Thought everyone would be interested to know that I am still waiting to hear back from Envato to reset the download limit (there have been so many updates for this theme).
On Sept 1st they said “Our wait time is currently longer than we’d like it to be at the moment so we appreciate your patience.”…
Zzzz
Works fine on Facebook and Google Plus. Already checked twitter tags. Might try contacting Twitter about it and see if they will do anything.
I’ve just updated to WP 4.0… no issues, a few plugin updates though. Really like what they have done with Media and Plugins section.
Yeah, basically some new features, house cleaning; a lot of wp configuration tools under the hood; but not the big “security panic” updates of some of the recent dot revisions. But always check the codex to see changes, since if there is a notable security fix you SHOULD update to remain secure.
http://codex.wordpress.org/Version_4.0
Highlights
◾ Manage your media and embedded content with style ◾ Explore your uploads in a beautiful, endless grid
◾ A new details preview makes viewing and editing any amount of media in sequence a snap.
◾ The content-editing experience is better than ever ◾ The visual editor now expands to fit your content
◾ A fixed toolbar in the editor when you scroll
◾ Embeddable content previews right in the visual editor
◾ Better workflow for finding and installing plugins ◾ A new grid view adds some visual flair to finding and installing plugins, bringing relevant plugin info front and center
◾ For Developers ◾ Customizer Panels API
◾ Updated external libraries
◾ Better flexibility for WP_Query ORDER BY
Thanks you guys!!! so far everyone says that v4 really isn’t that much of an update, but in my experience those are the ones that have the most hidden “gotchas” no one saw coming!!!
and I usually wait a while to update… so I’ll do that this time too!!!
Try something other than twitter to test change, since they often “cache it once” even if wrong, so a new tweet might just keep showing the original with error, and won’t update (at least that is what I’ve seen.)
Be sure to check the page source and ensure the og and twitter tags are populated; which you likely already have done.
I came in late on this, so might not be relevant at this point.
Was just popping in to see if anybody was crashing with WP 4.0 🙂
anecdotal
so far have updated to 4.0 with no trouble
– 4 year old theme; worked fine, asked to update dbase
– 4 year old theme; worked fine; just completed
– 2 sites running custom Woo Canvas; updated fine; one plugin update
– 1 Newspaper 3.92. site; updated fine
– 1 Newspaper 4.2.2 site; updated fine
BE AWARE if you check the changelog for the Newspaper theme, the current version has been fully tested with WP 4 RC1 which was released in past couple of weeks (they were shooting for Sept 1 WP 4 release date, so hit it pretty close post holiday).
So, beyond third party plugins, should work fine.
No issues with latest YOAST SEO, wp-optimize, feedwordpress, addthis, XML sitemaps, our internal random advert module (for banners or text-based no follow ad boxes/responsive); etc.
So, not quite the pain and torment of 3.9 which was precursor to 4.0. You are generally pretty safe with this one…. but always do *BACK UP* prior to any major full number revision, of course.
Hope that helped on the paranoia 😉
I’ll advice wait a few days are a week b4 updating,in this way if there is any bugs etc they will get fix,also ur plugins will get update as well if you have any…just give it a week…
Ok, so full disclosure, I”m a drupal guy just learning wordpress on this new site and the theme and all those fun things that go with a new system or two!!! So maybe I’m just a bit too cautious, but after a whole night of trying to figure out how to give proper image credit.. poking around under the hood in WP and feeling a bit over whelmed, I woke up this morning to a new update 4.0 to WP… sooo…..
What do you guys think? Upgrade right off while I build to make sure everything is working or wait? Anyone update to 4.0 and find any issues?? Are we SURE the new theme release works with 4?
Just hoping for a little friendly advice from those who have been wordpressing for a while.
Hey guys,
I have been working on a social sharing plugin for the Newspaper theme. Since the social sharing buttons that comes with the theme isn’t pretty great and all the other famous plugins are full of bloat-ware, I decided to make it as clean as possible.
So, I tried Bootstrap and Font Awesome to make the buttons. It worked properly but then I found out that the theme has custom version of Bootstrap, meaning that it conflicts with the stock-version of Bootstrap. Christopher,(the man who supports almost everyone at the forum ;)) suggested me to change the classes. So, I did but didn’t work.
Then I decided to move it to PureCSS and it worked. Here is how it looks like:

Features:
-
Its ridiculously responsive
WordPress 4.0 (just released) ready
Based on Font Awesome and PureCSS (faster loadtime)
Upcoming Features:
Share counts.
Yes, it is a lot like the RRSSB plugin but the plugin doesn’t play well with the Newspaper theme.
If you want, you can download my plugin from here.
I have added the plugin to WordPress.org and it is under review; I will update the thread as soon as it is approved.
P.S: TagDiv, if you think I am self-promoting, delete the thread but please don’t “ban” me. I just wanted to share it with the other users 🙂
So what do you guys think?
Thanks. Found the zip file but learned that the link you mentioned for updating from a zip file is only available via *another* plugin. I used this one:
https://wordpress.org/plugins/easy-theme-and-plugin-upgrades/
It’s updated now.
In the zip file that you download from themeforest, there’s a folder called plugins. It’s in there. 🙂 You have to go to Plugins -> Add New and then look for the text at the top that says “If you want to update a plugin by uploading a zip file, go to this page” or something to that effect.
I understand there is a critical vulnerability with Revolution Slider, which I believe was packaged with this theme. I just downloaded the new version of Newspapaer, but the slider did not update. Could you tell me how to do this?
Just did the update (theme & plugins) to latest version 4.2.2 without any issues.
That’s great!
There is a small layout rearrangement on homepage blocks which is better but
produced a little bit more white space around blocks.
Hi Christopher,
I have noticed this now, I will add this on our todo list for next update.
Thanks again for all your help!
Hi,
Thanks, I have added this on our list and we will consider this for future updates, until then you can do this by adding -77 to exclude posts from a specific category, add with minus sign the category ID you want to exclude.
Thanks
Hi,
Unfortunately the td_social_icons.php file is not editable using child theme as you probably noticed and I can’t offer you a solution to this. Probably the best way will be to make the changes you want by ordering the social icons into the social icons array and then make a copy of this file so you can replace it after an update.
Sorry for the inconvenience
Thanks for the message!
i have a small problem with the mobile adaptation
this is how the menu looks on mobile, same with an ipad

this happened with the latest update,
it looks nice on chrome though

could someone help me please
i have update some title..but is not working on from page..but after you clic on title is showing the change,, also after that i misisng the photos on front page..any help..i can gicyou my site admin and pass so you fix this for me if is posible..thansk..
Any news on a fix for this?
I’ve just installed the latest version of the theme but it doesn’t seem to be working still. The Jetpack top posts & pages widget works and pulls the most popular content in, is there anyway you could modify that and add it to the page builder?
Cheers Christopher, it had worked previously which is why I flagged it up.
I’ve removed the Envato WordPress Toolkit from my site and it has had the added bonus of speeding it up quite dramatically 🙂
I got confused.
1) Open sans works fine but ubuntu,roboto etc. do not. They look different.
Roboto: http://prntscr.com/4jbd9r
Ubuntu:http://prntscr.com/4jbdp8
Roboto and Ubuntu(google fonts page): http://prntscr.com/4jbfff
2) Blue default color loading first is not fixed. I re-installed the plugin and update again the theme. nothing changed. Last solution does not make any meaning because problem is not only blue color. Default template loads first. all fonts and colors change.
3) All I need is a website with latin extended fonts. I want to change widget, menu, h1, h2, title. etc.. fonts and colors using theme panel.
All these fonts and colors supposed to be changed by theme panel. But, in this situation, theme panel has no fuction.
or
(Theme Panel > Custom Typography) never works. I have to change everything manually with css. Is this right?
It has been just two weeks, that I bought the theme. I can start all over if there will be no problems like these.
What do you recommend?
Okay, I just realized we are paying for Google Site Search on our main portal, where I’m doing the blog with Newspaper, and occurs to me it “would” be great idea to use the Google Site Search paid edition from the top menu to replace the WP search.
Seems like one could hack the top section for that.
Will look into it later on and update if I have examples 🙂

I’m seeing the same delay with the infinite scroll that was mentioned above. I even see it on your demo page: http://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/homepage-infinite-scroll/. It started with the 4.0.1 update.
On scroll, one additional block set loads then loading stops. I can’t get more articles to load unless I scroll up the page and back down again. I see this in Chrome, FireFox, IE9, and iPhone 5c. I tried commenting out the smooth scroll starting at line 684 of site.js but that had no effect.
Hi,
I just checked your site and seems to me it’s working fine using both fonts Roboto/Open sans: http://screencast.com/t/dylrBRszw I have enlarged the block title font here so you can see that if you use this font the turkish characters look fine also.
Use the css like this if you want to change the block titles: http://screencast.com/t/BPwIBCHr2z
.column_container .block-title span {
font-family: "Open Sans" !important;
line-height: 28px;
}
Regarding the blue default color loading first, please re-install the speedbooster plugin and also update the theme to the latest version 4.2.2. Before this please make sure you make a backup of your current theme files so you can revert if something goes wrong.
If that dose not help, try this solution: https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/about-default-theme-colors/#post-17657
Hope this helps!
Thanks
Please can you add the ‘category__not_in’ field for each component because I don’t want to overwrite your stuff each time.
Regards,
ex:
class td_slide extends td_block {
function __construct() {
$this->block_id = 'td_slide';
add_shortcode('td_slide', array($this, 'render'));
}
function render($atts){
$this->block_uid = td_global::td_generate_unique_id(); //update unique id on each render
extract(shortcode_atts(
array(
'limit' => 5,
'sort' => '',
'category_id' => '',
'category_ids' => '',
'category__not_in' => '',
....
function get_map () {
//get the generic filter array
$generic_filter_array = td_generic_filter_array::get_array();
//add custom filter fields to generic filter array
array_push ($generic_filter_array,
+array(
+ "param_name" => "category__not_in",
+ "type" => "textfield",
+ "value" => '',
+ "heading" => "Exclude posts from categories id (, separated)",
+ "description" => "",
+ "holder" => "div",
+ "class" => ""
+),
In td_data_source
class td_data_source {
static $fake_loop_offset = 0; //used by the found row hook in templates to fix pagination. The blocks do not use this since we use custom pagination there.
/**
* converts a pagebuilde array to a wordpress query args array
* creates the $args array from shortcodes - used by the pagebuilde + widgets + by the metabox_to_args
* @param string $atts : the shortcode string
* @param string $paged : page number /1 or /2
* @return array
*/
static function shortcode_to_args($atts = '', $paged = '') {
extract(shortcode_atts(
array(
'category_ids' => '',
'category_id' => '',
+ 'category__not_in' => '',
...}
if (!empty($category__not_in)) {
$wp_query_args['category__not_in'] = explode(',', $category__not_in);
}
