We have tested on our side and this is how the post template was created. The content has a margin set with css that works like this when no featured image is available. That is up to you. But in my opinion if you have paid for a theme like Newspaper you should use it to the fullest. So my option would be Static.

The caching issue will be there no matter what theme you will be using.
