I was trying clean installation of the plugin, and also updating from the patch folder, and both ways didn’t work.
But I’ve resolved the issue by downgrading(!) the plugin from 5.0 to 4.12.1

Try doing clean install of the version of VC included with the latest theme version; as found in the /plugins/ folder from ‘all files’ zip download; delete old version in your /wp-content/plugins/ folder via FTP, upload new version.

The Envato toolkit has never quite worked right for us, so typically best to do updates via FTP so you can take full site backup same time in case you need to “roll back,” and also to ensure everything uploaded properly.

Highly recommended to do updates via FTP, as many folks the past 3 years I’ve been around here have had numerous problems with broken sites using the Envato updater.

Just a suggestion.

Also; with Yoast and other major plugins it is always useful on update/install to

a) resave permalinks
b) clear transients with wp-optimize
c) go through ALL the settings panels in Yoast to make sure default settings don’t conflict with your site setup or other plugins which might do the same thing (e.g., if you already have a sitemap creator, don’t turn on the Yoast version; etc.)

Thank you for your reply. It is a bit funny but I can understand the reluctance at your end to suggest any specific plug-in. In any case as a follow up on the post (* since the issue is still not resolved) can I make a couple for formal requests an observations;

1.Formal Request: In terms of the template, can you guys test and recommend a plugin (*officially after confirming at your end and getting the due approval from you team) for adding a facebook business page to the Newspaper Template. In simple words, it is a “must to have” on a blogging portal and you guys are not giving any other alternative which is not acceptable.

2.RnD: In terms of the issue topic, I have tried adding the plugin and it got installed successfully. Although I could only add it to the “Widgetised Sidebar” and not in the “Visual Composer” section directly. Will keep you posted on the progress.

3.Observation: The template is fantastic and I was able to deploy the website very fast. To this I would like to congratulate you and the team.

I am still 30% into the project and will surly need some more support and guidance from you folks. Looking forward to that :). (I know the post is a bit too long for the forum and henceforth will try to avoid such verbose posts and stick to the issue)

My theme is up to date, everything is up to date, I didn’t mess with CSS, don’t have any weird plugin installed and it’s not the first time I work with wordpress.

So, perhaps your author password got hacked and then that hacker uploaded files to your server?

Theme cannot upload or post — your WordPress install does that.

Hopefully you have cleaned your site, and changed all your account passwords to “strong” required passwords.

Not my theme, just 20 year webdev expert and 11 years on WordPress.

So, make sure you do clean install of WordPress, thenes, and plugins, as I suggested — this means REMOVE current WP folders, plugins, themes, and upload CLEAN copies; reset ALL passwords; check htaccess and wp-config.php and root for any suspect php files.

Only you can fix your compromised website, not fault of the theme.

Just installed a fresh version of wordpress and re-downloaded and installed the theme and still the same thing happens when I install with demo data. I did the same before and installed with demo data but am not sure why some of the ads were showing and some not! Can you think of anything else it could be? Thanks

The theme doesn’t allow viruses to post on your site.

You should make sure you have proper security setup for your WP install per the WordPress.org docs on “hardening WordPress,” you should remove any pirate software or plugins being used; remove any plugins “found on the web,” change your main username/password, install https/SSL on your site, scan your site with the free SECURI site scanner, perhaps consider doing clean install of WordPress; remove all plugins and old themes you’re not using, as they are security risks.
