Hi Lucian,
Okay, regarding the Header Ad, I get it now…I added the code per your example and it looks pretty good when the window is re-sized. It looks like I now need to figure out a way to shrink the tab sidebar.
I added the custom css for the Revolution slider but it is still in the forefront and overlaps the drop-down from the Header Menu. Any other suggestions?
thanks,
Bill
@Shashank I deactivated Minify from the W3 Total Cache and installed https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-html-compression/ but it made it worst. Google now shows that I need to minify html…?
https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/?url=gdgtarena.com&tab=desktop
I think you’re not using total cache correctly.
I don’t minify anything with it. Turn minify off and use wp-html compression to minify html. It changes some url pattern and probable the warning with http://fonts.googleapis.com/…7CRoboto+Condensed%3A400%2C700&ver=3.9.2 will go.
After that just optimize the images, and done!
May i see your htaccess?
Hi,
It’s not easy to prevent the search engines to get the date from posts, you would have to locate all tags from the theme files and WordPress also, you could get a freelancer to do this for you or you could try to find a solution online.
Also I’m not sure if not showing the date of your posts it’s an Google call, you could do a search on this for more info. Also you can use this tool to check what Google gets from your site.
This is an example for our demo site, you can see that it dose not show the date even though we hadn’t made any changes to prevent that. http://screencast.com/t/61gpPqkjzxc
Hope this helps!
Thanks
@Shashank How did you get 97? WOW. That is amazing. I know that @Christopher’s website has 97 as well. My one is 86 on desktop and 65 : https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/?url=gdgtarena.com&tab=desktop
Can you please tell me how did you get there?
Thanks!

Salut,
Pentru acel buton adauga:
<div style="display: inline-block"><?php echo do_shortcode( '[vc_button title="New topic" target="_self" color="default2" size="default2" href="#new-post"]' ) ?></div>
<div style="display: inline-block"><?php echo do_shortcode( '[vc_button title="Post reply" target="_self" color="default2" size="default2" href="#new-post"]' ) ?></div>
.. in fisierul content-single-topic.php asa: http://screencast.com/t/uNXeWgZJ
O sa obtii acest rezultat: http://screencast.com/t/fWP0N78gIbP
O sa ai doua butoane pastreaza unul sau cum doresti.
Adauga acelasi cod in fisierul form-search.php asa: http://screencast.com/t/QOwMJI9RoDl pentru acest rezultat: http://screencast.com/t/3NQ31iLoS
3. Daca introduci un link video in campul “featured video” video respectiv va fii afisat in locul imaginii la inceputul articolului, asigura-te ca ai setat post-ul ca si video pentru asta si sa nu ai selectat stilul 5 pentru postul respectiv, acela este fara imagine.
Multumesc!
Without a live site it’s not possible for me to inspect element and see the exact CSS, but here goes.
Revolution slider problem:
.sf-menu {
z-index: 2 !important;
}
.rev_slider {
z-index: 1 !important;
}
For the search bar, right-click and use inspect element. Find the input element and then find its class (or the class of the first container above it), then sub that in here:
.the-class-you-found input[type="text"] {
border: 1px solid #777777 !important;
For example, if I were changing my Contact Form 7 “Your name” input, I would right click on it and find this:
http://www.screencast.com/t/B8Rfnfeuvr
In which case my CSS would be:
.wpcf7-form-control-wrap-your-name input[type="text"] {
border: 1px solid #777777 !important;
Then change the hex code to whatever colour you want.

Example might be useful. Where are you trying to use shortcode? What shortcode?
it can’t be the point 4) – the filename is ok.
all files are the same files (create in the same way etc.) – that’s why i’am so wondering why some of them aren’t work.
could you write more about point 2) and 3)? how can i check it?
i work on a local server (xampp), so i can’t do it via ftp.
thank you a lot!

I think it’s awesome, personally.
I think it’s dumb for some people who buy themes to expect lifetime support on how to update their theme, read the documentation, or read the bits about the VC plugin. Some people refuse to LEARN how to manage their site, server, content and expect the theme authors to teach them how to use WP, which is “insane” from point of view of the theme developer. At any other business a single support ticket would cost more than the theme price.
I think all products purchased on the cheap ($50 for a massive theme is still an insane deal) should have limited time support, and major major version updates a year later should be a modest update cost; this makes it worthwhile for the theme developers to stay in businesss, continue doing upgrades and not walk away. Two themes from ThemeForest I had used, are no longer available for download – Dead. FINI. If the new model had been in place, the author/dev might still be updating that theme.
A perfect example is that the theme devs had to do massive work for the theme to support WP 3.9; that wasn’t part of the purchase that people made for the product last August 2013.
It’s like a new car — should car makers give you a new car every year. No.
Folks like WOO have annual programs which help pay for ongoing development, upgrades, and support (and not as good as TagDiv, I should say). So, unless I’m reading the post wrong, it does seem like a good idea from a business point of view.
(Of course, I’m an “old guy” who has been doing graphic design since I was a teenager in the late 70s, and webdev since March 1995…. so, I tend to err on the side of business owners ….)
I think you can try using non breaking spaces in the title, but haven’t tried that. I did notice this also the other day 🙂
but try this Letter&nbsp;to&nbsp;the&nbsp;Editor
I’m sure Marius will have a “real” answer about this.
Well, typically jpeg is used for photos, png is used for logos, charts, illustrations, because it’s color reduced; so a compressed PNG might only have 256 colors, while a jpeg can have 16,000 when compressed (that is not exact, just an example). PNG is a modern version of GIF, not a replacement for JPEG 🙂

Here it is and here’s how I got it:
1. Copied and pasted your child theme functions code
2. Copied and pasted the function td_load_css from the parent theme’s functions code
3. Changed the name from td_load_css to my_td_load_css
4. Changed the line you mentioned to include ‘&subset=latin,latin-ext’
5. Copied the two extra lines I mentioned in my first post and pasted them at the very end
See if this works:

Hello, I wold like to know how to configure to show the full menu bar, like in the “newspaper sport demo layout”.
Here a example pic: http://screencast.com/t/wwq18QkscLH
Thanks in advance!
Hi
I would like to add Image Caption to Post Featured Images. Here is what I am talking about:

I am displaying the image by the theme’s Feature Image feature. I want to get the caption from the images’ Description field.
I would also like to add a hover effect. So that it pops up when someone hovers over the image. — If it isn’t possible, it is ok.
You can see an example live here.
Please let me know if it is possible.
Thanks!
Can you please give me your single-loop.php file along with a screenshot of advance custom field setup. I will be really grateful. I tried but it’s not working. Can i make a custom field without plugin? I think dreampress hosting has some issues with Advance Custom fields plugin due to varnish cache.
I want to thank the developers here for offering such great, quick support. As we all know, you truly back up your theme with excellent work and help. I’ve convinced friends to use this theme because of the awesome support. So, thanks again!
Now the reason for my posting today:
Could someone please give me a guide to create the following block, like the mockup I’ve linked to below? Basically, I want a photo teaser to an article to span two full columns while 4 smaller teasers sit below it.
Here’s an example: Mockup link
I appreciate the help.
Buna ziua,
Am facut actualizarea la Newspaper 4.2 (in primul rand, sunt foarte incantat de versiunea 4 si noutatile pe care le aduce) pe blogul http://itutorial.ro si am mai multe intrebari/sugestii.
- In primul rand, cum pot sa fac toate imaginile individuale sa fie modale (sa se deschida in noua galerie)?
Mi-as dori:

Now please suggest me what to do for increasing my page speed. My site is damn slow. Please help me to correct the speedbooster.php file as per instructions. Special request ot Christopher for helping me out. Thanks
@JBH glad you get some good so far out the plugin,well you just have to look for those JS & CSS files and exclude them as well..at this time i can’t tell you which files those are because i’m not having those issues, speedbooster is working great so far and i did not had to exclude any files of mine..have you update the speedbooster to the latest version because the author made a lot changes in the plugin since then…but my advice will be go to the wordpress website and post in the support forum for this speedbooster plugin the author will help you much better then me…
Hello, I have a custom post type called “destinations” and the preview function as I edit doesn’t work properly. For some of these destination pages, it returns the 404 pages as a preview, and for others, it previews existing posts that start with the same name. For example, I was editing “Asia” destination, and when previewing my edits, it previewed a blog post called “Asia’s 5 Best Cities for Street Food.”
Any idea what’s causing this? Thanks in advance!
My pleasure. I ended up not using cache plugin, since mod_pagespeed does great job in combination with server-based cache since it doesn’t have to run through the php system or wordpress code as a caching “plugin” does. You *can* use one, but I found it didn’t help much really and caused too many issues when I need to update a page or template.
Trick is knowing how to clear the cache on server when you go to update the theme to clear out everything before and after upgrade so web browsers can “see” the new versions of the style sheets.
But I think you’ve got it 🙂
Thanks Christopher for reply. I have contacted dreamhost staff and they first told me that i don’t need to use any plugin and the speed will be improved with in a week. After that, i said if i want to, then they said that’s purely upto you. We recommend W3 Total Cache with some settings mentioned in Dreampress Wiki.
Therefore from now, i am not going to use any plugin. Thanks a lot.
Varnish is often used at server level, and that is the Dreamhost interpretation. You often need to let them know you’re running a WordPress site, or visit your control panel to tweak the settings for the cache. Since this runs on server “above” the typical second-tier plugins like W3 or Total Cache, you should not have to use the plugins stuff at all.
However, with mod_pagespeed running also, there are some things you will want to tweak (you can see my settings in the pagespeed sticky topic; but Dreamhost will likely have some things which can/cannot be set to “on” by using either your control panel or .htacess file declaration at top — again, see my settings in the forum pagespeed topic here).
Also, remember when testing that a page is slow first time when being cached, then subsequent visits are cached on server.
However, I’d likely
1) do a Google search for
Dreamhost DreamPress Varnish + Mod_Pagespeed + WordPress
2) check with your hosting provider (Dreamhost) for optimum setup for Varish and mod_pagespeed for WordPress, since they deal with that all the time and may even have a support FAQ on the right settings to use.
The combination of Varnish and mod_pagespeed is truly awesome. We are using APC opcode cache + mod_pagespeed on our server.
Normally the main issue is connecting mod_pagespeed to Varnish for caching so that mod_pagespeed can see updated content properly, but I’m certain DreamHost would have that properly connected by default or nothing would work right.
Hope that helps.
Upshot: with Varnish and Mod_pagespeed (aka “GPS”), you should not need to run a caching plugin (in theory).

The developers recommend to use W3 Total Cache. Also, checkout the Pagespeed topic for some great tips from some other guys.
