Newspaper 6 is a whole new theme so an update from 4 to 6 may cause the same issues as switching to another theme (but we did try to maintain compatibility where ever possible).
Always make a full backup of your current installation – https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups and then do a clean update, meaning that we recommend that you delete the old version of the theme before uploading the new one – https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/ update also the plugins that come with the theme files from the /plugins folder. In the “how to update” guide is specified that you will have to run the script that will import from database your settings.
The shortcodes have been changed so old ones will not work anymore. Please note that old files customization or custom css will not work with the new version and you will have to adjust or re-add them.
Bottom line is that newspaper 6 is a whole new theme built from scratch.

The point of a child theme is to keep the customization even if the main theme it’s updated. But this is not always valid, because once in a while the child theme it’s also updated, or if the main theme pass through a major update it’s possible that some customizations not work well anymore. If you use child theme for files customizations it’s a good practice to check update_log.txt file for each update and see what files had been modified so if those specific files are used in the child theme you will have to check your customizations to not break the functionality of the theme.

Did you update the speed booster plugin if using it, and the visual composer plugin also ? Did you update the social plugin ? New theme often includes new version of plugin(s) also. Which you can see by looking at the “changelog” included with each update zip file.

Did you also update to WP 4.4 ?

Try turning off all plugins except Visual Composer?

There really is no permanent solution unless you block Google from accessing your site during updates, as this happens during the update process.

In other words, nothing on your site normally links to that location, and it’s NOT part of your XML sitemap. So, it doesn’t hurt to have that temporary 404 error.

In my case I mark as fixed, then I don’t see it again for 6 months.

If you are getting the error “all the time” — that’s not normal.

However you do not want a readable page at the /newspaper/ location — as that is not a public part of the site. You can try to create a hack on your site to give a different kind of error like “not authorized” (e.g., “401 error”).

Anyway — just some food for thought. Not a theme related issue, so you might want to google it.

rel=canonical is good to have on every page/post — it identifies which URL is the actual one and is useful in various things used by Google.

We have not updated to the 3x version of Yoast being happy with the 2x branch. This seems to be a common refrain from the many users this month.

You cannot “irritate” Google with having a canonical tag on every page of your site; they expressly recommend doing this site wide. It also helps with pagination for archives, and with other pages on the web with similar headlines for the bot to better identify the right thread for what site, and various other things separate from the XML sitemap(s).

If you’re new to all of this Google has a huge repository of “official” wisdom, policies, and examples so you don’t need to rely on hearsay, junk WP article sites setup to sell affiliate links, or comments on forums (ahem).

Just ignore it. Mark it as fixed and move on with your life.

This happens sometimes during site updates if Google “reads” the links to certain things and WP redirects to a location it shouldn’t. Very common with theme updates and WP updates during the shift in and out of “maintenance mode.”

Did you clear all your caching? (if using any caching plugins you must always clear caching before/after major updates). Did you try resaving the home page modules to clear transients? Clear your browser caching? These are most common causes. If you’re using any plugins like Jetpack’s image optimizer (Photon), try turning that OFF. If you’re using any other plugin that changes content on the fly (such as a “rocket” plugin orservice, you need to cleasr/reset that for new updates).

Update: Continues to happen with no plugins activated. Although someone posted similar problem with yoast seo plugin and someone replied

Yoast SEO plugin will use get_the_excerpt as og:description and it’ll output it by default.

my solution is disable the get_the_excerpt in that particular page.

Maybe your template does the same thing? I don’t know, just wish it would stop generating multiple pages, i.e. /contact-us/page/3/, /contact-us/page/4/, /contact-us/page/5/ etc

Let’s see:

1. Js errors. Yes I had some errors with that, actually a lot, but I arrange it. The problem was on child theme (functions.php). Now all events with js seems to work properly.

2. I disabled all plugins except Visual Composer at first, and also updated theme to last version. Suddenly WordPress works great, so I started to enable plugins one by one and check if they cause some problems. Everything right (I didn’t enable WP-Rocket). I guessed problem was on there, but a couple hours late a new error 500 appeared on my screen.

I tell that because webpage works good during a couple of hours until crash again, maybe is a good hint for you to find out what’s happening on it.

3. I just followed your tutorial (except suhosin because my hosting doesn’t provide it). Let’s see how it works now, just after the changes have been made, web charges like lightning.

I hope this works fine, if it doesn’t, I would like share a couple of screencaptures with you because maybe some parameters on htacces o php.ini are causing the problem. For instance, php.ini had “memory_limit = 1024M

Its really slow xD. You server hosting its getting problem whit smooth scroll. Go to theme panel + template settings + smooth scroll and turn off this function.

The latest versión its 6.6.2 and you are using 6.2 (June 22th, 2015) . I recommend you update to latest version, there are alredy so many fixes in latest version

I wanted to reply to this question of showing multiple taxonomy for custom post type as ‘tag_spot_taxonomy’ and ‘category_spot_taxonomy.

you can do this by:

1/modifying this file (child theme does NOT work):
Newspaper/includes/wp_booster/wp-admin/panel/views/ajax_boxes/td_panel_cpt_taxonomy/td_get_cpt_settings_by_post_type.php
search for ‘tds_category_spot_taxonomy’ and for ‘tds_tag_spot_taxonomy’
at each location change ‘td_panel_generator::dropdown’ to ‘td_panel_generator::input’
This will allow you to list your taxonomy slug in the theme page/cpt&tax/ for your CPT

2/ modifying this file (you CAN copy it in your child theme):
/newspaper/includes/wp_booster/td_module_single_base.php

replace line 185
$category_spot_taxonomy = td_util::get_ctp_option($this->post->post_type, ‘tds_category_spot_taxonomy’);
by this

Too bad Tagdiv td_panel_generator function doesn’t offer an option to create radio selection with multiple choices, that woudl have been really clean !!!

Be sure to change your password for superuser account if not already done.

You should ideally replace all plugins, clean install of WordPress, clean install of theme, etc. to be safe.

Do updates via FTP and not the Envato toolkit.

Have your host do a security scan for any rootkit — remove any plugins you don’t recognize; check your htaccess for any malicious code.

Read those 3 links suggested in detail to be safe.

Only you can repair/correct/salvage your website — it’s not theme specific. While folks here can give advice, only you can clean up, repair and then properly secure your WP install.
