Hi,

I just came across something weird on my site today. It also seems to be affecting some other sites running the Newsmag theme. FYI, it is a ‘block 11’.

The first two posts are how block 11 entries should look. The abnormally large picture below the two is the one I’m talking about.

Just to be sure if it wasn’t because of a corrupt plugin, I reinstalled VC. The issue persists. It affects only certain blocks.

Hello PatWire,

I’ve checked again your website on mobile and everything works fine. Please provide more information about your issue, so I can be able to provide a more accurate response. Also, please disable all the active plugins, except Visual Composer and install only the plugins that come bundle with our theme. Clear all your caches and purge the CDN file if you use and try again. After this, if your problem is still there, please make a screenshot of this because it is very useful.

Hope this helps and let us know how it goes!

Thank you!

Hello,
In order to enable gzip compression yopu need to contact your hosting provider as the setup is different from one server to another.
The speedbooster plugin can be found in the theme files http://screencast.com/t/73Jg7eC0
You can install it from there.
The speedbooster plugin has a compatibility list of plugins it can work with. If any plugin is found the is not on that particular list, it will shut down. You can use it with other plugins though if you want by following this topic: https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/my-slow-loading-page-with-the-latest-update/
I hope this helps.
Thanks.

Hi Sundial,

Newspaper 6 is a whole new theme so an update from 4.X to 6 may cause the same issues as switching to another theme (but we did try to maintain compatibility where ever possible).
Always make a full backup of your current installation – https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups and then do a clean update, meaning that we recommend that you delete the old version of the theme before uploading the new one – https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/ update also the plugins that come with the theme files from the /plugins folder. In the “how to update” guide is specified that you will have to run the script that will import from database your settings.

The shortcodes have been changed so old ones will not work anymore. Please note that old files customization or custom css will not work with the new version and you will have to adjust or re-add them.
Bottom line is that newspaper 6 is a whole new theme built from scratch.

Unfortunately you will have to clear your agenda and spare a bit of time to adjust all your settings to the new version of the theme.

We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Thank your for your understanding!

Hello Rhonda,
Facebook changed a few things in their code that broke our social counter (facebook option). The twitter button should work as expected. Simply refresh it. Change the id to another one (cocacola for example) and see if the counter picks up the followers.
For the facebook option we are working on a fix as we speak. Until we get it done, you can maybe use another version of the plugin which worked for some people: http://cdn.tagdiv.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/td-social-counter.zip
Remove your current social counter and install this one.
Thank you!

Hi

I’ve checked your site and didn’t found anything on it: http://screencast.com/t/tciFoFZr9Oz Try to deactivate all plugins except Visual Composer, clear all caches and test again. If the problem persist you can try to make a new clean WP install, then install the theme and the Visual Composer plugin according with our documentation: https://forum.tagdiv.com/newsmag-how-to-update-the-theme/https://forum.tagdiv.com/newsmag-how-to-update-visual-composer-plugin/ then test again.

Let us know how it goes.
Thanks!

Hi

I believe it happens due to your server configuration which is not responding, it could be due to a delay or it could also be a temporary issues so you can try this a few times and if you still get this error please contact your host provider and let him know about this, ask them to unblock our demo in order to retrieve the theme data. It could also happen due to your wp install or other plugins might also cause this so you could also test this on a fresh wp install and let us know if you still get the same result. Also make sure that your permission for the upload folder are set correct. You can try this by trying to upload an image in media library. If the process succeeds then the permission are ok. If not you can use the c-panel to change permissions (set them to 777) if you have access to it or if not please contact your hosting provider.

Hope this help.
Thanks

I’m currently attempting to migrate a site running the 4.x version of the theme to the current version of the theme. However, while I’m able to install and activate the theme, running the included migration script has had u predictable results.

The site has a large amount of content and, to test the update, I created a dev instance of the site and ran the script. The home page became completely malformed with no apparent styling and distorted markup.

I repeated the process and the script appeared to work better, but still not correctly. It appeared as though the layout was correct, but not images were rendered on the home page as they previously had been.

I’m a bit puzzled as to how to proceed as running the script has caused unpredictable and damaging results when run against identical copies of what is in production. Given this, I’m hesitant to attempt the update on production as I believe there’s a strong chance it won’t work properly.

Has anyone encountered this? Is there a resolution? Thanks!

6 month support was set by Envato/ThemeForest not the theme devs.
Also, they are closed weekends, as noted top right of forum.

For support, you need to be specific, and include link to a post/page showing example of problem and/or screenshot — this helps the support team, as well as some of us who use the theme daily (in my case over 2 years with TagDiv themes).

Note theme support doesn’t include basic WordPress self-education. Optimizing your site, server, images, caching, time to live (TTL), etc., are all functions of any WP install. Themes are “skins” on top of that. And, the more complex a theme/page you setup the more resources it takes. A page with 20 images and 20 dbase queries uses 40x the resources of a page with one image, and no “related posts” and other stuff.

There is a decade worth of help online on how to optimize the speed of your site for WordPress you may find useful doing Google searches, also.

TagDiv support does a great job providing support; however, they also get a little behind when there are too many queries like “how do I upload a photo” that can be found from the normal WordPress docs.

TagDiv are awesome because they DO try to help people with the newbie stuff that most other support folks won’t bother with and just point you at the RTFM docs at WordPress.org (the “codex”).

If you can be very specific about your issue and what you did to try to mitigate it, they are very happy to help — which is truly remarkable these days.

Wasn’t putting you down, just some feedback to your feedback. 🙂

Hi
before I tried it on a live site, I thought I’d check to see if anybody else had tried out the beta “AMP” plugin for WP, to optimize a better mobile experience for those platforms that plan to support it?

If you’re not aware :
AMP = Accelerated Mobile Pages
ref: https://www.ampproject.org

It’s in the WP repo for download/install.

Dev info – https://github.com/Automattic/amp-wp

I have the plugin installed and the widget added to the site

the fan counter shows 0

there is no place to add facebook app id or keys and the tutorial video says that the widget will automatically pull in any data from the fanpage but the count is showing as 0

Any ideas?

I have updated my php.ini file, and this has been reflected in the system status from the wordpress admin panel.

However, I am still getting the same error when I try to install demo content:

Hello,
1) Please double check this issue on a wordpress default theme to see if it’s a WP issue or theme related. You can also check your system status parameters: http://screencast.com/t/bpnfaltKJ and try to get them all green by following this tutorial: https://forum.tagdiv.com/system-status-parameters-guide/
2)Make sure you install the SEO Yoast plugin and tick the open graph option: https://forum.tagdiv.com/system-status-parameters-guide/
3) You neet to config your sitemap. Use yoast and configure it to your prefference.
Thank you!

Please try to disable all the active plugins except Visual Composer, clear all your caches, purge your CDN files if you use and try it again. Notice, please install only the plugins which comes bundle with our theme. Also, if you are using a natural small images, you can use a plugin to upscale, like Upscale Thumbnails plugin. Hi,

You can try this version of Social Counter(it worked for some users) – http://cdn.tagdiv.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/td-social-counter.zip Just deactivate and delete the current plugin and install this version, then use another fb id(like tagdiv) see if it works and then revert to your id so you will refresh it.

Hi dezertproxy,

I’ve checked your site and I saw your huge image. This behavior is not controlled by our theme…maybe is a plugin which stretched this. Please try to disable all the active plugins, except Visual Composer, clear all your caches and install only the plugins which come bundle with our theme and after this, try it again. If the problem is still there, please let us know.

Hello zookii,

The theme use the default WordPress registration that’s why appeared this issue after WordPress update and the function is deprecated. Please add change this code – http://screencast.com/t/5oHnnt3nsQkj with this – http://pastebin.com/tp9t4yRp .

Also, you can make an update to new version because in our new update this problem has been solved.
First of all, please backup the whole current theme installation as well as the database and wp install: https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups

After this, you can use the ftp method from theme’s update guide to upload theme’s files and remove the previous theme files before uploading the most recent ones then test this again and let us know how it goes. You can find a video tutorial on how to do this in theme’s update guide here: http://screencast.com/t/jNFnYQ0ONohttps://forum.tagdiv.com/newsmag-how-to-update-the-theme/

Hope this helps and let us know how it goes!
