Well, remember the “theme” is not slow with F Rating — your site/setup is. Two totally different things. You also need to test with adverts off.
You need to do all the stuff noted on GTmetrix for your setup, from time to live, to gzip, to regenerating your images with compression, limiting calls to outside sites as that all slows things down, if using avatar photos use a local gravatar plugin, make sure you have enough RAM allocated, try to avoid plugins that do popups or rolls downs, avoid large background images (anything over 40k will massively slow down a page), consider using web-safe fonts and NOT a bunch of Google fonts; don’t use child theme as it’s a redirect; make sure you’re using PHP 5.6 or higher with opcache turned on (5.4 is a dog and way out of date; 5.2/5.3 are obsolete and should not be used unless no other choice for old code — which doesn’t apply to WordPress). Stuff like that.
Don’t use the lazy load animation on your posts/pages – disable that ‘effect.’ Consider not using the extra modules like related/more from other, or story ‘more to read’ flyout.
Get a good baseline for streamlined site, good page score — then turn on bells and whistles, evaluate the performance hit, and make choices.
I just switched all my AdSense ads to text-only, as I got sick of the 20 stupid crappy image, cookies and poor optimization of Google’s 10 year old image serving system. Their own ad server doesn’t meet modern pagespeed requirements, so why use it?
For example: I just did an install here; starting speed with 78; regenerated all thumbs with a compression factor of 50; switched off Google fonts, and moved to text ads; speed went to 90 with ads ‘on’ ! All that stuff seriously adds up.
Not sure if any of that helps. I was early adopter of Newspaper, Newsmag, and WPion. So, kinda a dinosaur around here. You might find my ancient thread helpful in the documentation > tutorials > DIY > best of forums. Maybe not.
Anyway – I have a 90 score right now, with no caching plugin and have not yet compressed the main style.css or main .js files, which should gain couple of points right there.

Hello,
I already have 34 active plugins i don’t want more.
Also all my ads are responsive ads except the banner ads.
I will try your recommendations.
By the way on the post editor screen who is using the other sidebar?
Hello iamkingsleyf,
First of all, please keep in mind that if you keep replying you will only delay your answer because we answer from oldest to newest. Posting more and more replies will only move your post to the fresher ones and delay the answer further. For future optimal response time, please only post once and wait for the reply as we answer every message.
I have inspected your website and I saw that you are using a lot of Ads which are not supported by our theme and also, use a lot of untested plugins which a break the theme layout, sorry! In the bottom of your article pages, on mobile, you have some problems with your ad which does not come from our theme, sorry! As a quick fix, you can try using the code below and place it in Theme Panel -> Custom CSS area.
The code is ->
@media (max-width:767px){
.pc_block_inactive{
float:inherit!important;
}
}
The result -> https://www.screencast.com/t/L0dEZ9LT
Also, I saw that you are using the Google Adsense Link Units -> https://support.google.com/adsense/answer/15817?hl=en. Notice that our theme does not recognize these parameters, and if you want to achieve that format of Ads, you can try to use the AdRotate plugin. The theme only works using the Google Adsense ad codes: https://forum.tagdiv.com/ads/ … for another type of ads you can either use wp text widget or a plugin like Simple Ads Manager or AdRotate to render the code then use theme’s ad spots. There is no official tested ad plugins as we have our ad system. Adrotate works with our theme even though it’s not tested by us but by our users. It seems that your Google Units Ad cause some problems in the mobile version because it has a width fix.
Thanks for your understanding!
Hi,
for the first time I have some troubles with image uploads. I see that people have common troubles and the advice is to contact hosting page or change some system settings or whatever. I am talking about the media library.
1) I tryed to upload a JPEG (1920 x 1080, 2MB) and change it to PNG as well
“Sorry, this file type is not permitted for security reasons.”
funny thing is that If I screenshot this picture, I am able to upload this screenshot
2) Another error is with PNG files
“HTTP error”
My version of wordpress is 4.8 and the Newspaper theme is up to date as well. I just moved to a new hosting with new domain but I dont use more plugins then before.
I am not sure where is the problem, should I contact my hosting page?
Hello IRC77,
Do you want to create your own ads? Please check our documentation here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/using-other-ads-non-adsense-ads/ because there you will found all the required steps which are needed to follow in order to create your personal ads.
Thanks for your understanding!
OK, got it. I still don’t understand why you replaced an established builder with over 2 million users with something you apparently spent a lot of time creating yourself, which meant you could not spend as much time adding features to the theme itself, like enabling the controlling of ads by category or any of the other things paid users have been asking for. No one really needed or wanted a new builder and there are plenty of other builders out there besides VC that are far more capable than the builder you guys have created. One of the things about this theme that I always liked was the fact that it DID integrate with VC quite well, which also allows us access to the hundreds of free and paid VC add-ons available out there. I feel that you have not taken into account that even though we users are a newspaper or magazine, and many pages of our sites are used to present groups of articles, article loops, individual posts, etc. there are many other aspects of a publication that have nothing to do with “news” content (about us, customer service info, submitting news/ads, historical info, etc. etc.) Now we are stuck with a limited builder that does not have the power of VC and cannot be extended, and that breaks the theme upon upgrading. I had been hoping that at least some of the features users had been asking for would be part of the 8 upgrade but it turns out there are no new features ;-( It seems like you guys have taken what, at least according to my research, was by far the BEST newspaper/magazine theme out there and you’ve actually limited its capabilities and functionality for the sake of implementing a more customized builder. Having the builder work on the front end is nice, but there was nothing WRONG with the combination of v. 7 and VC at all. You have removed a great deal of functionality in terms of the builder component of this theme, and given back almost nothing to the users. I wish you would reconsider this, and allow the theme to work as before with VC OR with your new builder and give us the option to choose one or the other, or forget about the new composer and instead work on adding truly useful new features to the next version.
I wonder how to implement ad code / snippets from Google DFP (Double Click for Publishers) into my Newspaper Theme using the Theme Panel->ADS. DFP is a powerful web server used for serving ads to end users. It is especially useful for tailoring by geolocation and other demographics.
A Google DFP tag is not a single tag as it is on AdSense. It has a header tag and a tag for the ad unit. The header tag contains information about the loaded ads, including their unique IDs, information that we will need in this tutorial.
In order to set up DFP, we need at least two ad units. The first is for the header tag and the second for each ad.
Is there an easy way to use DFP with the Newspaper-Theme?
Hi,
At the moment there is no option for in-feed ads in the theme. It could only be done by modifying the theme files, but that may not be so easy.
Another way that you could try, would be to search for an ad inserting plugin that might have an option for this.
I could not make any recommendations, since we have not made any tests in this matter.
Thanks
yep…. I usually recommend testing page speed with ‘ads off’ — as this tells you what your actual baseline is, and then you can decide how much you want to wreck with ads and other external junk. 🙂
I am literally in another browser tab right now changing my adsense ads from text+images to “text only” to see if that helps at all. Sheesh. Turned on 2 ad spots just now and went from 90+ to 78 .. and went WTF??? 25 little bits of crap from ad units, graphics, pixels, blah blah. Hideous. Google needs to clean house on their ad units other than text, as it’s just awful — up to 20 point hit now running two banner ads from AdSense. Insane!!!! #WAHH
Most of it should be, assuming you’re running Apache/Linux. Note that the nice formatting of my code got kind of whacked when they moved to the new forum template…. soo.. might not be super readible/legible.
Kind of multiple threads going in my old mega thread — so, perhaps useful to work ‘backwards’ ?
a) some basic wp-config cleanups (add direct paths, memory change, image compression)
aa) htaccess stuff for common time to live, file type, redirect xmlrpc queries, etc.
b) some basic functions.php stuff to clean needless stuff in header of WP pages, remove stuff like XMLRPC stuff, some security stuff; remove ‘?’ queries on stuff (versioning);
c) optimize style.css with minifcation; compress main .js file per Google tool
d) consider moving to web-safe font stack and not loading ANY google fonts; have to hack out section in the main them booster function file, then search/replace the ‘font-family’ elements in the style.css (easier prior to minification, obviously)
e) put custom CSS bottom of style.css vs theme panel
advanced stuff included – un-enqueueing the main style.css, loading in footer; after generating “critical CSS’ with the critical CSS generator online; putting above the fold CSS in header.php (only way to remove render blocking css) ** not needed if moving to http/2 platform.
Super advanced peeps might choose to use mod-pagespeed, https, php 7, and http/2.
So, basically.. kind of a “test your speed,” (with *no* ads running); then make some mods; then retest couple of times, etc., rinse repeat.
I’m no longer using Newspaper – moved to NewsMag 3x last year entirely. Not yet on 4x. But also using TagDiv’s WPION thing as a beta test. (actually re-rendering thumbs for one test of that right now in other browser tab!).
Soooooooo….. basic Apache stuff, and WP-config.php stuff, and common sense thing for functions.php that do specific things — all useful. Good to research WHAT things do before using them.

as a consequence of upgrading to 8 and the subsequent image thumbnail regeneration of all new image sizes, the number of files in my uploads folder went through the roof and pushed me to the limit of my host allowance.
there are one or two plug ins trying to do that job, but reality is that if you are on the type of hosting where that file number is an issue, you probably won’t have the resources to run them. very buggy anyway looking at reviews.
i found a very useful and relatively straightforward method of deleting all of the old and no longer needed image thumbnails, in my case about 60,000, using ftp – sound advice from a hard core tech at cPanel.
I would be happy to write a ‘how to’ post the benefit of other users in the same boat – but do you allow that sort of thing? a guide written by a user?
Hi,
I am sorry but I do not see any attachment in your post. Please provide a link to your website so we can inspect the issue.
The header ad should be displayed if the ad code is valid, and it displays in other sections properly

Thanks
Hi, Bogdan, thanks for your reply and the concern about the various other cases that can come afterward.
But as you said, there are a lot of things to consider to make these fully compatible. I currently am not looking for the full solution.
I only want to make it work for the single template that I use by default for most of my posts ( no smart lists, isolated templates etc. )
You have written above that:
…. and then the other one grabbed for the next post.
In case you are confusing this infinite scrolling with Auto load next post thing, the both things are totally different. We have discussed separately about auto load next post thing here- https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/need-little-help-with-most-demanded-auto-load-next-post-thing/ but this is a sperate case.
And I noticed that you guys have already helped a lot to make us be able to use the infinite scroll here- https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/implement-infinite-scroll-on-single-posts/
Everything is working already. You just need to help us stop ‘smart sidebar’ once the ‘Visual composer’ based tag for ‘infinite loading’ starts.
One look at the code of http://darnkid.com/illustrations-show-the-unique-bond-between-dads-and-daughters/ or http://www.storypick.com/success-is-the-best-revenge/ ( both using infinite scrolling with TagDiv Newspaper theme along with proper use of smart sidebar) may solve this issue.
If you don’t want to help, I will surely hire someone to do so, but since you guys have already done a lot about this ( https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/implement-infinite-scroll-on-single-posts/ ), I don’t see much point to hire someone else for just one simple ( or may be not?) part of it.
So, please reconsider this post.
PS: Has Probably Andrei L. left the TagDiv team? He has worked a lot on this under this thread -https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/implement-infinite-scroll-on-single-posts/ .
Thank you.
Hello,
Sorry but we have not tested such ads in our mobile theme. This represents customization and it is not covered by the theme support. We suggest hiring a freelancer if you need help implementing specific ads other than the options already provided in the theme panel.
Thank you for your understanding.
ThanX for tutorial.
Only slow loading – Adsense Ad Google and Revolution Slider
Other Ads not loading how java script… How to fix?
Hi guys,
I was wondering what happened. I installed the new theme update but now the side bar in my posts has dissapeared. What happened? How do I fix this? the side bar had my adsens adds, social counter and another widget, am I supposed to go and build all that again from scratch?
Hello vasik,
Try to disable all of the untested plugins, leave just to active only of our required plugins and which comes bundled with the theme, clear all the caches, purge all CDN files and check the results. Notice that our theme has been fully tested with using other ads and should work as expected.
Thanks for your understanding!
Hi,
The category pages and posts cannot be edited with tagDiv composer. This is a page editor, and it will only work on pages
– https://forum.tagdiv.com/tagdiv-composer-tutorial/
The category pages can only be customized in the theme panel
– https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-category-settings-work/
In the post pages, you can set article ads in the post content
– https://forum.tagdiv.com/article-ads/
You can also place ads in the sidebars
– https://forum.tagdiv.com/sidebar-ads/
Anything else will probably require to modify the theme files, or use plugins that have this options to insert ads in other places then the available ones. You could search the forum for similar topics and suggestions. Like this one for example
– https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/how-to-add-or-created-ad-block-in-category-page/
Thanks
Having a problem with the custom ads that doesn’t make sense.
Created a Custom Sidebar. Added the [tagDiv] Ad Box widget. Used the default Sidebar adspot and it worked fine. But only 1 of the custom sidebar ads work. 1, 2, 3 and 5 do not load. custom_ad_4 however does load.
The settings for all 4 custom ads, and the sidebar ad are identical. The code in all of them is identical. But only Sidebar and Custom_ad_4 work. The others simply do not display the widget at all.
This is what is displayed using custom_ad_1 (and 2, 3 and 5). There should be an ad between “ACO Series” and the top block.
https://preview.ibb.co/fSP7Za/broken.png
This is what is displayed using custom_ad_4. The ad displays correctly.
https://preview.ibb.co/naSSZa/working.png
The code used in the ad slots is identical and even use the same image. The Ad Box widget has no settings changed. What is going wrong? I don’t understand how the same code in every ad slot ends up with only 1 working. This code looks ok to use?
Dear,
I categorized my posts, which parent category is Saving health and one of the sub-category is Healthy life
However, on the front page, a post under sub-category- Healthy life (The post on the right) shows Healthy life in its black tab, while others posts which also under Saving health show Saving health in the black tab.
You may refer to this:

How can I fix this issue? Many thanks!
Hi,
I can’t say for sure. it could be your ad network not delivering the ads on each load. The theme will render an ad if it;s delivered 100% of the time. Try to insert a banner ad anon ad network ad to test the ad system: https://forum.tagdiv.com/using-other-ads-non-adsense-ads/
You can try to implement your ads through an ad plugin and see if the theme ad system is the one causing problems or not.
Thank you!
Hi,
You could create another page and don’t use ads on it (page content). But it depends on which ads you are talking about. A header ad for example will display on the whole website, it cannot be removed on a specific page. You could try an ad management plugin, that has the option to choose where the ads will display.
Some users here on the forum are using the Adrotate plugin, with good results i this matter.
Thanks
In a blog post I wish to have an image which, on a mouse click displays a larger version of the image. All standard stuff so far. The issue is that when I click on the smaller image an error appears in the modal image viewer instead of the larger image. The error is ‘The image #1 could not be loaded’, however if I click the ‘>’ (next image) arrow it loads the correct image at the correct size.
I have tried the following:
I have followed the tutorial about using Modal Image to the letter with Modal Image switched on and off on the specific image settings.
I have also tried with General Modal Image switched on and off in the theme settings.
This is a recent installation (Saturday) of the latest version of WordPress and I am only running the theme plugins.
The image that is supposed to load on click is the same image that is displayed smaller in the post. The URL for the image was populated automatically when I selected Media File and is correct.
With any combination of the two Modal Image options I get the same result ‘The image #1 could not be loaded’. It seems as though the theme is trying to load another image before the one that I specified but it can’t be found.
During the weekend I searched the forum for this error and it seems that a number of users are experiencing it. So far I haven’t been able to find one that includes a solution. Being able to add an image that can be enlarged within a page or post seems to be one of the most primary requirements of any theme so I am hoping someone will be able to help me with a solution.
Many thanks.
Hello,
Please use another ad size than 696 for content ads. The content width is only 630 px if you use a sidebar. The ads will fall back to other siezs if the container is not big enough to fit 696 px.
Either remove the sidebars on the posts where you want the ad or use a size smaller than 640 px.
Thanks.
Hi,
Sorry but we have not tested the google text ads. Are you experiencing this issue exclusively with the ads or are other parts of your site affected? Please provide a link to your site.
Thanks.
