Hello,
The layout was not meant to show as you use it. In the latest update a few codes were changed regarding the layout but it will not affect it in any way if you use visual composer as intended. Please read this guide and only use the 3 column layout as we recommend: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-use-visual-composer/
Our theme elements were not tested on other layout options.
Thank you!
Hello KEN SONODA,
Please ensure that you are using the latest version of the theme (Newspaper 7.4) with the most recent version of required plugins (Visual Composer 4.12.1 and Social Counter 4.1). Also, make sure that you have fully updated the theme via FTP way because this is the most precise method in this regard. For more information about this, please consult the documentation here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/install-via-ftp/ and here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/installing-demos/
Also, if your problem is still there, please try to make a new clean install from scratch with the latest version of the theme, purge CDN files you are using the CDN system, clear all your caches and check the results.
Hope this helps!
Thanks for the message!
Hello football5,
First of all, please make sure you meet the requirements for newspaper: https://forum.tagdiv.com/requirements-for-newspaper/ and increase your system status parameters according to this guide: https://forum.tagdiv.com/system-status-parameters-guide/
Also, if you are using the Visual Composer on posts, please try to disable it for this because the VC is not tested on posts, and you can encounter some delays because of this. Clear all your caches and test it again.
Thanks for your understanding!
My paper publishes a digital edition using Blue Toad Publishing. My boss has required me to build a website and the iframe code for our digital version MUST be prominent on the front page, preferably as a widget in the sidebar. I have chosen this theme, but I cannot get the iframe code to work. I have spent over two weeks on this problem. I have increased the memory limit of WordPress and PHP, and have tried half a dozen different plugins and modifications to code, but nothing works.
However, someone running WordPress with a different theme was able to get the code to work, so I suspect the theme has something to do with it.
This is the code I am trying to use:
<iframe width='180' height='180' src='http://www.bluetoad.com/flippingGen.php?i=349550&m=4311&ttype=standarddynamic&popup=true&h=hosts&lim=&remToolbars=true&roll=' noresize='noresize' frameborder='0' border='0' cellspacing='0' scrolling='no' marginwidth='0' marginheight='0' allowtransparency='yes'></iframe>
I have tried it in a post, in WordPress’ normal sidebar, in Visual Composer’s sidebar, using plugins like Iframely, using embed shortcode, to no success. I will supply any additional information as needed. I am using Bluehost, and when I contacted their help, they did not think they were the problem and encouraged me to increase my PHP memory limit, which I did.
So, on the home page you can add your own text boxes with content … theme cannot invent content for you.
So, in our case, for example we have a text box with h1 tag which is short description of what the site is about.
Above certain news sections we have h2 tags on sub-heads “Book Reviews”…
You don’t need <h3> tags on ‘headlines’ on front page as they are ephemeral and have no SEO value; only persistent elements.
SO, if you use Visual Composer or TD composer, simply experiment with adding your own content.
[slider———-][sidebar]
[text box with h1]
[block of stories]
[text box with h2]
Really up to YOU to decide how you want to lay out, design, and create your site content.
Good luck!
Hi
You can use the default page template for pages and the latest article list won’t be displayed anymore: http://screencast.com/t/LSCtGTxkwUx
You can use top bar 3 for layout: http://screencast.com/t/9qbbYUnC then use this css in theme panel > custom code > custom css: http://screencast.com/t/d3ceP227f
.td-header-sp-top-menu {
float: none!important;
}
.menu-top-container{
float: right!important;
}
Please make sure that the parameters from system status have the values indicated here: https://forum.tagdiv.com/system-status-parameters-guide/ and also try to deactivate all plugins except Visual Composer, clear all caches then test the site again.
Let us know ho it goes.
Thanks!
Hello aliqayyum,
Please try to disable all the active plugins, leave just Visual Composer to active, clear all your caches and install only the plugins that come bundled with our theme and rule out any conflicting plugins. Clear all your caches, remove server caches (if you do not have any access to do it, request this task to the service provider).
For your second request, please notice that the speed of your website depends on how well your site is optimized. Please notice that this is not a simple task and if you do not have any experience in this regard you will do not bring good results for the theme. Also, notice that we have a speed optimization tutorial but this is addressed only to advanced users. So, if you follow the steps which are presented in this tutorial here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-make-the-site-faster/ you can increase the page speed loading and if you are not aware of the steps in this regard, please consider hiring a freelancer/developer to help you because the speed optimization services is not covered by our support policy, as you can read here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/support-policy-2/ Check our documentation here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/requirements-for-newspaper/ regarding on dedicated server to fit to our requirements.
Hope this helps!
Thanks for your understanding!
Hi
@LPnm you can’t use a sidebar created with Visual Composer in post content, that sidebar can be used only where Visual Composer is used. However you can create a new sidebar and add widgets in it from Appearance > Widgets: http://screencast.com/t/h4hoqCcpHa – http://screencast.com/t/xGi1IQptJwP7 After the sidebar is set you just need to choose it for each post where you want it displayed.
Thanks!
Hi
There we don’t use Revolution Slider plugin, we use theme’s homepage post block: http://screencast.com/t/MPgYqKYsJtNQ You can add this block in Visual Composer and the rezult will be similar with the one from our demo.
Thanks!
Hi
Please note that td-composer plugin is still in beta version and is possible to appear some issues with its functionality. The plugin is mostly tested with Newspaper theme but it should also work with Newsmag. Try to use Visual Composer plugin which is included in theme’s patch and check how it goes. https://forum.tagdiv.com/newsmag-how-to-update-visual-composer-plugin/
Let us know how it goes and if the problem persist please send us an email at contact@tagdiv.com with your login credentials and we will inspect this issue as soon as possible, also include a link to this topic.
Thanks!
Hi,
Please provide more details about the theme version that you use. If you use a recent version then should be no issues with the update. Just please make sure that you make a full backup of you current install(wordpress and database) – https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups and then update the theme – https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/
After the update you can update also the Visual Composer plugin to the latest version provided with the theme package 4.12.1 – https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme-2/
The theme update should not affect the theme or wordpress settings, only if you have custom modifications to the theme files you will need to re-add them.
Thanks!
Hello,
This type of errors is usually caused by a javascript error. This in most cases is a plugin conflict. Please disable all plugins except visual composer, clear cache and reset cdn files. Then test again.
If this does not fix it, then please also check for any js optimization or custom code added in the child theme that can cause problems with our theme. Try to get the theme as close to the original as possible regarding customization (through code. theme panel settings do not count except for the custom code boxes)
Thank you!
Hi
The theme has been developed to be fast but it may still need configurations on this matters so test your site using google’s page speed insights testing tool(or gtmetrix) and try to follow the instructions indicated there to optimize the server. Also make sure that the parameters from system status have the values indicated in our documentation: https://forum.tagdiv.com/system-status-parameters-guide/ You can also try to deactivate all plugins except Visual Composer to reduce the queries and use mysql query cache to improve the loading speed: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.7/en/query-cache.html For more details about you can check our documentation in page-speed regard: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-make-the-site-faster/
Thanks!
Hello,
The sticky sidebar does work on infinite scroll if you implement it correctly. Here is an example: http://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/homepage-infinite-scroll/ Even without the load more button, the sticky sidebar will work as expected. Please use this guide to implement it on pages: https://forum.tagdiv.com/smart-sidebar-2/
The smart sidebar will also not work if you have a plugin conflict affecting the theme js. Please also try to disable all plugins except visual composer, clear cache and reset cdn files.
Thank you!
” A possible solution would be to add support for Visual Composer in mobile theme but for the moment we don’t plan to add this feature as will defeat theme’s purpose”
70% of the internet is on mobile now. Even google is almost ready to go “Mobile first” for their ranking algorithm and everything. So, I can’t ignore mobile speed and optimization but at the same time, just because of speed, we are killing almost all other features that Newspaper has to offer. It’s so ironic that the whole documentation for Newspaper mobile theme can be written on just one full-length page but it’s been used 70-80% of the time ( in terms of traffic). Hence , we are doing everything for 20-30% traffic but not for the major portion 🙁
I also feel that just because now you have created a separate plugin for the mobile theme, psychologically , you might be putting less effort in making further mobile optimization in your parent theme. Since you might be thinking that you have already achieved 300-400% more optimization on mobile theme so, if someone needs speed, you have a ‘ ready answer’ to ask them to use “Mobile theme” . but that time, neither user, nor you think that in that case, the whole awesome “Newspaper” theme will become the simplest blog theme which has nothing to offer other than speed in terms functionality;
So, Please give enough time to mobile theme feature updates and then you can give an option to “enable and disable” visual composer for mobile theme.
In fact, for the main theme too, we should have the option to disable or enable “loading of extra codes” page. post or categories basis to optimize it fully. We are using hard-coded shortcodes and smart list options in our various posts, so, if we even think to change the theme in future, it is going to break the site. So, it’s highly unlikely that we are ever going to change the theme.
Therefore we have high hopes from TagDiv.
Thank you.

You should also tr to update your version of the plugin if you still want to use it. You can use this guide: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-visual-composer-plugin/
Thank you!
Hi
Mobile theme can’t be disabled only for a specific page, sorry. When is used it will affect or change the entire site. A possible solution would be to add support for Visual Composer in mobile theme but for the moment we don’t plan to add this feature as will defeat theme’s purpose. Mobile theme was intent to be fast and many feature were removed to increase the speed. For the moment the only way to use Visual Composer on mobile devices is by using the main theme.
Thanks!
Hi
Please make sure that you’re suing V 4.1 of Social Counter plugin which is included in theme’s patch and also make sure that you add your google plus user like here: http://screencast.com/t/Pzo4iKM5 Also try to deactivate all plugins except Visual Composer and Social Counter, clear all caches then test the site again.
Let us know ho it goes.
Thanks!
Hi
Try to deactivate all plugins except Visual Composer Composer, clear all caches then test the site again. Usually this issue occur because of Jetpack mobile theme module which conflicts with our theme so try to deactivate this module and check how it goes.
Thanks!
Hi,
After an Update the Visual Composer doesn’t work anymore.
I deactivated all plugins, still doesn’t work.
The pages where I use the VC there is this message:
Fatal error: Call to undefined function vc_map_get_attributes() in /homepages/35/d408646188/htdocs/wp-content/themes/Newsmag/vc_templates/vc_row.php on line 30
HP is http://www.fussball-geld.de
Can you help me?
Best Max
I love Mobile theme. It’s really fast. But here is the issue.
Apart from general daily use, sometimes I need to create a new page or post which needs visual composer functions.
Is there any way to disable or exclude “mobile theme plugins” for certain pages or posts ? Can’t we write some code which will make “mobile theme plugin” ineffective for certain pages or posts?
I know you might tell me to disable the mobile theme , but please try to understand that it is not a solution. Mobile theme makes websites really super fast but for certain pages, visual richness is more important than speed.
TagDiv is a strong team and all your themes are going to be used by us for long long time so. it’s really important to find solutions to these issues. If not now and then at least in the future updates.
Please give me some hope.
Hello,
I noticed when I go to edit the home page, the visual composer section where all my layout should be is blank. If I switch to the classic editor I see my code:
[vc_row el_position="first last"][vc_column][td_block_big_grid_2 td_grid_style="td-grid-style-4" category_id="23" sort="alphabetical_order"][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="2/3"][td_block_2 custom_title="LATEST NEWS" custom_url="http://www.chuckyeager.org/category/news/" category_id="14" limit="4" ajax_pagination="next_prev"][td_block_ad_box spot_id="custom_ad_1"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/3"][vc_widget_sidebar sidebar_id="td-demo-1"][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width="2/3"][td_block_2 custom_title="FEATURED" custom_url="http://www.chuckyeager.org/category/featured/" category_id="3" limit="4"][/vc_column][vc_column width="1/3"][td_block_7 custom_title="COCKPIT RECORDINGS" header_color="#2b2b2b" category_ids="18" limit="3" ajax_pagination="next_prev"][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][td_block_2 custom_title="VIDEO" custom_url="http://www.chuckyeager.org/category/video/" header_color="#82b440" category_id="17" limit="3" ajax_pagination="next_prev"][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][td_block_ad_box][td_block_4 custom_title="CLASSIFIED DOCUMENTS" category_id="19" limit="3" ajax_pagination="next_prev" show_child_cat="all"][td_block_homepage_full_1 category_id=”14″][/vc_column][/vc_row]
–The strange thing is the front end looks fine. I just cant edit it on the backend because I cant see it. i am using ver. 7.3 and the visual composer 4.9. Do I need to update to 7.4?
thank you.
HI
I am not sure why this happens but it could be an issue caused by some plugins. Try to deactivate all plugins excerpt Visual Composer, deactivate the child theme, clear all caches, purge the cdn if you’re using then test the site again.
Let us know ho it goes.
Thanks!
Hello,
Unfortunately you have very limited control over a post loop page. You can only change how it looks, but it will grab all of the content in a latest sorting order. if you want more control over your homepages, please create a static page and use visual composer to add content to it: https://forum.tagdiv.com/homepage-how-to-build-and-set-it/
Thank you!
Hi,
If you use a blog homepage you can only choose the layout for it from the theme panel: http://screencast.com/t/eVnaJCHjKlz You cannot customize this page in visual composer. Visual composer is only used on static pages. Here is a guide on how to customize a homepage: https://forum.tagdiv.com/homepage-how-to-build-and-set-it/
Thank you!
