Hi Lucian,
I didn’t put my thought correct.
I do understand that these are filters, that make these extra URL. But I would like these elements to be closed from index so that they do not appear in the search, because the system that I use for site analysis says that the pages I mentioned above are duplications.

So once again. I would like to have on my site quite clear structure: categories and posts. All the rest:
( – ?filter_by=featured/
– ?filter_by=popular/
– ?filter_by=review_high/
– ?filter_by=random_posts/
– ?filter_by=popular7/)
I would like to exclude from search and use only as navigation. Could you please help with the issue?
One more question.
While analysing the page I faced the problem of html errors. In one post according to system there are 39 of them. http://pix.my/BhzYLetj
Most of them are the following:
Error Line 34, Column 216: Attribute itemprop not allowed on element meta at this point.
Error Line 549, Column 198: & did not start a character reference. (& probably should have been escaped as &.)
Warning Line 557, Column 545: The name attribute is obsolete. Consider putting an id attribute on the nearest container instead.
Error Line 593, Column 150: The frameborder attribute on the iframe element is obsolete. Use CSS instead.

I’m not a programmer and can’t estimate the importance of mistakes. Could you please kindly comment on the issues mentioned?
Sincerely,
Vladimir

How hard would it be to display a two column mobile view? Even if it’s after all the “blocks” on the page and it starts where the “latest articles start”.

Like this example

Hi,

I am having a problem when embedding PlayWire videos on Newspaper theme.
See this page for example: http://www.videodomomento.net/anitta-se-desleixa-e-insulta-fa-em-pleno-show/

The playwire code is:

<script data-config="http://config.playwire.com/23434/videos/v2/1384719/zeus.json" data-height="100%" data-width="100%" src="//cdn.playwire.com/bolt/js/zeus/embed.js" type="text/javascript"></script>

But when going to the page, you will see a very large empty white space:
https://db.tt/mwc7nP00

The playwire guys tell me it might be a problem with the theme. As in other places like here it is working fine:

Hi,

You can only add infinite scroll pagination to blocks so if you want infinite scroll on your home you have to use a homepage template without latest articles section and add a block with infinite scroll pagination. Here you have an example: http://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/homepage-infinite-scroll/

Thanks

Hi,

For views to appear on module view you have to make some changes to the module file you wan to use and add this line <?php echo $this->get_views();?> to it like this: http://screencast.com/t/mvPFV3j1 then add the get_views function to the td_module file, like this: http://screencast.com/t/0CQ0vPrc
This is an example for the 7 module but you can do it for other module as well.
Result: http://screencast.com/t/nHmm5cLZ1L
Here you have the get_views function: http://pastebin.com/yfvFpeKa

The comments/views icons are added via css using the newsmag font, like this: http://screencast.com/t/HrqO1w3usey
Hope this helps!

Thanks

Hi,

Could you please provide more details about this as I have also checked for this but haven’t found any issues with it. Please send your site’s URL with an example of this or a screenshot.

Hello,

I currently don’t have ’emoji’ support for my website?

When i embed a tweet with emoji’s in, the content after the tweet appears in blockquotes as well.

An example of:
1) The tweet i’m trying to add.
2) What it looks like in visual editor.
3) The final outcome, doesn’t show tweet template or emoji.

Not technically a bug …
it’s designed to be a visible menu for related items from the same topic; so if you had entertainment, and then sub categories like fashion, film, food. music … those would show there. When you only have main categories, it shows all of them.

Trick is to architect the site based on groupings of related categories, for example, here we have several sub categories of “music” and so only those related music categories show on the visible topics menu
http://ga-ga.com/cat/music/music-makers/

Or, for, in our case, we grouped all the book, fiction, stuff together under “reads” and now only those related topics show
http://ga-ga.com/cat/reads/book-reviews/

Probably a method to “disable” that might be good for those who ONLY use single top level categories. However, many large magazine sites do “group” related things together in order to make navigation easier. So, I think that was the idea here.

Hi @moregoodfoundation, thanks for your code examples but for some reason it’s not returning the follower count for me. Everything else appears to be working. The meta tag for our follower count is…

<meta name="pinterestapp:followers" content="40038">

Strange!

Hi,

I’m not sure I understand, this issue appears even when you have the header set on style 4 or just when you use style 1 with the logo and the ad side by side.
Please let me know and also provide you site’s URL with an example of the issue you have so I can check.

Thanks

1) get free FTP software
2) login to your website via FTP (see your hosting account info)

examples on post style 6
http://ga-ga.com/2193/mt-ashland-oregon-welcomes-major-snowstorm-after-first-snows-ceremony-to-end-drought/

and post style 4
http://ga-ga.com/1890/book-review-people-deserve-a-fighting-chance/

I would almost go so far as to “suggest” that some kind of shadow on the H1 tags for both of these templates might be a nice “default” even if set as 1px 1px 3px black .

Anybody know how to do this on post style 4 also ?

For some reason I’m not able to sort these couple of styles out properly when looking at the source code. For style 4, there is no .template4-header div, for example.

Hi,

There’s no ideal size, if you want to display something to the left and right of the content area like for example – http://screencast.com/t/pyAJsNMxh you have to take in account the content area width – http://screencast.com/t/KDhTbt7sVt and create a background image based on that – http://demo.tagdiv.com/newsmag_fashion/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/fashion-bg.jpg

For best graphic results you could use a full hd image (1920x1080px), make sure you compress it, you don’t want a large file, it will slow page loading speed.

Thank you, Emil G.

Hello!

Again thanks a lot for the great theme! I have 2 questions related to the author information and the search module:

1. I have been able to make category and author name appear in module 6 display under the article images as well as in the article itself under the title. I would now like to add a small thumbnail of the author next to his name at these 2 location. One of my idea would be to have a secondary author box (author_box_2), simplified with just small picture thumbnail and author name, and replace “get_author_name” function by “get author_box_2”. Is it a good idea and if so what would be the code for it? Otherwise, could you please advise a solution?

2. It seems the search module doesn’t return any result when searching for an author name or a category name, but only when keywords appear in an article title or content. Would there be a solution to fix this? A plugin maybe?

Thanks a lot in advance for your help!

Best,
Sam

Yes that is what I wanted, thank you for pointing it out and happy it’s not any extra work just to add that in there.

Is there a quick way to style that into a button in css like the “read more” buttons and change the text from “Load More” to “Load More Stories &amp; Updates”

Thank you very much.

Hi,

You could do it but you will have to add them hard coded as unfortunately the theme doesn’t have an option for that.
Here are the theme’s header files located: http://screencast.com/t/kyTBlUnRoo ..edit the one you use and you can use the do_shortcode() function to add your widgets using shortcodes and build them via Visual Composer, here is an example of how you can build and implement a shortcode into a template: https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/how-to-add-custom-widget-below-post/#post-30389
Hope this helps!

Thanks

Hi,

I am facing an issue with implementing/installing the Newsmag template on my website. It gives me the following error: td_page_builder_widgets.php when I activate the theme/template after uploading theme/template files onto the wordpress platform for my website.

Please look into this issue & advise.

Thanks

however I do not know why when I set content which has image (for example src=”http://mydomain.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/hqdefault9.jpg&#8221;), after call wp_insert_post, the image in content has been changed. It converts to src=”http://i0.wp.com/mydomain.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/hqdefault9.jpg?resize=150%2C150&#8243;, it is thumbnail (or feature image) of post.

Is there a way to add a “Load More Stories” on the bottom of the homepage instead of using pagination? I’d prefer to do this with the Module options and not the Latest Stories loop within the homepage.

Here is an example of a website that implements this at the bottom of the homepage – http://www.ign.com/

Thank you

Adding more bloat and features I/we (our company) don’t need slows down the theme and adds more complexity of code. When speaking of “our” I am speaking for our news network (we have a 32 year old publishing/information business NEOTROPE®). So we have news portals appearing in Google news since it launched in beta; and sites online 10-15 years. “Our” refers to “our company,” not me personally.

For example to make the theme full width requires additional @media classes to resize things to fit the viewport. This adds more CSS, and/or more JS to the theme elements loaded for every page load, even if cached.

Newspaper got a little complicated with the 200 feature requests, mostly for things we didn’t need around here like WooCommerce support, and various other things which bloated the code a bit (generally a “newspaper” isn’t a “store”); but many folks loved the theme and kept piling on “hey can we do this?” and the team kept adding things, and still do so, which is awesome. But it’s got a lot more code than it did a year ago. Not a bad thing, just a little further away from a pure “newspaper” solution, which was its original intent, and hence our original purchase, and support.

Just my thought. Your mileage may vary.

You can certainly modify the theme to change the CSS, or hire a developer, but I doubt they will add “full width” capability, just as they removed the “fixed width” capability from Newspaper (and upset some people); this theme was answer to having a fixed width theme for those who want it. Just an observation, and possibly completely incorrect 🙂

I don’t speak for the company in any way, although quite a bit of my feedback and expertise as a 10-year WordPress user have made their way into some elements of themes and the docs, which is great to help contribute to since we (our company) use both TagDiv themes.

I DO AGREE ON HOME PAGE:
I do agree that it would be cool having the top image bar element full width as an option, although you’d get some issues with the images having to be responsive and both the images and the VC “block” would need to be set to fill the divs, and this means the images used would never be their “actual size” and hence you’d get a warning from PageSpeed about the images being resized (not an issue for us since we use mod_pagespeed to cache “resized” images based on the resized format) – which some people obsessed with pagespeed score might not like. But yeah…. I’d love to see that particular module you’ve identified have a full width option – many sites like news.com, and other have similar element.
So, I do agree on home page; disagree on post pages.

TIP: most of the function files not found in functions.php are in the /Newspaper/includes/ folder and many are in /Newspaper/includes/wp_booster/

so if you look in there, an obvious choice might be “td_video_support.php”

and if you look at that file, you’ll see this at the top

/*  ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
    tagDiv video support
    - downloads the video thumbnail and puts it asa a featured image to the post
 */

Pretty good idea to “explore” the folders for the theme you’ve installed to see what files are there, as that is often a way to see what does what or find things on your own vs waiting for somebody else to locate it or for tech support to answer on a weekend. 🙂

Generally all featured images are put into your media folder based on the settings you have for WordPress, such as /uploads/12/13/2014/

In my case I found it was better to simply have all images load into a folder called /images/ without the date/time stamp stuff as you end up with a needless number of sub-directories.

Hope that helped.
