Yes, after further investigations there was an issue with the mobile theme and child theme functionality in version 8.5. However these issues were quickly fixed in theme version 8.5.1.
Please reinstall the theme using the latest version, by FTP is usually the most recommended method to update

Then make sure that the tagDiv composer and multi-purpose plugins are active.
Also check the theme system status section section, ask your hosting provider to make modifications if needed

There was an issue with the mobile theme functionality in the 8.5 theme update. This was fixed in the 8.5.1 release. Please download the latest theme package and install it, the mobile theme is fixed

It’s recommended to make a full backup to your database before each theme’s update to avoid losing your data. You can ask your hosting provider to make modifications to them if it is required. Then try again to install the theme. Usually the FTP method is the most recomended

I tried to do a theme update on option # 3. After I have installed the latest version Newspaper 8.5, the system requires me installation key. I enter the old key – you receive the answer that this key is already used. Had to restore previous version from a backup… Why?

Unfortunately your customization from newspaper 7 will most likely not work in newspaper 8.5 anymore. The code will have to be re-implemented and adjusted to the new theme code. There is no update proof method of altering the theme files. Code gets changed so your modifications of the old code need to change as well. WP 4.9.1 will not change anything though. Our theme is fully compatible with it so it should not create any issues.
Your child theme will have to be re-created though.

While accessing site on Mobile I found 2 issues…
1. I am using Block 13 for one of my post blocks in Homepage. The links are not clickable on Mobile
2. Mobile site loading is too slow. In PageSpeed, the desktop version shows 98 while the mobile is 70.
Please help.
Also, for each theme update do I need to add the customization I added in theme again?

I’ve updated to 8.5.1 manually, and cleared cache and everything, but facing this issue.
I can access the website in the mobile theme template, but the wp-admin is showing error – ‘HTTP ERROR 500’. I’m able to access all posts, but the wp-admin is not working on mobile.
Also, I’m facing an issue with revolution slider
1. I’ve installed demo slider and selected categories, but it only shows sometimes, and once I change to other categories, it stops showing the slider.
2. Why can’t I use a template I create on my own rather than using demo sliders? Becuase the one I created is showing in the preview, but not in the tagdiv composer.
Today I decided to update Newspaper from version 6.5 to 8.5 and I started replacing the pages created with Visual Composer with new pages created with Tagdiv Composer.
In the beginning the Tagdiv Composer was working fine, but after a few hours it stopped working. When I click on “Edit with TD Composer” then a blank page opens and there is a spinning icon showing that something is loading. Unfortunately it keeps loading for ever and I can’t use your composer anymore.
Please let me know what to do.

All yes, I did and do that since the last 6 months, TagDiv is not the only one I bought a theme from….
However if Tagdiv sends you this link see below, then you should normally expect they know what they are talking about and why they advise you to follow up on this. Why are they advising to overwrite the files in the theme folder, why do they not add that you need to manually copy over their plugins? (in wordpress I get my plugin updates from there, with tagdiv it needs be done by hand, so if this is the case, make sure it is documented well.

I have a problem with using Theme 4.0, it is conflicting with the “RSS Autopilot” plugin in which you use wp-cron.
By activating the plugin, it automatically disables wp-cron, since the plugin automatically updates wp-cron the news captured by it.
I have been with this problem for 5 days, only now having the problem diagnosed.
I need URGENT correction.

I got into habit of doing it this way years ago (have been using WP for 12 years, 13?) … and I do a full FTP site backup prior to any updates/upgrades. Of course I have custom stuff in the functions file, and hacks to remove the Google Fonts and use native fonts, so I kinda have no choice there. But by doing a full backup via FTP, then upload new stuff, it ensures clean upgrade, and a way to ‘roll back’ if something wonky.
Your mileage may vary, as the saying goes, but that’s what I do out of paranoia. 🙂
Well, on the documentation page for theme, “how to update…” note the first section:
Before you update, it is best practice to:
Always check our update notes
Always backup the files and the database, in case something goes wrong with the server you could use the backup to revert to the previous state. For more information on how to backup check the official documentation.
Do not keep older copies of the theme inside wordpress themes folder
Reset the cache after you update
Update the plugins. The theme required and recommended plugins are included in the theme package inside the ../Newspaper-tf/plugins folder.

If you ever read the documentation from Tagdiv how to update your theme, you will discover that it is the opposite from what you describe.
The question now is who is right? I followed their instructions, if they are wrong then I ask myself why for god-sake did they write a document like that, even their instruction video shows you to do it like that. If you are right, they should hire you to update their documentation instructions… =)
Does Tagdiv want to confuse their users and like them to create support tickets here?
I did the manual plugins already, as any documentation on that is missing…
For a famous producer of a Themes Bestseller I would expect better documentation and service!
don’t get me wrong, I love this theme, I think it is well done, but service and support are very important too, I lose time because of issues, which are unnecessary!

I created a child theme when I installed Version 7 on our site. We are hosted on WPengine.
Im not sure how to update to 8.5 and preserve all the work we have done over the past year.
Im also worried about the upgrade to WP 4.9.1 – how will this change anything.
