I just installed newsmag and i am having hard time customizing it. I imported the demo template but it looked nothing like the demo i imported. I have tried every possible trick i could think of but nothing. Now i read that there is something called tag div cloud library on the theme’s plugin section but i don’t seem to see it on mine. Please i need assistant. Thanks
Hi,
Maybe that type of ads is incompatible with a cloud post template, and there isn’t much that we can do about that unfortunately.
Based on their documentation the ads are intended for websites that use basic wordpress templates, not built with a page builder -> https://journeymv.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/24635354354971-Why-Most-Page-Builders-Won-t-Work-with-Journey-ads-by-Mediavine
You could test by using a basic post template, install the standard pack plugin -> https://prnt.sc/jg-5chByus4f and use one of these templates -> https://prnt.sc/sCs7XZuhawRr Those templates aren’t built with the composer. Then check if the ads appear.
Thank you!
Hello,
Since August 1, I have noticed that the WordPress administration panel has been responding more slowly than usual.
I have reviewed several possible causes and found that WordPress is currently reporting a critical Site Health issue related to autoloaded options.
Current data reported by WordPress:
– 1,326 autoloaded options.
– Approximate size shown by Site Health: 2 MB.
– WordPress indicates that this volume could affect performance.
I also checked the options table directly in the database. The current autoloaded volume is approximately:
– autoload = yes: 1.54 MB
– autoload = auto: 0.12 MB
– autoload = on: 0.11 MB
Approximate total loaded automatically: 1.77 MB.
The total number also matches the 1,326 options reported by Site Health:
– yes: 1,131 options
– auto: 164 options
– on: 31 options
– total: 1,326 options
The largest individual options related to Newspaper/TagDiv are:
– td_011_settings: 820.24 KB — autoload yes
– td_011: 164.02 KB — autoload yes
– td_011_remote_cache: 35.64 KB — autoload yes
– td_011_log: 8.18 KB — autoload yes
The td_011_settings and td_011 options alone total approximately 984 KB. Therefore, these two options currently represent more than half of all the data WordPress loads automatically.
As an additional check, I also found a residual option from an old plugin:
– wpts_compat: 287.02 KB — autoload yes
Using WP-CLI, I confirmed that it belonged to a previous WPtouch installation:
– Original serialized class: WPtouchDefaultSettingsCompat
– WPtouch is no longer installed.
– There is no active or inactive WPtouch plugin or WPtouch folder on the server.
I did not delete the option. I only changed its autoload value from yes to off in a fully reversible way.
After making this change:
– The total autoloaded size decreased from approximately 2.05 MB to 1.77 MB.
– The autoload = yes group decreased from 1.82 MB to 1.54 MB.
– The administration panel appears to respond slightly faster, although I cannot confirm with complete certainty that the improvement is exclusively related to this change.
– Site Health still reports a critical issue related to autoloaded options.
I have also reviewed other possible causes of the slow administration panel.
1. Action Scheduler
The active Action Scheduler table appears to be working normally:
– No actions are currently in progress.
– Only three actions are pending, and all of them are scheduled for future dates.
– There have been no new failed actions since August 1.
– There is no active backlog of blocked or repeatedly failing jobs.
2. WP-Cron
The WordPress cron option is approximately 12.28 KB, so it does not appear unusually large.
3. WP Rocket RUCSS and background processes
There are periodic checks related to WP Rocket SaaS jobs, but the actions are completed successfully and do not accumulate. There does not appear to be a blocked queue that would independently explain the continued wp-admin slowdown.
Therefore, I cannot confirm that Newspaper options are the only cause of the problem, but they currently represent the main remaining portion of the autoloaded data.
I would like you to review the following questions specifically:
1. Is it normal for td_011_settings to exceed 820 KB?
2. Do td_011_settings and td_011 need to remain autoloaded on every WordPress request, including wp-admin requests?
3. Is it safe to change the autoload value of either of these options to off, or does Newspaper require them during almost every request?
4. Does Newspaper provide an official process for cleaning, rebuilding, or reducing td_011_settings and removing old configuration data that is no longer used?
5. Could td_011_settings contain accumulated data from Cloud Templates, the Theme Panel, blocks, advertisements, headers, footers, or old configurations that are no longer active?
6. Is there a diagnostic tool or recommended method to identify which internal settings are responsible for the 820 KB stored in td_011_settings?
7. Would it be possible to split this option into several smaller options and avoid autoloading data that is only required on specific screens?
8. Has there been any recent change in Newspaper or TagDiv Composer that could have increased the size of these options or the amount of processing performed inside wp-admin?
I have not modified or deleted any Newspaper-related option. Before changing their autoload values or altering their contents, I need confirmation from your team regarding which options must remain autoloaded and what official procedure you recommend to reduce their size without affecting the theme or the Cloud Templates.
Thank you.
Hi… Thank you very much for your reply. I temporarily solved the problem by rolling back all the way to PHP 7.4.30… but as soon as I upgraded to a version 8, the problem came back. I don’t know if this will help you.
I have ACF installed, but I probably don’t need it and will remove it, then try upgrading to the latest PHP version and se what happed then.
I can’t grant access since I’m developing using the “Local” program 🙂
Best regards
Best regards
Hi,
So the theme is installed, but after you activate it the error happens? I’m checking your website now and it seems to function correctly. I see the theme is installed, and a theme demo was also installed. Did you perhaps solve the problem? If there are still issues let me know.
Thank you!
In the meantime I’ve got confirmation from Wordfence and WPScan that they acknowledged the issue was fixed:
https://wpscan.com/vulnerability/601ad8e7-0ebf-4726-bfcf-b27b9d109137/
Maybe your website has been infected with malware. Updating the theme won’t fix it. Please test the website with the Sucuri live scanner -> https://sitecheck.sucuri.net/
If it detects malware, then I strongly recommend to immediately install the Wordfence plugin -> https://wordpress.org/plugins/wordfence/ and scan the website with it as soon as possible -> https://www.wordfence.com/help/scan/ if you haven’t already.
Could you provide a link to the website?
Getting ‘There has been a critical error on this website.’ after theme installation
Hi,
The first thing I see is that the required composer plugin isn’t active on the website. Please install it from the theme plugins panel -> https://prnt.sc/7P2I8thU8xeb Most of the theme’s functionality and features depend on the composer, so it should be active.
Then you can choose what you want to use, a simpler basic design based on the standard pack plugin, or a more advanced and complex design based on the cloud library -> https://tagdiv.com/why-tagdiv-cloud-library-is-a-better-alternative-to-the-standard-pack/
To provide a bit of context, the theme by itself with none of the theme plugins active is basically useless. The composer plugin provides the base. Then there are 2 directions, the cloud library or the standard pack, these add the extra capabilities.
I also noticed that you are using AMP -> https://prnt.sc/yhj7NKjJtRHv I rarely see AMP used anymore. But if you want to use it, then we recommend using it together with our mobile theme -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/tagdiv-amp-plugin-tutorial/
Let me know.
Thank you!
Hi
I have your theme installed and it works well on the large screen devices but on the mobile, the hamburger menues do not work at all. Please advice.
My site:
https://erik.zalitis.se/
I’m currently redesigning a news website that I manage, and I’ve run into an issue.
No matter what I try, I can’t change the color of the post titles in the news blocks using TagDiv Composer.
For example, I select Block 21, go to the General tab, and set the Title Text Color to white (#ffffff). I save the changes, but the new color is not applied on the frontend.
I’ve already checked whether there’s a CSS class or custom style overriding this setting, but I haven’t been able to find anything that would prevent the color change.
I’m using Newspaper theme version 12.7.7 with the Magazine PRO demo installed.
Could you please help me identify what might be causing this issue?
Thank you in advance for your help!
The update will be available tomorrow, first thing. The package is almost ready.
@ferhatakbas
Is the website infected with malware? What files are being modified/infected because of the XSS issue exactly? Please install wordfence and scan the website if there are such issues.
This vulnerability from the composer is related specifically to the simplified button element -> https://prnt.sc/gvSvPHoOk3iV While this is a medium level vulnerability, even if the button is used in a page, there is very little risk of a website getting infected with malware because of it. I won’t get into more details about how it can be exploited, but again, the chances are very low. If your website is actually infected with malware, restoring backups won’t fix it, neither will updating the theme. Please use a security plugin like wordfence and scan the website’s files in and outside of the wordpress installation.
Thank you!
Hi,
The older shortcodes and also the older templates were separated a few years ago into a plugin. The plugin is called standard pack, please install it -> https://prnt.sc/8SDPAd98-Y3_
Then the shortcodes and the templates should be available and the website should display correctly. Please try it.
Thank you!
Hi,
I can’t quite tell what that image is exactly. Did you install a theme demo? Either way, if it’s not set per category in the theme panel -> https://prnt.sc/bBQzZ9jBxVh8 then it must be set somewhere in the composer.
Could you provide a link to the website so I can check where the image is set? Or if you want you can send an email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide the link, and admin access, this way I can check and remove it as well.
Thank you!
I suggest updating the PHP last. So after you update the theme manually.
Updating the theme manually is not difficult. There are 2 ways:
1. I see you have cPanel -> https://brahmanjournal.com/cpanel In cPanel there is a file manager, which you can use to navigate to the themes folder and delete the theme, then you can upload the new theme version and extract it there.
2. Or you can update the theme through wordpress. Switch to a different theme, then delete the Newspaper theme and install the latest version.
Once the new theme version is installed, on the website you can navigate to the theme plugins panel and update the theme plugins from there -> https://prnt.sc/8G-T118T0O09
There is a more detailed guide here if you want to check it out -> https://tagdiv.com/update-newspaper-theme/
Thank you!
Hi,
It’s a false positive most likely. I’ve downloaded the theme package from themeforest and scanned the composer with virus total, it’s in order -> https://prnt.sc/4iIOjqaTh7AZ I also scanned it locally with Bitdefender, it’s also in order. So it’s safe to say that the composer as provided in the theme package poses no threat.
Maybe the website itself is infected with malware. To know for sure you could test your website with this online scanner from Sucuri -> https://sitecheck.sucuri.net/ Or install the Wordfence plugin and scan the website files with it.
Thank you!
Hi,
You will need separate wordpress installs to make that work. The plugins aren’t the same for both themes, so they can’t share them within a single install. Or, use the same theme on the multisite, either Newspaper or Newsmag. These are the only solutions.
Thank you!
I’ve installed Newsmag. The version i have on my site is : 5.4.3.6. If i try to update, it won’t.
How come the problem is stated as version 5.4.5?
This is a warning that comes up in Worfence : https://www.wordfence.com/threat-intel/vulnerabilities/wordpress-plugins/td-composer/tagdiv-composer-545-reflected-cross-site-scripting
As the problem is present since July 6, 2026, with a last update with no change on July 16, 2026, i am wondering when you’re going to address this problem.
I’ve spent two days writing code to isolate and get around the problem, to no avail. I do have a suggestion for the author(s): Rename your tagDiv files so that they are not the same name as those called by the other theme. Perhaps by adding the name of your theme to the tagDiv file names throughout the theme. Unique file names (everywhere!) would eliminate the compatibility problems. I gave up and moved my new site out of the multi-site WordPress and onto a new install.
hi, i had this message in my wordpress:
tagDiv Composer has a known vulnerability that may be affecting your installed version.
Improper Neutralization of Input During Web Page Generation (‘Cross-site Scripting’) vulnerability in tagDiv tagDiv Composer td-composer allows Reflected XSS.This issue affects tagDiv Composer: from n/a through <= 5.4.3.
Esta vulnerabilidad no parece tener parche. Presta atención a las próximas actualizaciones del plugin.
Hi Simion,
Yes, the extra menu was something we added while testing a few possible external solutions, but it also helped us identify the root cause of the issue.
We just wanted to let you know that the mobile menu is working correctly. The problem is that the website is loading too slowly, so until it finishes loading, it doesn’t allow the menu to open. Once the site has fully loaded, the menu works without any issues.
We are currently in contact with our server support team to find a solution. Thank you for taking the time to check our website.
Regarding the updates, we won’t be performing them this weekend because we’re expecting increased traffic. We’ll be livestreaming a cattle show in Guatemala, so we’d rather avoid making changes during that time. We will most likely handle the updates next week.
Once we determine what is causing the website to break when we update the PHP version, what would you recommend as the best order for the remaining updates? Should we:
-Update the PHP version
-Update the theme
-Install the tagDiv Standard Pack plugin
Please let us know your advice on this, as well as any other suggestions you may have regarding the update process. Thanks in advance!
I’ve installed a new purchase of NewsMag on a Multi-site domain. It required me to update the tagDiv plugins. When I did it caused another site on the Multi-site WordPress to break (It is running NewsPaper theme). When I logged into that domain it required me to update the tagDiv plugins. When I did, it broke the original domain running NewsMag. I’ve gone back and forth between the two sites several times updating one and then having to update the other — same results each time. It appears the updates bleed across the domains and are not the same. I need them both up and running at the same time.
Hi,
Currently I see some kind of custom mobile menu, or from a plugin, on top of the theme mobile menu -> https://prnt.sc/xr6is1rpWCft That extra mobile menu is displayed over the entire mobile header actually, meaning that I can’t click on the theme mobile menu, the logo, or the search.
If I delete that extra menu using the browser inspector, then the theme mobile menu seems to work correctly -> https://prnt.sc/tTDRcRp4z_Qw It opens correctly. So the only problem I see is that there is an extra menu in the mobile header, making it impossible to interact with the theme header.
About updating, if the website broke after updating the PHP, that can be caused by multiple things. Could be because of a plugin that doesn’t support newer PHP versions, or custom code, or the child theme as I see you use one, or an inactive extension in the new PHP version, or other causes. I suggest testing on a staging/testing clone of the main website, in order to deal with the issues there first.
From the theme perspective, if you update it just make sure to install this standard pack plugin -> https://prnt.sc/zkjDfLHkzSHy That’s a plugin we added in Newspaper 10. Normally it’s optional, but for older websites it’s required. Older websites are built with the older blocks, grids, templates, etc. and they will not display correctly without that plugin.
Thank you!
That standard post template is not actually meant to be used on the website, except temporarily for the situation when there is no post template set. The backup standard template has no customization options.
I believe you installed this theme demo -> https://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper_downtown_pro/ On your website I see that except the homepage you are no longer using any of the templates provided with the demo, like the header, footer, post template, category template. This is fine, you can use the templates you want.
The post template that comes with that demo is this one -> https://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper_downtown_pro/2022/03/08/the-scars-of-war-will-remain-there-for-life-published-study-finds/ If you want to use a different post template, it’s perfectly possible. And if you want it to look like the backup standard template, you could use this one -> https://cloud.tagdiv.com/#/single/single/Single/11 Please import it on the website -> then customize it with the composer and set it globally.
Using a cloud post template will replace the standard backup post template, which is normal. But you can easily customize the cloud post template adn make it look as you want. I can help as well, let me know.
Thank you!
Hi,
I clicked on the link and I see the post -> https://prnt.sc/urWTz4CH2COD I checked several other posts, from various authors, they seem fine so far.
Seeing something other than the actual post is very unusual, even suspicious if it’s a casino page. If there are redirects to other websites, then this kind of behavior is usually related to malware.
If I check in the page source, I see a suspicious script right before the closing body tag -> https://prnt.sc/xxrhq_w8gWjz And If I test the site with an online malware scanner which is very reliable, it says that there is malware on the site -> https://sitecheck.sucuri.net/results/https/www.captainforest.com/whites-saviorism-in-international-development-the-colonial-roots-of-modern-aid/
My suggestion is to immediately install the Wordfence plugin -> https://wordpress.org/plugins/wordfence/ It only requires a free license in order to use it. Then use the scan option from it -> https://www.wordfence.com/help/scan/ It should find any suspicious code or files. Please try it as soon as possible.
Thank you!
I’m very sorry that there are issues. A header, or the other templates in general, don’t usually get messed up.
If you want I will gladly install or customize the header you want, and make sure it looks as you want. Do you want to use a standard header or a cloud header?
Please send an email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide an admin account (user and pass) and let me know how I can help with the header. I will take care of it as soon as possible.
Thank you!
