” settings of WordPress. Everything else was exactly as I’d left it.
You should also be regularly doing backups of your site, theme settings, etc.
If you made custom changes to the core files (e.g., style.css etc.) you would, of course, need to apply those changes to the new files.
1.7 works fine with couple of minor issues, depending on if your hosting co is running old php tech which is really somewhat deprecated.
So far only bugs I’ve had are one spacing issue in a stock WP recent posts widget, and the modules in Visual Composer won’t let me filter by any author except myself.
Everything ELSE is working fine for me in 1.7, but SOME people are having some weird issues which are common with all WordPress site changes/updates like this. Main issue is the use of some code in the theme which is not playing well with OLDER versions of php (we are running PHP Version 5.4.22).
So, check the version of PHP you have … if 5.4.22 or newer, should be ‘mostly’ fine.
OR: wait for a dot revision of 1.7.1 next week, I’m guessing.
Don’t know if that helped or just re-peated the other posts, but my two cents anyway. 🙂
Thanks Mate . But will i lose my custom setting if in cause i want to update it
Hello,
I’m using Newsmag from last 1 Month and it is really good but today I got a mail to update my theme version from 1.4 to 1.7 Please give me steps how to update my theme from WordPress and In the process will i loss my custom setting in the theme files.
Your response is appreciated.
Thank you.
(I’m actually doing this “right now” for one site I just updated from 1.6 to 1.7 but wanted to change layout …)
I am disappointed as I just purchased Newsmag. The theme is great. The Quality Control on the update is #$%^&
I got an email that there is a new version so downloaded the update from Themeforest. Then my problems started.
First off the documented updated process via the WordPress dashboard fails with with an error that the directory already exists. So I use ftp & upload & unzip & get an error “Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘[‘, expecting ‘)’ in …../wp-content/themes/Newsmag/includes/wp_booster/td_menu.php on line 191”
So then I remove the whole Newsmag directory tree & install via the WordPress dashboard but still get the same damn errors. So I have to once again remove the whole Newsmag directory tree & reinstall the version of the theme that I originally purchased from Themeforest. So now all is working again but I haven’t got the update installed & I have wasted an hour or two of my time.
I recently purchased the Newsmag theme & just received an email about an update which I downloaded from Themeforest but I have the same problem.
Initially I followed the documentation regarding installing but the update failed with a message about the directory already existing. So I used ftp to upload the new version. Then gI ot the “Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘[‘, expecting…” error which broke the site. So I deleted the whole Newsmag directory tree reverted to default theme then installed the new version of the theme downloaded direct from Themeforest & installed & activated that but I still get this error.
I have had to revert to the the version that I downloaded from Themeforest when I purchased the theme last week.
It looks like your update is broken. I don’t expect to have to edit code to get this working. Please update the download on Themeforest to a file that will install & work correctly
Hi,
We plan to add an option in one of the next theme updates, until then you can disable it by commenting the following code:

Hi.
I updated yesterday to 1.7 (with the second version, and also updated VC and TagDiv components). After the update the Visual Composer works when rendering, but when I want to edit the front page the Visual composer just shows the loading symbol, <*> but dont let me design anything.
Any ideas
Evertyhing was working fine before. I followed the instructions provided in “How to update the theme” section of the documentation. I followed the “B” method. Now I have this search bar problem. I applied the css fix but this is removes the search functionality.
I am not using a child theme and I would like to have the search functionality back. Hiding it is mereley a temporary solution.
