I also do not see that above setting in any of my pages, so I’m assuming nothing got moved over from the demo install, Im using the SAY WHAT theme. (crunk.us as you can see the issue)

Update: I’m getting the following error:

tagDiv importer detected an error. The importer will try to recover and continue to install the demo after you click ok on this dialog.

Steps to troubleshoot:
– Check the permissions on your upload folder (file permissions appear to be ok)
– Please make sure that WP_DEBUG is set to false in wp-config.php (it is)
– Contact our support via email contact@tagdiv.com (please provide your product license key)

Critical CSS is the “needed CSS” to render the above the fold content. Which might only be 20% of the CSS loaded for entire page, but when loaded inline with every page the page itself is a little bigger, but the browser doesn’t need to wait for ANY of the css and js files. This is the only way I’ve found to fully eliminate the “render blocking” message from Pagespeed Insights.

While the SpeedBooster plugin does pretty good job of moving stuff to footer (and I presume you know how to look at your page source to see if that actually happened, and WHAT is being loaded in the header), as I stated in many cases with WP, you cannot just move everything to the footer as then nothing actually loads until you get there.

TagDiv are doing a “sort of” version of this by front loading some of the CSS, and then moving the stuff to footer; but if you still get the message then it means this “scheme” didn’t quite work, and not really their fault — it will NOT work for everyone; even if they can do it with some (ahem, not all) of their demos.

Go test their demo post for example, see what happens 😉

So, the trick is to use a custom css “critical css generator” that scans your post and then figure out WHAT needs to load first “critical” in the sense it’s needed to load the page BEFORE all the css/js crap in the footer.

For this example “critical” would be defined as :

critical

having a decisive importance in the success or failure of something.

So … TagDiv might want to — and will — weigh in as part of their lovely support effort, but you should concentrate on ALL OTHER pagespeed elements, and leave that one thing for last. Or it will drive you insane until you just learn how to get the “critical CSS’ added to the header.php file right above the body tag. Seriously. Been there. 🙂

I managed to update the path in the CSS that was causing that error. Now, however I’m still left with a broken padlock. Something inside the theme is breaking the padlock as illustrated by the section “Secure Calls made to other websites”:

demo.tagdiv.com returns some sort of error) when visitors go to my webpage. My SSL is installed correctly and HTTPS is configured so I know it has nothing to do with either of those two. Do you know why I would see the padlock on the admin dashboard (i.e. logged in) but not when i’m browsing as a visitor (not logged in)?

I would really like to resolve this. I have a store on the site and consumer confidence is important to me.

Thanks for the reply: Maybe i didnt explain well so i will be more detailed. I like some of your demos, actually i am fond of them, so i decided to activate one of them with content. then i saw my page and got disappointed because i thought i would see only my posts or my categories with my posts. My site is a student information site so i have categories like scholarships, postgraduates, research etc. I want to have one of your demos as they are in appearance without any of your content but to have on the front page categories (and some latest posts) i chose.
I hope i explain well this time. How can i do this?

Thank you for the reply! Actually i want to know where i can change settings of a demo after i install it. Does it create automatically a new page and i customize it from there? Or where else? Because i installed it and i wanted to make changes to images, categories, posts etc!

Bogdan, note that disabling all plugins would also disable the cache plugin therefore cache would also not be involved in the problem. I was well aware of that fixed width, but how can you tell where it comes from? Also I consider that my system is unchanged for weeks now… only change was… applying the News Magazin Demo settings.

Still, I followed your last advice and I did this:

1) Turn off Jetpack

2) Clear all cache in my cache manager

3) Disable cache manager plugin

4) Try in a private browser window

And as before, the problem remains. I left it like this so you can see with your own eyes.
